DRUG STUDY Drug Name Cefuroxime (Zegen) Indication Pharyngitis, tonsilitis caused by streptococcus pyrogens,otitis media, perioperative prophylaxis.

Dosage 500 mg 1 tab BID Adverse Reaction Headache, dizziness, lethargy, nausea, omiting, abdominal pain, flatulence Contraindications Contraindicated with allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins. Use cautiously with renal failure, lactation, pregnancy. Mechanism of Action Bactericidal: inhibits synthesis of bacterial cell wall, causing cell death. Nursing Responsibilities >Give oral tablets with food ro decrease GI upset and enhance absorption. >Take full course of therapy even if you are feeling better. >This drug is specific for this infection and should not be used to self treat other problems. >They may experience stomach upset or diarrhea. >Discontinue if hypersensitivity occurs.

Drug Indication Name Metoprolol >Hypertension alone or with (Neobloc) other drugs, especially diuretics. >Long term treatment of angina pectoris

Dosage 50 mg 1 tab BID

Adverse reaction Fever, dizziness, fatigue, rash, sore throat, gastric pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, nocturia, joint pain, muscle cramp, dyspnea, rhinitis

Contraindications

Dosage 500 mg 1 tab every 8 hours PRN

Adverse reaction Headache, dizziness, fatigue, rash, dyspepsia, dyspnea, bleeding, dysuria

Contraindications Contraindicated with hypersensitivity to mefenamic acid, aspirin allergy and as treatment of perioperative pain with coronary artery bypass grafting.

Mechanism of Actions Antiinflammatory, analgesic, and antipyretic activities related to inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis; exact mechanism is not known.

Nursing responsibilities >Take drug with food; take only the prescribed dosage; do not take the drug longer than 1 week. >Discontinue drug and consult your health care provider if rash, diarrhea or digestive problems occur.
