‘The West Africa Rice Development Association (WARDA) is an autonomous intergovernmental research
association with a mission to strengthen West Africa's capability in rice production science, technology and
socio-economics through research, training and communications activities.
In collaboration with the national agricultural research systems of member states, academic institutions,
intemational donors and other organizations, the work of WARDA ultimately benefits West African farmers —
‘mostly small-scale producers -- who cultivate rice, as well as the millions of Aftican families who eat rice as a
staple food.
WARDA was formed in 1971 by 11 countries with the assistance of the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations and the Economic
‘Commission for Africa (ECA). It now comprises 17 member states: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad,
Céte d'ivoire, the Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal,
Sierra Leone and Togo.
The headquarters and main research facilities of WARDA are located in M’bé, near Bouaké, Céte d'tvoire.
Regional research centers in St-Louis, Senegal and Tbadan, Nigeria focus on Sahel irrigated rice and lowland
rice breeding, respectively,
WARDA is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), @
network of 16 international research centers supported by more than 50 public and private sector donors.
Current donors to WARDA are: the African Development Bank, Canada, Céte ¢'Ivoire, Denmark, the
European Union, France, the Gatsby Foundation, Germany, the International Development Research Centre, the
International Fund for Agricultural Development, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, the Rockefeller
Foundation, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the UNDP, the United States of America, the World Bank
and WARDA member states.

LiAssociation pour le développement de le riziculture en Afrique de YOuest (ADRAC) est une organisation
intergouvernementale de recherche ayant pour mandat de mettre en place et de développer une capacité ouest-
africaine dans les domaines de la science, de la technologie et des aspects socio-économiques de la production
rizicole, par le biais d’activités de recherche, de formation et de communications.
L’ADRAO, en collaboration avec les systémes nationaux de recherche agricole des Etats membres, des
institutions académiques, des donateurs internationaux et divers organismes, ménent des travaux de recherche
dont les retombées profitent aux agriculteurs africains -- en particulier aux petits exploitants -- qui cultivent du
riz et également aux millions de familles africaines povr qui le riz est la nourrture de base.
L'ADRAO a &té créée en 1971 par onze pays, sous le parrainage du Programme des Nations Unies pour le
‘développement (PNUD), de !Organisation des Nations Unies pour T'alimentation et Tagriculture (FAO), et de la
Commission économique pour l'Afrique (CEA). Elle regroupe aujourd'hui dix-sept pays membres = Bénin,
Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Céte dIvoire, Gambie, Ghana, Guinée, Guinée-Bissau, Libéria, Mali, Mauritanie,

Le sidge et centre principal de recherche de 'ADRAO est siué a Mbé, prés de Bouaké en Cote d'Ivoire. Les
stations régionales de recherche de St-Louis, Sénégal et d'Tbadan, Nigéria sont axées sur la riziculture iriguée
au Sahel et la sélection de riz pluvial, respectivement
LADRAO est membre du Groupe consultatif pour la recherche agricole internationale (GCRAD, un réseau
de 16 centres intermationaux de recherche agricoles soutenus par plus de 50 donateurs du secteur public et privé.
