Bring a friend or a sweetheartafter all its Valentines Day. The benefits of being a member start with networking and building relationships at our monthly meetings. Add a healthy dose of all the things we do in Indianapolis to promote the growth of affordable housing, along with strong commitments in Washington and you have a GREAT organization. But, it all starts with you! This month we will be honoring Four County Vocational with a Scholarship Certificate. This provides them with a one year membership to NAHB, IBA and BANI. Come hear the details of how this great educational tool is working. Speaking of tools, our Member of the Month will be selected again this month, but only from the meeting participants! Attend the monthly meetings and increase your chances to be highlighted in our Monthly Newsletter. If you havent been to the website recently, check it out! Member of the Month
BANI began a new page in our Newsletter for February, its called our Member of the Month. We will spotlight a BANI Member every month in our Newsletter. The Member chosen will have an entire page of our Newsletter to promote their company! To be eligible for Member of the Month, you must attend a Membership Meeting. At the end of each meeting, we will draw a name from all who were in attendance for that month. The name we draw will be in the Newsletter for the following month. The names are drawn each month and do not carry over to the next month, so the more you attend the meetings, the better your chances for being Member of the Month. This month we would like to congratulate Campbell and Fetter Bank!

50/50 Raffle Returns

If you missed the January Membership Meeting, you missed the return of our 50/50 Raffle. We brought back the raffle to benefit our Scholarship Fund. The new rule is: if your ticket is picked, your CANNOT donate your half back to the Association! Congratulations to Dennis Spidel of Dennis Spidel Custom Homes! He won the 50/50 split and pocketed $35.

Remodelers Tour
Scheduled for the first weekend in May! Our Committee Chair this year is Jeff Deahl of Four Seasons Design and Remodeling. Anyone interested in putting a remodeling Project in Tour, please give Chris, Jan or Jeff Deahl a call. (Contact information is listed on page 5.)

BANI Annual Golf Outing

Scheduled for June 12. We are looking for Chairs and Volunteers to head up our Golf Outing Committee. Anyone interested in helping out with this event, please call or email Chris or Jan.

Builders Parade 2012

Time to gear up for this years Builders Parade! Scheduled for the first two weekends in August. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th and the 9th, 10th,11thand 12th. We still need entries to make this an even better parade than last year! If you are a builder and you have a potential project, please let us know!

C. William Wright, IBAs 2012 State President
The Builders Association of Northeast Indiana will welcome IBAs 2012 State President C. William Wright to the upcoming membership meeting on Tuesday, March 13th, 2012 at 7:00 at Timbers Restaurant in Angola. Will is the 60 th President of the Indiana Builders Association. Will started his building career in 1973, becoming a full-time builder in 1977, the same year he joined the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis. He is President and founder of Will Wright Building Corp., which is a custom home building company based in Carmel, Indiana. He founded and co-founded several additional companies, WWBC Development Co., Quadrant Development Co., Nu-Co Homes, Inc., Primrose Development LLC, Primrose Homes Inc., and Laura Vista LLC. He has a Chemical Engineering degree from the Indiana Institute of Technology. He has served the building industry as: the 1987 President of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis, a Senior Life Director on the IBA Board, Chairman of the Housing Cent, member and past chairman of IBAs Land Development Committee, co-founder of governmental affairs departments for both IBA and BAGI, co-founder of IBAs Housing Protection Fund, and a member of IBAs Finance and Investment committees. He has recorded over 237 Spike credits during his tenure. Spike credits are awarded for membership recruitment and retention. He has served his community as: Chairman of the Carmel Civics Square Bldg. Corp., Chairman of the Hamilton County Alliance, Chairman of the Higher Education Initiative, and Chairman of the Woodland Springs Home Owners Association. His community work also includes being the founder or co-founder of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, Guerin Catholic High School, Lafayette Diocese Building Commission, Hamilton County Alliance Economic Development, Carmel Clay Library Foundation, and Hamilton County Higher Education Initiative. Will also has served on many charitable foundations board of directors. Some of the awards Will has received include: Builder of the Year and the Mike Boeke Outstanding Service awards from BAGI, the John C. Hart Presidential Award from IBA, and the Pace Award and Chairman Emeritus from the Hamilton County Alliance. Will, and his wife, Joan, have six children, seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. As the chief spokesman for housing in 2012, he will direct the policy development for affordable housing and work for its implementation with the governor and legislature.

If You Missed It - Our January Speaker, IMAN, gave us with an excellent presentation on the new IMAN System currently being installed in our area. This is a Community Owned Fiber Optic Broadband thats reliable, affordable and secure. It should be noted that the most amazing benefit of this network is that it is incorporated as a supporting organization for the Steuben County Community Foundation, allowing a 65% return from all subscription fees back to the foundation for operating and grant making purposes! As IMAN grows (and it will), the charitable capacity of these funds grows too! The end result is a very much needed Fiber Network System for our Businesses and larger financial resources for long-term community grant-making. Its a WIN-WIN!!!!!!!! The Plan Commission amended the ordinance on 9/20/2011 for all garages. 1. 2. 3. 4. All accessory structures are to be one story. There is a maximum of 6 of headroom allowed for storage in attic. Attic trusses are NOT allowed. Maximum Height of 18 from floor to peak of roof. The new amendment goes as follows:

Everyone knows there is a new Energy Code coming. The Steuben County Building Officials will begin enforcing the new energy code starting April 5, 2012.

The Building Department appreciates all the effort put forth by the Builders in Steuben County towards code and compliance and we look forward to working with all concerned in the future. Together, we can build affordable and safe homes. If there are any complaints or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

Builders: Are you Participating?

Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards What QABS means for you, the consumer: The Indiana Quality Assurance Standards provide new homebuyers and remodeling customers a way to measure their builder and the project against an industry approved set of standards. These Standards create a series of performance standards builders and customers can use to communicate and understand each other's expectations regarding building/remodeling projects. The Standards address the most prevalent issues that arise between the builder and the customer before the project, during the project, and most importantly, after the project is completed. All too often it is the unrealized or undiscovered expectations that create the majority of problems encountered in the building/remodeling process. The Standards will help eliminate these problems before the project even begins. What QABS means for you, the builder: One objective of the Association is to improve the community image of the industry. Towards that objective, the builders association offers you the Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards. The program includes a set of standards, recommended language for including the standards and mediation/binding arbitration of the standards into project contracts, and marketing information. The Standards create reasonable customer expectations regarding the building/remodeling process, and address the most prevalent issues that arise before the project, during the project, and, most importantly, after the projected is completed. The Standards eliminate the unrealized and undisclosed expectations of the customer by giving the builder/remodeler a tool to discuss, identify, and set the customer's expectations before problems arise. Yet, disputes will inevitably arise that cannot be settled between the two parties using the Standards. With that in mind, the Standards also includes a mediation/binding arbitration mechanism to provide another vehicle to dispute resolution outside the costly and time-consuming court process. Let the consumer know you are a part of the network of quality builders. Include the Indiana Quality Assurance Builder logo in print, television and radio advertising, and promote your membership with the association in press releases and brochures.
