Fool's Paradise Episode 6: The Date

Episode 6: The Date

Mistress Genevieve, welcome home! At the familiar greeting, a young girl shrieked and tackled Callie into a tight embrace. Ian Castillo's younger sister was none other than the enchanting Genevieve Castillo. Adorned in an expensive white gown, the thirteen-year-old threw her golden curls back and admired Callie from top to bottom. Callie appeared to be the same as ever. Genevieve exchanged kisses on the cheek with the maid before she switched her attention to the other person in the room. Dearest brother! Genevieve said, dashing over to Ian. Genevieve, Ian said, trying to hold back the emotion in his voice. His shorter sister stopped in front of him. Oh, how I've missed you! I missed you, too, she confessed, wrapping her arms around his body. You've lost weight, Ian. Have you not been eating well? Master has been sleeping less, Callie reported. Ian! Genevieve said, gasping. How dare you neglect rest! Being a Third Year is quite difficult, Ian said. Genevieve frowned. Is that why you've been staying home this entire break? Very much so, Ian said solemnly. How about you? Did you enjoy your trip up north? Oh, Ian, Genevieve said with sparkles in her eyes. The whole trip was so delightful! Look! Genevieve motioned for the servants outside to carry bags and boxes inside the Castillo mansion. I even bought souvenirs for everyone! Even for Callie? asked the maid. How can I not buy a present for you? Genevieve asked, motioning for one of the boxes to be handed to Callie and then another to Ian. Callie thanked Genevieve immediately while Ian checked his box briefly. Genevieve latched onto Ian's arm. I hope you like these new boots I picked for you, brother! I spent three hours on it! No matter what you buy me, I will love it, Ian said, holding firmly to his gift. You bought a lot of souvenirs for yourself, Mistress Genevieve, Callie said in awe. No, silly, Genevieve said, leaving Ian's side and running up the stairs. She giggled and cried, They're for Bobo of course! Wait, Genevieve! Ian chased after her to stop her in time, but it was already too late. Genevieve reached Bogancio's empty room with a horrified expression on her face. No Bogancio. No sign of any of his luggage or belongings either. Neither the servants nor Ian dared to talk or approach Genevieve, who was shaking from top to bottom out of fury. The servants quickly dropped off the boxes and bags on the carpet of Bogancio's room and hurried away from Genevieve as possible. Brother, Genevieve said in a deadly cold voice. Where's Bogancio?

About that- Where is he? Genevieve demanded, whirling around to face her brother with the scariest pair of blue eyes he had ever seen. She stomped her right foot. Where's my fool? What have you done to him? Did Mother make you do it? Genevieve, Ian said softly, touching her shoulder. Mother has nothing to do with this. Genevieve shrugged off his hand immediately. Is it Father then? He always wanted to force Bogancio onto the streets before. The golden-haired girl grabbed a handful of Ian's shirt and tugged him toward her. Tell me, Brother! Did Mother and Father dispose of him somewhere? Is he, Genevieve's lower lip quivered, dead somewhere? Nothing of the sort, Ian gasped. Bogancio is currently staying on campus. The siblings and Callie shifted their attention to the door where a tall, thin woman with similar golden curls to Genevieve tied in a bun behind her head. Ian bowed at the sight of his mother; Genevieve, on the other hand, wrapped her arms across her chest instead. I heard from the Superintendent that he is taking makeup exams because he failed his midterms the first time, Mrs. Castillo continued. There is nothing to fuss over, Genevieve. The future princess of this country shouldn't act so childish over such trivial matters. Future princess? Ian repeated after his mother. Have you forgotten, Ian? Mrs. Castillo said with an understanding smile. Genevieve will be officially engaged to the fifth prince after her fourteenth birthday later this year. Oh, yes... Ian glanced in his sister's direction and noticed that she had her eyes lowered to the ground. Even if he knew about his sister's engagement his whole life, he could not help but feel pity for her. He shared a similar fate and every day, he wished to find a girlfriend to change his parents' decision. His sister wasn't as fortunate as him since she attended an all-girls school. Moreover, Genevieve was betrothed to a prince no less. Genevieve will be attending the King's birthday celebration where the royal family will announce her engagement to the fifth prince to the public, Mrs. Castillo said, giving Genevieve a proud look. I will have Bogancio and a couple of other servants escort her there. Genevieve's eyes widened. Why... Why? Mrs. Castillo said in disbelief. We've readied you for this moment your entire life, Genevieve. Genevieve started tearing up. What is there to question? I hate you all! Genevieve shrieked and ran out of the room. Genevieve! Ian said, ready to follow her when his mother's arm stopped him. Mother? Your sister has finally become a woman recently, Mrs. Castillo said. Ian's eyes widened. Her emotions are getting the best of her. Leave her alone and she'll calm down by tomorrow. She needs time alone to think everything over. Yes, Mother, Ian said with a low bow. Permission to leave? Callie finally spoke up.

