Indication Treatment of patients at risk for ischemic eventshistory if MI., ischemic stroke, peripheral artery disease. Treatment of patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Nursing Considerations Assess for symptoms of stroke, MI during treatment. Monitor liver function studies: AST, ALT, bilirubin, creatinine if patient is on longtreatment Monitor blood studies: CBC, Hgb, Hct, cholesterol if the patient is on longtherapy; thrombocytopenia ad neutropenia may occur.

Nursing Considerations Use minimal doses for minimal periods of time, drug tolerance can occur with prolonged use. Keep a betablocker, such as atenolol readily available in case cardiac dysrrythmias occur.
