McNarry: UUP
panicked on deal
SPEAKING out after two weeks
of silence, estranged Ulster Un-
ionist David McNarry has warned
that his party faces the end of
the road.
Writing in todays News Let-
ter, Mr McNarry says that he has
been removed from the inner
circle of the UUP which author-
ised him to talk to the DUP, and
accuses the party of panicking
when the talks were revealed.
UUP members have been pub-
licly warned by party chairman
David Campbell not to comment
on the McNarry affair and the
row has left the headlines.
But, with disciplinary moves
against him proceeding slowly,
Mr McNarry who although now
an independent MLA remains
a UUP member today speaks
out.
In an apparent reference to his
leader Tom Elliott, the Strangford
MLA says that the project of
unity itself cannot be allowed to
fail simply because some have
panicked over news of talks ei-
ther embarrassing them or fnd-
ing them wanting when push
was coming to shove.
And, also writing in the News
Letter, First Minister Peter Rob-
inson urges unionism to fght the
threat of Scottish independence
with a positive pro-Union cam-
paign, rather than dire threats.

Creamery targets
milk pool increase
FIVEMILETOWN Creamery
managing director Mervyn
McCaughey has confrmed to
Farming Life that the Co Tyrone-
based, farmer owned co-op is
now procuring milk from farmers
across every county in Northern
Ireland.
We aim to increase our supplier
milk pool by up to 40 million
litres in 2012, he explained. Our
projected processing target for the
same period is 90 million litres.
Last year Fivemiletown
improved its turnover by
approximately 61%. We also added
14 new people to the payroll. This
increase in business was achieved
on the back of improved exports to
Great Britain and countries around
the world.
We are totally committed to
the production of high quality,
speciality cheeses and its a
strategy that is paying off for us at
the present time.
Fivemiletown brands such as
Ballybrie, Cooneen, Oakwood,
Ballyoak, Ballyblue and Boile
are now commanding premium
returns on markets around the
world, including Great Britain, the
Republic of Ireland, France, the
United States and, more recently,
Hong Kong.
Fivemiletown has won a host of
international cheese awards. The
company is also fully accredited
in terms of meeting the criteria
demanded by the retail, wholesale
and catering sectors.
Mr McCaughey went on to point
out that Fivemiletown has received
enquiries from potential suppliers,
located throughout the length and
breadth of Northern Ireland, and
parts of the Republic of Ireland.
We currently have 49
shareholder suppliers and 16
contracted farmers. All those
on a contract will be offered a
shareholding in the business
if they wish. And yes, we want
