The following words are well known to non-native speakers of English and especially Thai people, but mistakes

are often made in their use.

EXAMPLE:
I dont think I am beautiful, but another told me I am.

In this sentence, there is no noun for another to refer to. What does the speaker mean?
I dont think I am beautiful, but another colleague told me I am.

Now we know what the speaker is referring to colleague.

EXPLANATIONS
I went to Japan with 5 friends and we all had a great time. Two of my friends bought lots of clothes but the others only bought souvenirs.
The others here refers to the remaining 3 friends from the group of 5 who didnt buy clothes but bought souvenirs instead. We can clearly understand the use of the others because the noun friends was mentioned in the sentence and there is more than one.

There are two airports in Bangkok. One is in Don Muang which is for domestic travel and the other is Suvarnabhumi.
This sentence clearly states that the speaker is talking about two things airports. After the first airport is mentioned, the speaker then uses the other to explain about the remaining airport. It isnt always necessary to repeat the noun but the other must refer to the final person or thing.

A lot of Thai people are superstitious and have strong beliefs about ghosts, spirits and ancestors while others completely reject these ideas.
Thai people, a plural noun, is introduced as the main reference in the first sentence. The use of others refers to an indefinite number of Thai people but not the remaining number of Thai people who dont believe in ghosts, spirits and ancestors.

The food in this restaurant is delicious and a lot better than other similar restaurants which are far more expensive.
The first section of the sentence talks about food and one restaurant so other is then followed by a noun restaurant to describe additional restaurants. A plural object must follow other when referring to additional things or people.

Chulalongkorn University is one of the most prestigious and well-known universities in Thailand. Another is Thammasat University located on the banks of the Chao Praya River near the Grand Palace.

Another in this short passage is referring to an additional university. The word university is not necessary in the sentence but, if used, it is not grammatically incorrect. The word another in the context of this sentence basically means one more.
