PREFACE The purpose of general education is not merely getting marks.

A student who completes his education must be able to understand the concepts and equipped with technical skills. One of the reasons of failure in finding employment is lack of it is difficult to transform the theoretical knowledge to practical knowledge. Our learning should be activity based and real life oriented. The learning of science should instil ability to observe, analyse and infer the facts behinds the wonders of nature. There should be a total change in the attitude of students, parents and teachers. We a cannot bring a radical change in the higher secondary education..What we aim is to organise an outreach program that supplements the school based learning. This is what we aim. STEM will supplement the school syllabus A roadmap will help us to reach our goals. It will help to achieving our long term goals further expansion. It enables us to calculate the completion time. The roadmap is divided into two phases. An initial phase and the final phase. The initial phases is the back ground works of the outreach program. The stake holders of the program are Volunteers of TISP:volunteers of the TISP get an opportunity to work for the society, develop professionalism. A driving committee is to formed. Representation from first year to final year students TISP Champions: Mentor the program Teachers: Enhance their level of technical literacy, Helps them to provide their students hands on engineering sessions.5 teachers may be selected from each schools Pre school Students: Apply their theoretical knowledge in real life situations Non Governmental organisations

STUDYING THE SYLLABUS This is first step. To study the syllabus of SCERT 8th 9th and 10th science and maths.

DEVISING THE CURRICULAM The next step is plan a curriculalm that is more activity oriented by making low cost models. It must help the students to understand the concepts what they learned in textbooks. These activities can be downloaded from sites like www.tryengineering.org This site is for students teachers and parents. It is sponsored by IEEE, IBM. It provides some sample lesson plans reviewed and approved by teachers and some interactive games.lessons featured in this site apply the engineering design process which is a multiplexed process used by engineers to efficiently create solutions to complex problems.visitors learn about learn about engineering and how engineering changes our daily life www.howthingswork.com This site explains the wonders of science. It offers good articles quizzes and games. It offers a free news letter. The science section has further subdivisions like engineering, environmental science, physical science innovations etc. Some motivating articles like how can you win Nobel prize are also included

The curriculum devised for STEM envisages the following Awareness of science and technology All learners should get the opportunity to get acquire the current developments of science and technology and apply the textbook knowledge into real life situations Scientific temper The curriculum that we device must foster logical reasoning by encouraging students to brain storm develop novel solutions to open ended problems Here is a list of some activities that can be included in STEM sl no 1 ACTIVITY Windmill: Lesson focuses on how wind energy can be generated small scale and large scale Voltage dividor Students will design bult one of the basic circuits of electrical engineerin g Designing and Age group 8-18 Materials required Hair dryer or fan small objects to lift, glue cardboard aluminium foil wooden sticks Resistors, LEDs breadboard s Budget syllabus Renewable energy, wind energy, engineering design source www.tryengineeri ng.org
