Lakota Adventure Past & Present!

A Journey to the Home of the Oglala Lakota Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota

September 30th - October 6th (Sun-Sat), 2012 $1,350 plus travel expenses to South Dakota
Trees, Water & People (TWP) invites you on a truly amazing adventure, offering an in-depth look at our Tribal Renewable Energy Program headquarters and a personal experience of Lakota culture. Let us show you the beauty of the traditional Lakota lands, the struggles of its peoples past and present, and the awe-inspiring stories of those working toward solutions. Please bring your sense of adventure, humble respect, and flexibility on this one-of-a-kind trip. Dormitory-style lodging is provided at our training facility, the Red Cloud Renewable Energy Center (RCREC), Past Adventurers with Henry Red Cloud near the village of Pine Ridge, SD. You will also have the opportunity to spend one or more nights in a traditional tipi on the RCREC campus. All meals, lodging, and TWP-provided entertainment & activities, are included in the cost of your trip. Lakota Adventure 2012 Itinerary (Subject to Change)
Sunday (Day 1): Arrival -Travel to the Pine Ridge Reservation -Arrive at RCREC mid-afternoon -Meet TWP partner Henry Red Cloud and Red Cloud family -Campfire dinner and introductions Monday (Day 2): Problems and Problem Solvers -Orient to Pine Ridge Village - Meet people working to address some of the challenges faced on the reservation -Visit Red Cloud Museum and Wounded Knee Massacre Site -Campfire dinner with Lakota storyteller Tuesday (Day 3): Part of the Solution -Help install a solar air heater for a Pine Ridge family -Campfire dinner with traditional drumming and singing Wednesday (Day 4): Honoring Mother Earth -Day trip to the sacred Black Hills Thursday (Day 5): Cultural Preservation -See examples of efforts to preserve the Lakota culture Friday (Day 6): Red Cloud -Day volunteer project at RCREC -Visit Henrys buffalo pasture Saturday (Day 7): Departure -Travel home