Please look after Genevieve for me, Callie, Mrs. Castillo said to the maid. She trusts you above all others. Callie also bowed. Callie will dutifully do so. The maid went straight for Genevieve's room and stayed outside for ten minutes before she knocked on the door. No reply. However, Callie could hear Genevieve inside. For the sake of her mistress, Callie stepped out of line and entered the room. The entire room was decorated with silver and golden silk. Ian's younger sister sobbed against her pillow in the middle of her grand bed. Callie stood stiffly next to it. Mistress... Just say what you want to say, Genevieve said through her pillow. Beg my rudeness, Callie said, taking a deep breath. You have known about this arranged marriage for thirteen years now. Genevieve sniffed back the tears. Why do you choose to rebel against the idea now? I don't care about that! Callie blinked. Mistress Genevieve, Callie is not as bright as you so... At last, Genevieve sat up straight and frowned at Callie. I will marry him. I already know my duty as a Castillo for years now. But... Genevieve's face fell. Why must Bogancio escort me on my trip to be engaged to another man? Mistress... Callie said, feeling guilty. About the Fool... *** Eh? Kandyl cried with wide brown eyes. You and Bobo- I promised you, didn't I? Karenana said calmly. She picked up her cup of tea and sipped it. She and the other three girlfriends sat around in circular table outside in the backyard. That I would tell you what happened between Bobo and I that night. Why are you so surprised, Candy? Andy Blaire asked with a tilted head. Maybe she's surprised that it didn't happen sooner? Dani suggested. I mean, hell, I was! With Nana's personality like this, she should have jumped Bobo ages ago. Dude, Dani threw Karenana a look of dismay. What took you so long? I may be sexualized, but, Karenana said, still sipping her tea. I think about my well-being, too. I don't want to make any hasty decisions. Nana is smart, after all, Andy Blaire said in agreement. This is a big step though... Kandyl said, uncertain. How long have you and Bobo been dating anyways? Dani said to Karenana. She munched on a biscuit. Fill the new girl in. Twelve weeks, Karenana answered automatically. It's been three months already? Kandyl cried. The other three looked at her, which made her flush bright red. It's only been nine weeks with me... You guys keep track? Dani said, laughing. How hardcore! Andy Blaire glanced away. I... do too... Blaire, Dani said, scooting her chair closer to the redhead. Mind keep tracking for me, too? I'm not really good at this stuff. If it's too much of a bother for you, Andy Blaire said to Dani. You don't need to keep track at all, Dan. It's not obligatory. I know, I know, Dani said, waving it off. But it's good for record keeping. Record keeping? Kandyl said, blinking at Dani. What do you mean, Dan? Er, how do I put this? Dani said, frowning. If my parents were to ask how

