Liquefaction:
Before 2000, the main raw material used for ethanol production was cassava. From 2002, rice and corn have been used as raw materials to produce high quality Vodka, gaining major market share of domestic liquor of Vietnam. Liquefaction at Halico is a batch process. The entire process takes place in the same equipment, with the advantage of simple quality control and the disadvantages of high time and energy consumption (no steam utilization). Previously, sulfuric acid was added during liquefaction to adjust pH. However, stillage has replaced acid in adjusting pH for the last 2 years, resulting in improved yield and labour safety.
In the coming year, our new factory at Bac Ninh will come into operation with the continuous liquefaction process imported from India, resulting in yield increased to 80-90 tones rice powder/day. Superior compared to batch process, continuous liquefaction allows the utilization of secondary steam, shortened liquefaction time, thus reducing loss due to caramellization. More specially, the whole process is automatic.
Encouraging local companies to corporate with international enterprises in order to produce high quality liquor from local materials. Development of raw material supplying zones and cooperation with local farmers. In addition to the production of food-grade ethanol, accelerating the production of biofuels from agricultural wastes and by-products. Vietnam is an agricultural country with abundant plant wastes, especially in provinces where corn, potato, cassava, sugarcane, pineapple, etc. are planted. Development, production and application of biofuel is one of the approaches to energy saving and poverty reduction.
In conjunction with industrial development orientation, and the application of advanced technology and modern equipments, quality control system ISO 9001-2000 has been implemented since 2008 at Halico. The food safety control system based on ISO 22000-2005 is currently being applied, with the aim to generate our force in the attempt to become the biggest liquor producer in Vietnam.
Halico is planning to move to a new factory at Yen Phong industrial zone, Bac Ninh with the total surface area of 15 hectares and advanced equipments. Ethanol production is targeted to improve to 40,000 L/day and bottling line to 20,000 bottles/h
