SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: Arrangements for baptisms are made by attending a preparation meeting. Parish registration is a prerequisite for attending the meeting. THE 2012 CATHOLIC MINISTRIES ANNUAL APPEAL IS UNDERWAY

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND (MARK 1:15)
The 2012 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal begins with a mailing that many of our parishioners have received or will soon receive. This is a mailing from Bishop Conlon asking for a pledge to the 2012 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal. The Appeal not only funds many of the operations of the diocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish. For example: Catholic Ministries, Campus Ministries, Catholic Schools Office, Center for Ministry Development, Hispanic Ministry, Life Office, New Evangelization and Lay Ministry, Peace and Social Justice, Permanent Diaconate, Religious Education, Seminary Education/Vocation Office, Young Adult Ministry and Youth Ministry. This year, the theme of the Appeal is "The Kingdom of God is at Hand." We are challenged as Catholics to build up God's kingdom here on earth. Your contribution to the CMAA enables the diocese to uphold the Gospel message and build up the kingdom of God throughout the seven-county area of the Joliet Diocese. Please remember that God never forgets us. Even when we believe that our successes are self made, it is the blessings that God has given to each of us that have helped us to get where we are. Lord God, You alone are the source of every good gift, of the vast array of our universe, and the mystery of each human life. We praise you and we thank you for your great power and your tender, faithful love. As we reflect upon our generosity back to the Lord in 2011, the parish pastoral council finance committee and staff ask you to reflect upon what you can share in 2012. We just focused on our weekly giving. Thank you to all who returned their commitment card. Remember the years we had to climb the hill to enter our church, the flooding of our parking lot, small narthex and one small meeting room, less entrances/exits to the streets. It is our hope and prayer that we can accelerate our giving to the mortgage. Those parishioners who have given over the years have kept the momentum going. We need new givers to come forward and others to give an added boost. Please bring this to prayer and respond from your heart.

What is Christian Stewardship? Reflections from our Finance council

The American Heritage Dictionary defines a steward as: "One who manages anothers property, finances, or other affairs..." Christian stewards recognize that all we have - our relationships, our talents, our resources, our entire lives - have been given to us by our loving Father. It is our responsibility and our delight as His children to administer those gifts according to His will and for His glory. The U.S. Bishops in their pastoral letter Stewardship: A Disciples Response wrote: "Becoming a disciple of Jesus Christ leads naturally to the practice of stewardship. These linked realities; discipleship and stewardship, then make up the fabric of a Christian life in which each day is lived in an intimate, personal relationship with the Lord." (p. 14) The gifts that God our Father has poured out on us are many and varied. Here are just three major categories of gifts: > Our Time. St. Clare of Assisis last words were, "Blessed be Thou, my God, for having created me." She recognized that her very existence was a gift from God. To be good stewards of this precious gift, we must regularly take time to be with God in prayer and with our family and loved ones. > Our Talents. We are sometimes tempted to think that we have no talents, that talents are reserved for the "gifted." But God our Father has given all His children talents. To be good stewards of our talents, we must ask Him to help us identify our talents and then use them for the purposes for which He has given them to us. > Our Treasure. Our money and other resources have been given to us by God to provide for our needs and the needs of others. To be good stewards of our treasure, we must be both prudent and generous, giving to others, not out of guilt or fear, but out of gratitude to God for His generosity to us.

Center For Family Ministry Joliet Diocese Helps Others to Heal and Grow in Faith, through Catholic Ministries Appeal
The mission of the Diocesan Center for Family Ministry Office is to make family a more important part of church. With that in mind, the office offers a variety of programs to help assist families. The office offers help, which include the following: training parish staff and volunteers to prepare couples for their marriages; offering Catholic Engaged Encounter weekend programs and Natural Family Planning classes; working to enrich marriages though parish programs, anniversary events; supporting groups, such as Marriage Encounter and the Retrovaille program, for troubled marriages; assisting in baptism preparation; helping hurting and healing families, which means helping those who are divorced, through support groups, conferences, annulment support ministry, and programs for the children of divorcing parents; and helping those grieving through a bereavement ministry, whether through training parish personnel, offering group facilitator training, sponsoring the Joyful Again! weekend for widows or offering the Tree of Light Mass each year for those who have lost a baby either before or after birth. All of these kinds of programs are supported by the Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal. Please be generous to the Bishops invitation.