long I've been dating, I should be able to tell them. The other three nodded in understanding. Though... I guess they would be more concerned about you guys than the time period, to be frank... Andy Blaire grinned. Your parents are athletes, aren't they Dan? Both her parents are international champions, Kandyl said automatically. She had already researched about Dani with her mother's database when Dani joined as Bogancio's fourth girlfriend. And they are usually away either for practice or some kind of international tournament, right? Yup! Dani grinned. So they probably don't give a shit. Should I still keep track? Andy Blaire clarified. Sure, why not? Dani said with a carefree shrug. Dani grabbed a muffin now. If it's not too much of a bother for you, Blaire? Your date is easy to calculate, Andy Blaire told Dani. You are around five weeks after me. That's easy? Dani said in disbelief. Well, if you say so. I will keep record for you then, Dan. Dani widened her grin at Andy Blaire. Thanks, Blaire. You are the best. Back to Nana, Andy Blaire, turning back to Karenana. Dani started chewing her muffin loudly next to Andy Blaire. I suppose three months is a good enough period of time to determine whether you are serious or not. Oh... Kandyl said, frowning. So, Nana is serious about Bobo? I am serious about everything I do, Karenana said sternly. That's true, Kandyl said quickly. Kandyl chose to stare at the table instead of at Karenana. Or else why would you take your relationship in that direction? You're so innocent, Candy, Karenana said without hesitation. This isn't some fanclub where we shower him with affection and ask for nothing in return. Dani and Andy Blaire exchanged a worried look. Technically, we are all his lovers. We are entitled to that type of relationship. It is our right as his girlfriends. Our right... Kandyl said in repetition. I will wait until we are married, Andy Blaire said. The others turned their attention to her now, though Dani kept half of hers on a cupcake. I feel no need to hide this secret from you girls; I wish to marry Bobo one day. I do, too, Kandyl said with sparkling eyes. I suppose the same for me, Karenana said slowly. I just go with the flow! Dani said, grinning. What happens happens! Your inability to be serious is quite incredible, Dan, Andy Blaire said to Dani. Kandyl mentioned this Dani characteristic to Karenana and Andy Blaire not long after she trashed the lockerrooms. But anyways, I want to make a proposal, then. Go ahead, Karenana said, interested. I appreciate Nana sharing her experience with us, Andy Blaire said with a nod to Karenana. I will in no way interfere with any of your experiences with Bobo, but I wish to be informed about them afterwards. I feel like our bond allows for no secrets. I like that plan! Dani said after she finished her third cookie. Plus, it's kind of a dick move to keep your progression with Bobo from his other girlfriends. It's like cheating but not? I see nothing wrong with your proposal either, Karenana said.

Kandyl bobbed her head frantically. It makes sense to me. Andy Blaire gulped down half of her coffee. So, other than Nana, none of us have moved beyond hand holding? I, myself, am waiting patiently, as stated before. I think anything else is icky, Dani said proudly. She started nibbling a cookie. What about you, Candy? Andy Blaire said, glancing in the pink-haired girl's direction. Kandyl had a solemn expression on her face. Nothing so far. I'm pretty sure it's because I have zero sex appeal. Dani stopped eating at Kandyl's rejected voice. Karenana lifted a brow. Andy Blaire frowned. My boobs might be big, but I don't possess even half of Nana's sexiness. They are big, Dani said, staring at Kandyl's chest without shame. But you're cute, Karenana said with a shrug. I agree with Nana, Andy Blaire said. You're cute, Candy. That's me, Kandyl said sadly. Cute, innocent Kandyl... The other three girls waited until Kandyl left the area to head back inside to talk among themselves at the situation at hand. As usual, Kandyl wanted to put on her makeup and dress as nicely as possible before Bogancio woke up so the others took this valuable opportunity to discuss their battle plan. The three of them stared out at the outlandish backyard. She feels insecure, Andy Blaire stated. Even I can see that, Dani said. But why? Dani frowned and placed a hand on her hip. I've only been with you girls for two weeks and I can tell she's closest to Bobo. The other two muttered their agreement. She makes him her life goal. None of us can compete with that. It probably has to do with Nana, Andy Blaire said, glancing at Karenana. Right? Karenana giggled at Andy Blaire's question. Our Candy has to grow up some time. You're sadistic, Dani said, laughing in amusement. Andy Blaire glanced at the orange-haired girl since she still wasn't used to her carefree nature. But still, she's your best friend, Nana. You should do something about it. Everything's already been taken care of, Karenana said, shrugging innocently. Er, they are? Dani said, clueless. That's our Nana, Andy Blaire said to Dani. She figures out plans before we even realize there's a plan going on. I'm stupid, Dani said with a wide grin. Explain please, Miss Girlfriend Number One. Karenana pouted at Dani. I planted the idea in her pretty head about her rights as a girlfriend, didn't I? Ah! Dani gasped. You were so condescending. I was going to call you out on it! Why didn't you, then? Karenana said with an arched brow. Cause, Dani said, widening her grin. You're scary. You really are, Andy Blaire agreed immediately. I didn't even try, Karenana said, rolling her eyes.

