2. Does it need changes? Yes, it needs change! I. INTRODUCTION The curriculum is a set of educational materials and instruction provided to students. Other definitions, "a plan prepared to launch the process of teaching and learning under the guidance and responsibility of the school or educational institution and its faculty."Ralph Tayler in the Basic Principles of Curriculum and Instruction, believes there are four determining factors in curriculum planning, factors that philosophical, sociological, psychological and epistemological. These factors mainly sociological factors, has developed a very dynamic, so demands to develop and evaluate of curriculum change

periodically. However, because the sociological aspect is also different from one place to another place, then in addition to the equalized national curriculum, it is necessary too curriculum development in accordance with local conditions and potential of each educational institution.

P a g e | 17

The new paradigm in Indonesia, the role of the state experienced has very significant change with the reduction of government's role. The government is conceptually and practically no longer as a central institution that decide all provision in detail; or centrally control all motion and dynamics of Higher Education. Government in the new paradigm is simply providing the basic framework; provide incentives for financial and human resources can be allocated to the most important priorities in higher education; and encourage each university improve its quality standards

II. CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF ISLAM COLLEGE CURRICULUM

There are some views that need to be considered in curriculum development PTAI, namely: 1. PTAI as college who has mission as an institution or scientific development for Islamic study that are rational, dynamic, critical, empirical and also as religiosity organization as well as trying to build loyal religious attitudes and behaviors, committed against Islam, as well as full dedication to the religion that believed the truth of Islam on the basis of scientific insight that is owned, by upholding the dynamic harmony of religious life. 2. PTAI as a college who held academic education programs, vocational and professional, a mission to prepare prospective graduates who are able to integrate intellectual personality with academic scholars and / or vocational / professional and integrate vocational / professional and or academic intellectual with personality of preachers as their concentration and expertise which is practice in their rural life hood, country and global world. 3. PTAI as an integral part of the national education system has efforts to prepare prospective graduates who have the advantage that can fulfill national competitive standard and international quality. 4. PTAI a missionary institutions which carry out the mission of guiding and supervising the Islamic community in various sectors of life.

P a g e | 18

Based on some of these basic views, there are some problems that IAIN faced in its development so far. Some principal problems are as follows. First, IAIN not play optimally in the academic world, the bureaucracy and the people of Indonesia as a whole. Among this three environments, it seems IAIN greater role in society, due to strong orientation to the mission rather than the development of science. Second, IAIN curriculum has not been able to respond to scientific and technological developments and changes in an increasingly complex society. This is caused mainly due to the field of religious studies which are less experienced IAIN specialization and reapproachement interaction with the general sciences, and even still tend to be dichotomous. IAIN curriculum is still too heavy on the sciences that are normative, whereas the general science that can lead students to a way of thinking and a more empirical approach and contextual still seems inadequate.

3. What changes do you want to do in your schools curriculum? I. INTRODUCTION

In the context of the State Islamic Institute (IAIN), which has specialized in Islamic studies, philosophical factors above can be seen from the objectives of education and teaching in the IAIN itself, namely as a means to transfer the values of Islam and the noble values of Indonesia (transfer of values); knowledge transfer (transfer of knowledge), especially the field of Islamic studies, and skills transfer (transfer of skills).

Forms of knowledge transfer and the value is already quite well established, but the form of transfer of skills that are related to employment, seems still in the search process. Only a few majors that already have a good form, such as Islamic education and religious courts.

P a g e | 19

II. CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT In Curriculum Development known as the three terms have different meanings, namely: Revisit, Change, Improve. In this case, I prefer to use the term curriculum revision and should be done periodically, especially the important thing are;

1. Decompartementalization; In line with efforts decompartementalization is the return of several fields of separated study to their main science, for example Tafseer I, II, III, IV (8 credits) with enough weight to its Tafseer course but such a large (4 credits), also for the subject Education Islam Formal I & II (4 credits) simply by Islamic Education Non-formal course (3 credits)

2. Emphasis on mastery of the methodology of Islamic studies; In a study of the science of religion (Religionswissenschaft) are generally rich in substance but poor methodology. Basically there are two forms of Islamic studies: a substantive and functional or in other terms the doctrinal and historical-empirical. When doctrinal-normative assessment methodology, so that the methodology of the historical-empirical studies is a social and historical method.

With the integration of both methodologies is expected to progress the study of Islam in Indonesia. During this study of Islam in Indonesia is more emphasized doctrinal and normative aspects, it needs to be balanced with the historical-empirical studies. To support this, it should also be pursued proximity (reapproachement) between the Islamic religious sciences with social sciences and humanities. This can be done by making the social sciences and humanities as a field of study complement (minor) for the study of Islam

3. Mastery of Foreign Languages In the current curriculum, foreign languages (Arabic and English) again becomes an important concern, each totaling 6 credits, which should be emphasized here is the practice language

P a g e | 20

"ready-use" is not merely theoretical. Such Biology Education, the student should be able to teach Biology in English or Arabic.

4. Suppression of local curriculum relating to the world of employment. There are several alternatives to implement this local curriculum namely, providing courses that are considered important to support areas of study in the department but not in the national curriculum. For example, the provision of courses that in line with the majors or courses of study and related to the work of life. a. For example a course on Photograph Skill and Journalism Skill in Communication Studies and Islamic Broadcasting Program; b. Courses that provide practical knowledge Calculating Tax and Accounting Computers that really gives students skills in the course of Islamic Accounting and Islamic Banking; c. Entrepreneurship Courses (3 credits), should really grow the entrepreneurial spirit by providing "practical business technique" not a theoretical by making business laboratory" that provided from the campus.

The practical science should be given to alumni (output) so that they can face the workforce in government enterprises and also private, both on a local, national and global or it can open up opportunities entrepreneurship.
