Departing from traditional approaches to Research & Development, Aventis has created a new paradigm for organizing scientific work. We call it Drug Innovation and Approval, or DI&A. This global team of 5,600 colleagues performs what were once isolated, sequential R&D tasks in parallel. An innovative value network structure links highly focused project teams with top-notch technology groups and best-in-class external partners. Collaboration across departments and countries is the rule in a DI&A organization that seeks seamless connectivity as a daily goal. The non-traditional DI&A structure fosters innovation, enhances productivity and reduces cycle time. STRATEGIC SITES
Our strategic research sites do business in an entrepreneurial, biotech-like environment, focusing on finding new therapeutic solutions in their disease areas: Bridgewater, New Jersey Immunology platform Central nervous system Respiratory diseases Rheumatoid arthritis Frankfurt, Germany Cardiovascular diseases Metabolic diseases Osteoarthritis Paris, France Oncology Infectious diseases Alzheimers and Parkinsons diseases The strategic sites manage drug candidates in their disease states from discovery to phase IIa testing. By focusing on specific therapeutic areas, scientists in these groups are able to specialize but also tie into a global network of expertise and technologies.

Our Annual Incentive Plan provides cash awards that are among the highest in the pharmaceutical industry. Our intention is to use short-term incentives to drive and reward better-than-industry performance.
BASE SALARY
Stock options are offered to Aventis management around the world. A global discretionary stock option pool is available for other high-performing individuals.
Salary ranges are locally developed to be competitive in each country. The application of ranges to what each indivual is paid reflects the persons performance, skill, competency level and experience.