CHRIST THE KING PANCAKE BREAKFAST

The Knights of Columbus will be hosting the parish's annual Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, February 12, in the PLC. Breakfast will be served from 7:30AM until noon. Of course, the Knights are serving more than just pancakes. The menu will include, pancakes, sausage, scrambles eggs, juice, coffee and a sweets table. Tickets can be purchased in advance after all the masses on the weekend of Feb. 4 & 5. Prices are: $6.00 for adults, $5.00 for seniors, $4.00 for children and $20.00 for families of two adults and two or more children. Tickets can be purchased at the door, the day of the breakfast for $1.00 more per ticket. The Knights will also be cooking made-to-order omelets which can be ordered the day of the breakfast for an additional $2.00 per omelet. There will also be another special offering at the breakfast, but you will have to stop by to find out what the Knights are cooking up.

SUPPORT FOR ANNULMENT PETITIONERS:

To help petitioners complete the process of seeking an annulment, a day of Support for Annulment Petitioners is being offered. The day is designed for divorced persons who have petitioned the Diocesan Marriage Tribunal to begin the annulment process, have submitted basic data for introduction of their case, but have not yet completed the Marriage Summary Questionnaire. Catholics and non Catholics are welcome to attend. The day will include a time of prayer, time for questions and input regarding annulments and the relational issues dealt with in the questionnaire. A team of pastoral ministers will be available for private consultation. St. Joseph Table - Sunday March 18

Christ the King St. Joseph Table will be held in the school gymnasium on Sunday, March 18, at 1:00 P.M. Wont you please come? You will have a great meatless meal and help people in need at the same time. The recipient for this years Table will be Catholic Charities in Lombard. The Committee would like to start collecting items for the raffle baskets. If you have anything youd like to donate a bottle of wine, gift cards to your favorite restaurant, new holiday items, etc. - we would greatly appreciate receiving them. We could also use more large baskets, wired ribbon for bows and filler. We are in need of volunteers. 6 - Weeks During Lent

Living the Eucharist is a parish renewal program that will be offered to all parishioners this Lent season. Small groups will gather weekly for 6 weeks during the Lenten season. There is something for adults, teens and families. The weekly gathering will be 90 minute session reflecting on the Sunday readings and other topics each week. There will be a Living the Eucharist retreat on April 28, 2012.
Benefits of the Program: Greater appreciation and understanding of preparing for and participating in Sunday Mass Deeper, more intentional engagement in Sunday Mass, and, by extension, in parish life Keener awareness of living as a disciple of Jesus and building up the Kingdom of God A stronger, more Eucharist-based Catholic identity among participants A greater sense of community among participants.

Today is Sign-Up Sunday for Living the Eucharist. For the six weeks of Lent, we invite you to join a small group, a teen group, and/or participate with your family. We also invite you to order a copy of the Lenten devotional booklet, From Exodus to Easter: My Daily Journey Through Lent. Please register in the Narthex. Lector Workshop Saturday Feb 11th 9am-Noon

There is a mandatory Lector workshop for all present Lectors. This is a time of renewal for 2012, this fulfills your requirement for yearly continuing education of Lectors. This will be a way to prayerfully and practically ease our way into the Lenten Season! Bill and I would like to thank the lectors for all the time of preparation, they put into rehearsing for their proclamation, reflecting upon its meaning and joyfully proclaiming Gods love for us, through the Scripture. Prospective and interested teens and adults are welcome to attend.

Leadership Meeting
The next meeting of the Christ the King Leadership will be on Tuesday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the Early Learning Academy. The Strategic Plan theme that will be discussed is Effective Parish Finance. A brief presentation will be made by Rick Cosenza, Chairman of the Finance Committee before the commission meetings. World Day of the Sick Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes

In recent years there has been a different emphasis on the Sacrament of the Sick. Even the change in the name of the Sacrament signals a new understanding. The old name, Extreme Unction often made the sacrament seem like a deathbed experience in preparation for the next life. The new name, Sacrament of the Sick tries to convey the real purpose of the sacrament: to confer special grace on the Christian experiencing the difficulties that accompany serious sickness or old age. In the past the sacrament was administered almost always in private (home or hospital). Although that is often still the case, parish celebrations of the sacrament have become common practice. This helps to underscore the fact that we are all involved in this sacramental action of Christ. It can also be a reminder to us that our sick brothers and sisters participate in a special way in the redemptive sufferings of Christ. As we were taught, every sacrament combines the action of Christ and the action of the community. We come together to pray, certainly for our sick and infirm brothers and sisters, but also for all those in our parish family in need of Gods healing.

We need your enthusiasm, natural energy and idealism! The role of young people in the Church is to show others that we are a living Church, alive and well, and ready to serve.
