A little city with a big heart Luxembourg is Europes bestkept secret. The capital of one of the worlds smallest countries is a vibrant, dynamic city nestled within romantic, peaceful countryside that gives it plenty of natural space to breathe. Luxembourgs visitors tend to focus on its rich history but todays city is a modern, open, friendly place that has embraced the opportunities of high-tech life without losing its soul. It is international people from 150 different countries now call it home where major global corporate names have come to take advantage of cutting-edge technological expertise. 21st century connectivity is even visible in the streets with the impressive HotCity WiFi network that brings together its residents, visitors, local businesses and the citys services. Luxembourg also hosts a number of EU institutions and more than 200 nancial institutions in its world-renowned banking and nance sector. It is also a capital with a very human dimension. From small caf bars to Michelin-starred restaurants, the city enjoys the best in gastronomy alongside a lively and diverse cultural scene including a number of
popular outdoor festivals throughout the year. Luxembourg has twice been honoured as European Capital of Culture and it buzzes with artistic creativity such as the music, dance and theatre performances at the Grand Thtre and the state-of-the-art Philharmonie. Luxembourgs multilingual character is reected in its variety of exciting stage productions in Luxembourgish, French, German, Dutch and English. The city also boats a number of museums highlighting art, history and nature while the vestiges of its ancient fortress, dating from the 9th century, still remain and are now protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Luxembourg is very much a city of contrasts: a city among green countryside, a high-tech centre amid centuries-old history, a truly international hub with a local traditional feel.

This extremely varied area, from the Nordstad (Diekirch, Ettelbruck) region of the Luxembourg Ardennes, also called Oesling, poses a rare challenge for nature lovers, mountain bikers, Nordic walkers and above all for ramblers. With ith its numerous wellsignposted local, national and international rambling paths, it can justifiably be called a true ramblers paradise.

Echternach, especially well-known for the Dancing Procession (UNESCO World Heritage), is the gate to the Mullerthal Region - Luxembourgs Little Switzerland. On the banks of the river Sre, Echternach forms the border with Germany and is the ideal place to start rambles in the area. Numerous foot- and walking paths lead to the surrounding woods with view points, waterfalls and rocks, like the famous Gorge du Loup and the Perekop. Echternach lies at the intersection of Routes 1+2 of the Mullerthal Trail, the newly created regional hiking circuit. The old patrician houses, the narrow streets and the ancient ramparts have helped Echternach to retain a remarkable medieval atmosphere. Crmant de Luxembourg Mondorf-les-Bains Schengen
Appealing, unrestricted and stress-free the Moselle valley stimulates the senses, connects people of different nationalities and enables you to switch off from everyday life. Most appealing of all are the vintage quality Moselle wines, best when accompanying fried fish in one of the renowned restaurants along the picturesque wine village route. The Romans saw it as a unrestricted region covered with vines, influenced by the meanderings of the Moselle. Here, with its inter-connecting bridges, you will find the birthplace of the Schengen area. Ambling stress-free along narrow paths and through narrow alleys, or discovering the Mosel area on a boat trip, is more relaxing than travelling on the beaten track.
Worth seeing
Wine and sparkling wine cellars, the exotic world of a buttery garden, the large aquarium in Wasserbillig, hiking paths in the wine mountains, the A Possen folklore museum in Bech-Kleinmacher or the wine museum in Ehnen, a trip on the luxury passenger boat MS Princesse Marie-Astrid or the new River Diva by Navitours - all these are amongst the highlights of the region. Swimming pools, walking paths, signposted Nordic-Walking slopes, water sports, mountainbiking, cycle paths, golf, the sporting activities on offer in the Moselle are varied. The attractions of the spa town of Mondorfles-Bains include thermal baths, a owered park and a casino.
Even 2000 years on, traces can be found of the Romans who planted the rst vines here. Guided walks and thematic trails supply information about history, nature and wine culture. Today, small medieval towns such as Remich and Grevenmacher characterise the region just as much as pretty villages with narrow streets and handsome winegrowers houses. The Haff Rimech nature reserve gives the landscape a particular aura.
Culinary
Sophisticated cuisine has a strong presence in the Luxembourg Moselle. Wine is included amongst the regional specialties, with nely coordinated menus of fried sh, pike or pikeperch to go with it.
Take a glance at the European Union history at the Schengen Europa Museum in the socalled Moselle village.
