engineering is the technology of tailoring a surface by changing its structure and/or composition through application of an appropriate process. The desirable properties so produced maybe used for applications involving high strength, enhanced wear, friction, and corrosion resistance. This workshop will address various technical aspects of this vital field. The workshop will cover fundamentals about different types of surfaces, correlation between surface structure and its properties followed by a comprehensive review of major surface modification techniques including carburizing and nitriding treatments, thermal spray coatings, physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Activity 3 will be dedicated to advanced surface characterization techniques.
Research Interests
Thin films and nanostructures, Advanced materials characterization, Plasma polymerization, Electroless deposition, Sol-gel synthesis, Carbon nanotubes, Thin film photovoltaic technology.