We know, Dani and Andy Blaire said in unison. Anyways, moving on from this pointless discussion, Karenana said, wrapping her arms in front of her chest. Our Candy is under the impression that it'll only fun and games in this open relationship with Bobo. Karenana shook her head in disapproval. But now that she has learned about what happened between Bobo and I, she must return to reality. Ah, Andy Blaire said with her dark eyes lit up. In other words, she feels inadequate next to you, Nana. Oh! That's why she was comparing sex appeal to you earlier! Dani said, understanding. I didn't get the point since she obviously has way more than Blaire and I combined. I appreciate the honesty, Andy Blaire said sarcastically to Dani. You're welcome, Dani said, grinning and patting Andy Blaire on the shoulder. What Candy needs is reassurance that she is loved by Bobo, Karenana continued. The other two agreed. At least, a confirmation from the Fool that he loves her on par with me. I can see that, Andy Blaire said, understanding. Candy is possessive like that. Problem! Dani raised her hand. I don't think Bobo will randomly tell her he loves her as much as he loves you. He's not that type of romantic person. You understand him incredibly well, too, Andy Blaire said to Dani, impressed. It's easy, Dani said, laughing. He's like me really! Anyways, it's not a problem, said Karenana confidently. She smirked at them. We have to set up the atmosphere and it will play out by itself. A sound plan, Andy Blaire said with a firm nod. It's hard to set up that kind of atmosphere when we're always together- Dani stopped mid-sentence and gasped. Oh! I get it now! For the first time, Karenana laughed at Dani's priceless expression. But we only have three days left until school starts again. Karenana poked Dani's arm. You're taking time off from Track Team practice to finish your homework right? Yeah! Dani said with a wide smile. Nana is informed. So, we don't have to worry about you, Karenana said in dismissal, turning to Andy Blaire. Dani dropped her jaw at Karenana. How about you, Blaire? Is there any business you need to take care of before school starts? I am done with my homework, Andy Blaire said. The other two had expected that much from a Superintendent's daughter. But I should catch up on my personal training. Do that, Karenana said without hesitation. What about you, Nana? Andy Blaire said, interested. What possible excuse can you think of to leave those two alone? Karenana smirked. What else? I need to study to be first rank of the Third Years. Why bother? Dani said, groaning. It's so much of a headache! You wouldn't understand, said Karenana under her breathe with a dark expression on her face. Dani decided to back down. It's what makes me happy.

