Dear Parents

report will be available from the office and the school website. Tomorrow we have the opportunity to participate with the childrens author Craig Smith (of Wilbee the Bumblebee and Wonky Donkey book fame!) in a show at school. He is down for a writing workshop (which a couple of our senior students will attend). Besides putting a show on for the school he will also share how setting goals has influenced his career! The $2 cost, is being subsidised by school leaving a $1 per child charged to the next school account. We are really excited about the opportunity to have Craig visit our school. Regards

What a wonderful day we had on Monday at our annual zone athletics sports. A huge thank you to all the parents and staff involved in coordinating events, helping move groups and encouraging the participants. Our students did us proud in the way they competed and supported each other. Thank you to Paula Stewart for all her effort in coordinating our involvement in this great day! Tonight is the first of our informal opportunities for you to come along to school to discuss any aspect of school life. For this initial evening it will be good to brainstorm what topics of discussion are out there and then use this information to guide us from there. Drinks and nibbles will be provided.

It has been great to hear the feedback about progress being made with the consecutive day of our swimming programme this year. The 2 week, afternoon sessions block has meant that we have made the best progress possible while limiting the disruption to 'normal' school life as much as possible. We are conscious that along with athletics it has been quite tiring for our children so we will look to shift our swimming block away from the athletics date for next year. Thank you to Jan Forde for all her effort in coordinating our involvement in this busy programme! Next week is the second board meeting of the year. The school has been busy with its annual audit and reporting requirements. When this is finalised the overall school annual

Week 5 Term 1
MANUKA (R6) - have posted our swimming goals on our blog and invite you to check them out and leave a comment to give us some encouragement to achieve them. We are working very hard in the pool and have made fantastic progress. Thank you parent helpers you make it so much more valuable for all involved. Thank you for continuing to keep up the homework during this busy time - it is also great to see the confidence in reading, letters, words and numbers grow too! MIRO (R5) What a great day on Monday for athletics. Well done to all the athletes in Miro. You should all be proud of yourselves. I think it was awesome because there was heaps of fun activities - Hannah I liked coming 3rd in the long jump - Danja A big thank you to the Holloway family who have donated a Miro tree to our class. We look forward to sharing our mini inquiry about the Miro tree on our blog. There has been no set homework this week as I have been away sick and will be back onboard Thursday. Please keep up your reading and visit study ladder for basic facts practice. Have a great week. Kiri

RIMU (R3) have been working hard at swimming time. I am sure that you will notice some very tired children, so plenty of early nights over the next few days will really help. As we work on getting ourselves ready for learning it is great to see that so many children have named drink bottles and items of clothing as this helps us set up good classroom routines which are easy to follow. If anyone is interested in helping out in the classroom at the beginning of the school day on a regular basis or at other times that suit just pop in and see me as this would be very much appreciated. RATA (R4) On Monday we had a lovely day for athletics. It was great to have so much help and see so many people there to support their children. I waited a long time for my Dad to pick me up. I was so hungry because I forgot my lunch and drink bottle - William. I was happy because I came third in the relays, Millie. I was excited because I came first in the hundred metres - Grace. I am really impressed by the progress that the children have made with their swimming and water survival skills. It's fun being in the big pool - Harriet. I like doing back stroke because it is cool to float on your back - Ethan. Have a great week Evelyn Aurik.

TOTARA (R7) We had a superb day at the Athletics and want to say a tremendous thank-you to all the parent help, with you all pitching in the day runs so smoothly! We have been very studious in participating in our PAT testing and are all feeling pretty good about our abilities to sit a test situation. We will use the Data to help us work towards our Value of Self-Improvement. We are all "Participating to Progress!" Certificates: Ethan Tuffley for working hard to improve your swimming skills. Rose Ellendon for working steadily towards achieving your basic facts goals.

KAURI (R8) I was surprised that I beat my personal best at the high jump. I also won the 800 meters. I was behind someone until the final corner when I gassed him and managed to win - Jack I got further at the shot put than when we were practising at school! I think it was that we were doing lots of practice. That felt pretty good - Benjamin Assembly - No assembly this Friday due to swimming sessions.

Myross Bush Rugby Club Schoolboy Registration Day: Friday March 9th (after assembly (2.45-3.30pm) Just a reminder that Schoolboy rugby kicks off on Sat April 28th. This year we want to know well in advance which kids are playing rugby, especially 7, 8 and 9 year olds in case we are low in numbers. Remember your age is from Jan 1st of this year e.g. if age 8 you will play Under 9s. If you already know your kids are playing please email Mel Lemin on lemmil@xtra.co.nz or phone her on 2304354. If we can get a rough idea about numbers before Registration Day this would help. We need a minimum of 12 players for Year 8, 9, 10 teams. Thank you Richard Stodart

from the classroom

KOWHAI (R2) We have been busy in Kowhai with swimming and athletics. It's been great to practice new skills and reach towards the goals we have set ourselves. How exciting to see so much learning happening, and the pride the children have when they master something new. We are writing stories about Athletics Day- keep an eye on our blog for the story and some action pictures! Look in your childs home folder for some new spelling homework this week. This activity is great for helping to reach our goals about hearing sounds in words. A little bit each day really helps accelerate progress!
