Dear Parents

digital technology is enriching, motivating and beneficial for our students learning. Parents are interested in having the time to talk about internet safety, cyber bullying, the use of blogs and the opportunities technology can provide for us all. These workshops have the potential for some great dialogue and even for conversations to continue. See you there!

Wow - what an amazing 2 weeks of

swimming we have had. We are so lucky to have the ILT support this programme for the school, along with the swimming coaches and the coordination from Marie McQueen and Oscar. With the enthusiasm of our teaching staff we were able to give every student the opportunity to improve their swimming technique, distance and water safety. Last week saw the first of our Parent Workshop evenings. We had some great discussion about school life and the way classrooms are structured in

2012. Please go to the website and read the full reflection on the evenings discussion, view the short 11 minute cartoon illustration on how the traditional education system is structured and some challenging thoughts on what needs to change! Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it and who contributed their thoughts and ideas on what we were going to discuss. Our next workshop is planned to be in Week 9 of this term and well be looking at the move towards eLearning in our school and how

Fun at the athletics last week. From strong foundations.....

Week 6 Term 1
MANUKA (R6) - Niall is lucky enough to know Craig Smith AKA 'The Wonky Donkey' author. He came and shared his songs and books and then told us that to achieve your big goals you need lots of practice setting and meeting little goals. Great advice to us as we try to achieve the mammoth job of becoming great readers and writers and number problem solvers. We break these 'big goals' into little bite size goals and feel great about chipping away and achieving these. We learnt about the four walls that make a healthy person - Holly I enjoyed playing a game with Ben Wylies Dad - Adam I enjoyed playing in the playground - Anneka

KOWHAI (R2) Keep an eye on our homework books - our new oral language programme this week will give us lots of practice as we work on being a great speaker in front of a group. Some children have also started a spelling programme. Please see Mrs P if you have any questions. We have started our new inquiry 'Growing From Within'. We planted a kowhai seed and discovered what it needs to grow tall, strong and healthy. We wonder what kowhai kids need to grow into strong and healthy learners? Watch this space...

RIMU (R3) are working hard to set goals to help us with our learning. We know we need to practice things that we find difficult more than things that we find easy. Thank you for all the effort put in during swimming time. I know that all of the children made great improvements in their swimming at Splash Palace. If anyone has any photos that we could post on our class blog please let me know. As we get back to a more 'normal' class routine the children should be less tired when they get home. RATA (R4) Last week we were lucky enough to have Craig Smith come and sing some of his songs to us. He told us about how he sets lots of little goals and how this helps him to succeed. This week our school goal is to have and use excellent manners when greeting people. We decided that to meet this goal we will; use the persons name, use eye contact and smile at them. It would be really helpful if you could encourage us to do this as well. My email address is: evelyn@myrossbush.school.nz Please note that this is different from the address on the class newsletter. Thanks, Evelyn

KAURI (R8) Kauri have been working on starting their 'Skills Project' for the month of March. We're picking 1 new skill that we have little experience with and practising everything we're learning about 'self improvement.' Some of us are juggling, stilt walking, learning French and even learning how to draw realistic animal pictures. We'll be practising how to plan, prepare, be organised, reflect and change what we do. You could help us by asking how well we are 'perservering' with our skill. Have a look at our kidblogs and make some comments on our weekly reflections. We can't wait to showcase what we've achieved at the end of March! Mr Herring

MIRO (R5) What a wonderful visit to the Wharenui at Andersons park on Monday. It was a great way to introduce the Hauora model of (well being). This is a key understanding in our inquiry. Please ask your child to share more about this with you. A huge thank you to all the parents that were able to share this experience with us. We learnt some things about the Maori culture - Blake I learnt that when you visit a marae you must have an invitation(welcomed on) -Bailey

from the classroom

TOTARA (R7) had a fantastic "Mystery Field Trip" to Andersons Park on Monday to tune in to our Inquiry on Te Whare Tapawha. Thank you again to all the parent help. I have received a comment from a staff member at the Park who said that they thought the Myross Bush children were all well behaved and it looked like we were doing some fun learning! We are starting to set up our new classroom blog, check it out at teamtotaraMB.blogspot.com
