The CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (CSIR-IGIB) invites applications from bright young individuals from diverse backgrounds with strong motivation and good academic credentials to pursue research in frontier areas of modern biology leading to a Ph.D degree. The broad interdisciplinary research areas are Biological and Chemical Sciences, Molecular Medicine and Disease Genomics, Environmental Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. OUR INSTITUTE IGIB, a premier research institute of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), is one of the leading knowledge providers in India in the area of genomics and genome informatics. IGIB is a confluence of motivated researchers from multidisciplinary areas working synergistically in modern integrative biology. IGIB has developed domain expertise in genomics and established extensive partnerships and collaborations with medical institutes and universities. IGIB is amongst the globally recognized research institutes in the area of genomics and new biology. WHO CAN APPLY 1. Masters' degree (M.Sc / M.Tech) with first class or equivalent grade in any branch of life sciences/ biotechnology, B.Tech candidates in biological sciences with first class may also apply. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for a written test followed by an interview (see below). 2. Students possessing first class in MBBS / B.Tech (non-biological sciences) / M.Tech (non-biological sciences) / M.Sc (chemistry, physics / mathematics / statistics / computer science or allied subjects) with special interest in biology can also apply. Shortlisted candidates will have to appear for an interview (see below). Upper age limit is 28 years as on January 17, 2012 (closing date) which is relaxable for SC/ST/OBC/physically handicapped persons as well as woman candidates as per Govt. of India rules in this regard. HOW TO APPLY Applications, available at the Institute website (www.igib.res.in; http://phd.igib.res.in; http://recruit.igib.res.in), have to be duly filled in and sent electronically on or before January 17, 2012. For any query please e-mail at phd@igib.res.in SELECTION PROCEDURE Candidates possessing degree in biological sciences (see 1 above) will be intimated by e-mail to appear for a written aptitude test of two hour duration on February 12, 2012 at any of the four test centers at Delhi, Pune, Kolkata or Bangalore. The written test will be aimed at evaluating abilities to comprehend, analyze and reason along with the aptitude of the candidate in biological sciences. The result of the written test will be declared on IGIB website on or before February 17, 2012. Successful candidates will have to appear for interviews and discussion at IGIB from June 11, 2012 - June 14, 2012. Selection of candidates for Ph.D program will be based on performance in aptitude test and interview. Shortlisted candidates possessing MBBS degree/degree in non-biological sciences (see 2 above) will be called directly for interviews and discussion to be held at IGIB from June 11, 2012 - June 14, 2012. The names of the successful candidates eligible to join IGIB Ph.D program will be declared on June 15, 2012. The selected candidates are required to join IGIB on or before August 1, 2012. Please note that successful M.Sc. candidates must hold CSIR-UGC (JRF) / DBT (JRF) / ICMR-JRF / DST-INSPIRE fellowship at the time of joining the Institute (fellowship certificate should be valid as on August 1, 2012 in all the cases. DBT and ICMR fellowship conditions should allow them to work under non-DBT and non-ICMR funded projects). No TA / DA will be paid at any stage of the selection process. The decision of the Admission Committee will be final and binding and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence will be treated as a disqualification. In case of eligible candidates with already activated JRF fellowships, the consent letter from appropriate authority is to be submitted to IGIB at the time of interview otherwise the candidature is liable to cancellation. Candidates should note that non-fulfillment of the eligibility criterion will result in cancellation of candidature at any stage of admission process.
