2.5 Section E - Accountability Diagram Your accountability diagram should show: Two or three levels of authority above your post Your post (indicated with an arrow) All the levels below your post. Any professionally registered members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology or similar professional bodies, noting their category of membership. You should avoid: Using colour or shading as these make the diagram illegible when scanned and photocopied. What if? There is not enough space to include diagrams for previous jobs? Please use an extra A4 sheet. Your organisation operates a flat-based structure? Please illustrate. You should ensure The page is verified by your sponsor or supporter. If your sponsor is within the organisation you work for that they are clearly identified on the diagram. 2.6 Section F - Education

You should give details of: All academic qualifications, including any which you have already registered with the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Any formally assessed work-based learning. You should include with your application: A copy of any academic certificate(s) you have listed in this section, verified by your sponsor, supporter or mentor unless you have already submitted these to the Institution of Engineering and Technology and received formal notification that you have satisfied the educational requirements. 2.7 Section G - Professional Development Scheme

What if: The information that can be given is limited for reasons of national or commercial security? This should be indicated clearly. You should ensure: You have had this page verified by your sponsor and supporter. You have not provided more than 1 page for each decade of employment. 2.9 Section I - Other Professional Experience

You should provide details of: Any reports, papers and patents published in your name. (If you work in a research or academic environment, summarise your published papers on not more than one A4 sheet.) Any significant technical reports you have written (or co-authored) during your career which demonstrate your technical ability. Any service to the community i.e. JP, school governor, etc.

Part 2 - Qualifying Report on Professional Development (QRPD)

In the QRPD you should: Give a succinct statement from your experience against each of the Competence and Commitment Statements. Aim for no more than 200 words per statement explaining what you have done. The ability to analyse and summarise is evidence of your communication skills. If more information is required to supplement the form, we will contact you and ask for it. Aim where possible to cite more than one piece of evidence per competence statement. This gives peer assessors a broader impression of your experience.

In the QRPD you should not: Cite training courses as evidence of competence on their own. Courses will only supply the underpinning knowledge you need to carry out the task. You need to demonstrate how you have used this knowledge in your current/past role.

You should ensure: The statements are verified, by you sponsor on each page. What if?: You have kept records using the SARTOR 3 competence framework? Please refer to the competence map below. One piece of evidence demonstrates more than one competence? There is no problem with this, but please make sure you explain which aspects of the work are relevant in each case.

Part 3 - Sponsor and Supporters

Introduction Aim to choose a Sponsor (ideally where you work), and a Supporter(s) who have detailed and upto-date knowledge of your work so that all of the information in the application can be verified. Ideally, Sponsors and Supporters will be Members or Fellows of the Institution of Engineering and Technology and registered with ECUK in the same category for which you are applying. We know that this is not always possible and the table below shows who may act in each of these roles.

Sponsor

Supporter

CEng IEng EngTech EC(UK) or international equivalent registered engineer, Member or Fellow of the IET or of another professional technical or scientific organisation of equivalent standing. Working at a senior level to the candidate now or in the recent past, preferably for at least two years, and with direct knowledge of the candidates role and responsibilities. Where a registered engineer with direct knowledge of the candidate is not available the current line manager, or employer may act as Sponsor. Member or Fellow of the IET or another professional technical or scientific organisation of equivalent standing to the IET, current or previous line manager, mentor, employer or client preferably to have known the applicant in a professional capacity for at least two years. The second supporter signature is optional and may be necessary, for example, if you work on contracts, as an additional signature to enable adequate verification of periods of your employment.

You should ensure: Your Sponsor has read the Guidance Notes for Referees and that they have reviewed your portfolio of evidence, if you have one, and your application to ensure that you have addressed all of your competencies and verified section H and your competence statement (part 2 of the application form).

What if?: You do not have a portfolio of evidence or your Sponsor does not know your work well? He or she may wish to contact employers or line managers to verify information. An Institution of Engineering and Technology Professional Registration Advisor or an Industrial Representative may be able to help if this proves challenging. Details of Industrial representatives and Area Advisers can be found on the IET website www.theiet.org/careers/qualifications

SARTOR3:UK SPEC Competence Statement map UK SPEC, launched on 1st December 2003, includes a slight revision of the professional engineering competence statements.* Candidates who have already started to build a portfolio of evidence based on the 19 CEng statements or 18 IEng statements can continue to store their evidence under the old framework. The table below shows where evidence of competence from the previous framework is addressed in the new framework. For example, if a CEng or IEng candidate submits evidence of A3 this will be assessed in the context of A1. Candidates needing to refer to the competence statements to assess their progress towards developing the competences should also use this table.
