Chapter I Introduction This alcohol drinker merits analysis as an individual and as a problem in the promotion of community hygiene.

Alcoholism being a problem that took the interest of the author for study because it hampers the growth and progress of community hygiene and it leads to many irresponsible parents and it destroys the youth; most especially it is harmful to the health of an individual. We are under the New Society because of our desire to be discipline, but in spite of the many acts and laws pass by the government to help minimize alcoholism; still the people themselves find ways and means of creating this as a problem to the country. Alcoholism is a present problem existing within our very own locality, going wider to our very own locality, going wider to our country as a whole. This is because of lack of education regarding the effect of alcohol to health, due to the different belief being carried with it, due to some unreasonable reasons, which that extracted from alcohol drinkers. With all these different reasons, it leads to

unhygienic community, accidents and every death to an individual. It is then the wish of the author that after this study and research, the recommendations made and be presented to the alcohol drinkers, parents, youths, teachers and readers for analysis. To help parents, teachers, and community leaders lessen this problem.

Statement of the Problems The research work involved specifically to discuss the following questions. 1. What is alcohol and how it is prepared? 2. How is alcohol absorb by the body? 3. What is the effect of alcohol in digestion, circulation, and nerve coordination? 4. Is alcohol a stimulant or a depressant? 5. How can alcohol be treated?

Importance of the Study conducted

This study was made possible with the purpose of the inspiring the youth and the society that alcoholism is itself is harmful to health. It destroys man, his family, the community, and the country. Id like to inform parents of children who drink, adults, leaders of the community to join hand and hand with the teachers educate our youngsters, alcohol drinkers, elders about the harmful effect to health and to the abuse use of the society. Finally, the recommendations made in the study serve as guidelines if not to be followed by parents, community leaders, educators or anybody responsible in the prevention of alcohol in order to have a healthy, harmonious and peaceful community to live in.

Definition of terms used Alcohol is an organic component containing one or more hydrogen group Alcoholism the process in which an individual becomes a salve to alcohol Stimulants a substance that awakens the nerves Depressant a substance that depresses the nerves Fermentation chemical change that is brought about by certain microscopic organism

Chapter II Findings

After all had been processed and evaluated, it was found out that people drink because of their own belief and reasons. With these findings noted, it then proves

that these reasons given are not satisfying answers to non-drinker. It merely proves that alcohol is not an answer to these reasons of drinking but it is the individual himself to find how to solve his problem since he was the one who created it. This leads to broken homes and a bad impression to the community, the province and the country. Therefore, parents, youths and the people of the

community who knows the value of health should avoid drinking alcohol liquor or begin lessening the amount of alcohol you drink in a day. Furthermore, it aims to enlighten the minds if not to prevent, all alcoholic drinkers to help themselves not to become a slave to alcohol therefore helping the community find the solution to this problem, further to check our wrong belief that alcoholism carries with it.

Chapter III Summary

Alcohol is one of the major problem that exist not our country as a whole. Alcohol is a general name for a series of alcohol as ethyl, prepyl, butyl and amyl. Ethyl or grain alcohol is the most common alcohol produced by the action of yeast plant upon a sugar. Fermentation is a chemical change that is brought about by certain microscopic organisms such as yeast. The latter contains the enzymes known as enzyme which bring about fermentation of the glucose. The product of this reaction are alcohol and carbon dioxide. This is subjected to different fractional distillation resulting to the production of almost pure alcohol. Alcohol is the important constituent of all fermented and distilled liquors such as beer, wine, whiskey, gin, brandy, and etc. When concentration of alcohol reaches 17%, the fermentation process ceases because the yeast plant cannot survive a higher concentration beyond this point. Alcohol boils at 176oF and the steam that it is given off at about 180oF, is collected and cooled and liquid alcohol is distilled from the steam. Reinstallation produces almost pure alcohol. Some distilled alcohol liquor are: 1. Whiskey obtained from distilled melt liquor or potatoes and beets 2. Brandy from fermented fruit juice 3. Gin from grains 4. Rum from fermented sugarcane juice or molasses

Absorption in the body: The absorption of alcohol is very fast. If it is taken with stomach, alcohol is absorbed to the extent of 40%. With food or water 2 ounces of alcohol is completely absorbed and burned by the body in about 7 hours. Alcohol has a food value of 200 calories per ounce. This can be compared with 114 calories per ounce. This can be compared with 114 calories per ounce of CHO and 270 calories per ounce of fat. Primarily, oxidation of alcohol occurs in the liver and no intermediate product is formed. The peak of alcohol concentration usually occurs about one and a half hour. After drinking, the amount eliminated in
6

the urine, breath and perspiration is small.

