1.3 STEAM CLIENT INSTALLATION AND ACCOUNT CREATION The Darksiders installer will check your computer for an existing installation of the Steam Client. If it detects that no Steam Client is installed, it will automatically begin an installation of the Client. If it detects an older version of the Steam Client the installer will update that version to the most current. Following the Steam Client installation and/or update, the installer will prompt you for your Steam Account login information. If you do not already have a Steam Account, you will create an account at this time. For further information on Steam, please see their Support page at https://suppo rt.steampowered.com/ or their New Users page at https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7 141-OPGX-5121 1.4 DIRECTX(R) DETECTION AND INSTALLATION The Darksiders installer will check your computer for the currently installed version of DirectX(R). If it detects an older version of DirectX(R), i t will install DirectX(R) 9.0c and 10 automatically. The installation of DirectX(R ) will not harm your DirectX(R) configuration. Darksiders requires DirectX(R) to install and play.

===================================================================== 2) TROUBLESHOOTING ===================================================================== 2.1 INSTALLER/PATCH ISSUES A. Interference from Anti-Virus Programs It is recommended that any anti-virus programs be disabled when attempting to install Darksiders. Anti-virus software can often interfere and corrupt the installation process of new software. B. Modifications Any modifications to Darksiders may result in the inability to patch successfully. Before applying any modifications we suggest backing up the affected files and replacing them before applying any patch. Not doing so may result in the need to re-install the game. C. Uninstall

2.2 VIDEO ISSUES A. Latest drivers required For best performance and video quality, please make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card when running Darksiders. If you have an ATI or NVIDIA video card, you can find drivers on their websites. http://ati.amd.com/ Driver: Catalyst 10.3 or newer [Include newest Catalyst driver here] http://www.nvidia.com/ Driver: ForceWare Graphics Driver Version 197.13 or newer [Include newes t ForceWare drivers here] Preliminary tests with out-of-date ATI drivers have shown some graphic corruption while playing Darksiders. Upgrading to the latest ATI drivers can solve the problem for most users. Preliminary tests with out-of-date NVIDIA drivers have shown lower performance and missing objects. Upgrading to the latest NVIDIA drivers can solve the problem for most users.

2.3 SOUND ISSUES A. Latest drivers required Please make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card when running Darksiders. B. The sound stutters while playing Make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card. If stuttering persists try reducing Hardware Acceleration. From your Windows(R) desktop, click Start, then Run, type "dxdiag", then hit Enter. This brings up the "DirectX(R) Diagnostic Tool". Click the Sound tab and try reducing the "Hardware Sound Acceleration Level" slider. C. Sound Issue 15246

Plugging in headphones while the game is running does not work. Please be sure to start the game with headphones plugged in as the game may not detect headphones plugged in after the game has started. D. Sound Issue 15006 Volume controls on some keyboards may not work for Darksiders. 2.4 OPERATING SYSTEM-SPECIFIC ISSUES A. Windows Shortcuts have been disabled Shortcuts like Windows+D, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, Ctrl+Esc have been disabled to prevent conflicts with the software. B. Administrator Privileges Needed To Install On Windows(R) XP and Vista(R) and Windows 7(R). You must have Administrator privileges to properly install the game. You do not, however, require Administrator privileges to play the game after it has been installed. For information on how to change your user settings to obtain Administrator privileges, please refer to your Windows(R) documentation, or click the Start button and select 'Help and Support'. C. Alt-Tab to Switch Applications Some drivers do not support the Alt-Tab switching between Darksiders and other applications. It is highly recommended that you do not use Alt-Tab to switch to another program while Darksiders is running. If you wish to switch programs, first close Darksiders. Using Alt-Tab while Darksiders is loading can result in loss of all sound when returning to the game.

2.5 KNOWN ISSUES A. CRASHES There are various out of memory crashes that can occur under different situation s: 1. Running Windows XP and starting a new game with Abyssal Armor. 2. Running Windows XP and losing a challenge in any of the Shadow Arenas. 3. Running Windows XP & NVidia graphics cards and selecting Continue option from the Main Menu after quitting the game during the fight with the Phantom Gen eral in Scalding Gallow. 4. Quitting out from the Pause Menu while currently in the Shadow Realm whether by granted ability or activated ability via Mask of Shadows. B. Saving/Loading Saving and Loading at various instances before, during, or immediately after game play action sequences and auto save events can result in undesirable game play behavior.

D. Gameplay 1. There is a chest icon that shows up on one of the buildings in the water at Drowned Pass, but there is not an actual chest there. This has caused a lot of confusion in the community until word got around that this was a glitch. It is particularly annoying for those who are completionists looking to obtain all achievements, but encounter this bug. 2. There is an issue in the Black Throne where if a player saves after opening t he door leading to a room and then loads that save, the door could still be closed. This creates a progression block. ===================================================================== 3.