Alcohol does not increase body

temperature but it can produce acid ostensibly repressing and breathing center in the brain so that the carbon dioxide level rises in the body by increasing lactic acid level and reducing the Alkali reserve of the body. Thus, in this study and research the effect then of alcohol depends upon the accumulation in the blood. Also upon the amount taken in, the rate of drinking, the concentration of alcohol in the drinker and to the physical size on the individual. A factor that will delay the absorption of alcohol is the food taken in by the drinker. The effect on digestion, circulation and nerve coordination: The effect on circulation depends upon the quantity consumed. If small

amount is taken in, it produces an increase in gastric secretion and therefore give rise to a sensation and therefore interpreted as hunger. Strong alcoholic liquor irritates the digestive tract. If the drinker continue to drink it will cause the irritation of the throat worst and also chronic inflammation of the stomach. The effect on circulation is the result of the narcotic effect on the nerves governing circulation. The narcotic effect on the cardiac inhibitory centers in the brain reduces impulses along the inhibitory nerve fibers to the heart which cause the breaking section thus reducing it. The heart tends to speed up. Elation indicates that different parts of the nervous system are affected by the different concentrations of alcohol. It first affect the heart and respiration affects later. The vital nerve centers do not appear to be affected by low concentration of alcohol. Is alcohol stimulants or depressant? Studies reveal that alcohol is always a depressant rather than a stimulant. It is a stimulant in the sense that it stimulate a stimulant or so called appetizer, the nerves governing the brain on thinking that you think fast. You act so rapidly as if you are sure of what you are doing, it makes you talkative, and makes a man do so many things which we cannot at normal condition The chief effect then is the depressant action upon the nervous system. The feeling of exhilaration is the result of depressant action on the higher nerve centers. Sleepiness may be the only one observed from the drinker. Larger quantities of alcohol paralyze the nerve centers. After which eventually lead to unconsciousness. Motor condition is greatly reduced. An evidence of waste coordination being affected by alcohol is so many automobile accidents that happens to drinkers who have been drinking moderately
7

without attention but concentration, memory and reason, judgment are very much coordinated. The speed of performance also is being slowed down and therefore there is an increase of errors that happen. Pathways to alcoholism: 1. The person drinks socially occasionally. 2. He drinks to relieve severe anxiety. 3. He drinks to relieve minor tension. 4. He drinks more than he intended. 5. He stars eye-opener as soon as he wakes in the morning 6. He prefers alone to drink or with few people.

These are the beginnings in which an alcoholic drinker does until it becomes a habit in which lead to the destruction of his health. He takes it as medicine and because of being social but without realizing the outcome of it. Usually, this happens to a person who is maladjusted, trying to find a way to relieve his tension, or his inability to tolerate failures and criticisms. This also happens to an immature person who needs to bluster his feelings of adequacy, to protect himself from disappointment and to escape the realities of life and responsibility wherein family situations can be the area of alcoholism as well as cultural factor.

Conclusion With the findings after the study and evaluation, I conclude then that alcoholism exist as a problem because of the wrong concept attitude to its users. Our lack of, moreover due to education about its harmful effect to health, our lack of mass media for information and due to our stubbornness although we know its bad effect and because of pride that people holds through and using it to solve ones problem.

Recommendation

1. Parents should try citing to their children the bad effects of alcohol to their health, since a little of alcohol will but later become habit, that when alcohol becomes a habit, it will lead soon to be a servant to it, and finally, to be a slave will soon reach its final end which is death. 2. Parents should encourage their children to read books, magazines or any mass media of communication concerning the effect of alcohol to health. 3. Parents and teachers encourage their children and students to read health books, magazines, and other reading materials about health. 4. Encourage practicing health rules in their daily life activities.