You're right, Dani said. I don't understand. Andy Blaire shook her head at Karenana. That's all you ever think about, Nana... *** The Fool knew something was up. First of all, everyone was staying under the same roof courtesy of Karenana's house being so close to the school. So... why were they planning to meet up at the cake shop instead? Second, Karenana mentioned to him to dress nicer than usual for today. He wasn't meeting up with Andy Blaire's father again, was he? Much to his relief, when he arrived at the destination, Kandyl waited there for him instead. Oh, Candy, Bogancio said. You're here by yourself? Where's Dan? Kandyl said, slightly taken back at the sight of Bogancio in a nice, wool hoodie. I heard she was coming with you. She hasn't finished her homework yet, Bogancio said. He wasn't even going to bother finishing his. Never mind that. Where's Andy? Blaire has training to take care of, Kandyl said, tilting her head. Bogancio was also wearing a matching wool beanie. Have you heard from Nana, then? After Nana handed me clothes for this outing, Bogancio said, scratching the side of his neck. She left the house and I haven't seen her since. Oh... Kandyl said, flushing red. She had never seen Bogancio dressed this nicely before. I guess we should head back? Do we have to? At Bogancio's question, Kandyl flushed and stuttered, W-Well... we don't have to... I've been cooped up in that house for a week now, Bogancio said, grabbing a hold of Kandyl's hand and leading the way down the street. I want to stretch my legs for a bit. That's fine, Kandyl said quickly, staring at their linked hands. Bogancio's hands were surprisingly warm. It's just awkward without the others, you know? They're busy, Bogancio said with a shrug. It happens. Kandyl nodded frantically. Y-You're right. So, er, Bogancio said, turning to her with a blank look on his face. Is there anywhere you'd like to go? I'm fine with anywhere! How about you? Let's see, Bogancio said thoughtfully. I want to see my mothers, but they live far away. Are there any activities Bobo would like to do? Kandyl said, enthusiastic. Bogancio stopped walking. Yeah, but you won't like it. I'm Bobo's girlfriend, Kandyl said, more to reassure herself than anything else. I am sure I will like anything Bobo likes. Smirking, Bogancio dragged Kandyl faster along the road. You say that now, but you'll scream at me for sure later. Never, Kandyl said, reddening further. I accept everything about Bobo. Bogancio paused and tossed her a look of disbelief. But he recovered and said quickly, Let's try this, then. *** Inside the cake shop that Bogancio and Kandyl strayed away from, Karenana smirked at the other two girls sitting in front of her. Dani had ordered many plates

of cake to enjoy. Andy Blaire only ordered a cup of hot tea. Karenana placed her fork down on her now empty plate and wrapped her arms across her chest. Let me guess, Karenana said, amused. You're here to stalk Candy and Bobo? I couldn't concentrate on my homework, Dani said defensively. I finished my training early, Andy Blaire said quickly. Be happy I stopped you both, Karenana said with a genuine smile. Both Bobo and Candy are master stalkers themselves; we'll be caught in no time. What about you? Dani said through mouthfuls of cake. What about your studies? I wanted some cake, Karenana said, picking up the menu again. More like when they're done with their date, they have to pass by this shop, Andy Blaire said after she sipped her hot tea. Karenana lowered her menu so Andy Blaire could see her face now. Can it be that Nana is also insecure about her relationship with Bobo? The more you love, the more insecure you become, Karenana said with a playful smirk on her face. And we all know Candy loves Bobo the most. How can I compare to her? The very thought is ridiculous. You're here though, Dani said through a mouthful of cake. Does this mean Bobo and Candy are more important than your studies? Karenana glanced away and sipped through her third glass of mango smoothie. You're actually really soft and caring, aren't you, Nana? Dan, Andy Blaire said, touching Dani's arm lightly. Never say that about Nana. Why? Dani whined. It should never be spoken out loud. It's all right, Karenana said, interrupting. I admit that I am more serious about my relationship than I was in the beginning; that is nothing to be ashamed of. Andy Blaire and Dani smiled. But I'm really here to make sure the rest of my plans work out for them. What plans? Dani groaned. Why do I feel behind all the time? You'll catch on soon, Dan, Andy Blaire said in a reassuring voice. You're still new. I guess, Dani said with a frown. But I thought this date is the plan. It is, Karenana confirmed. But I am taking extra measures, just in case. Karenana smirked. I am a perfectionist after all. At Karenana's satisfied expression, Dani switched her attention to Andy Blaire immediately and held up her fork with a piece of cake stuck to it. Want a bite of my cake, Blaire? *** Before today, Kandyl had never paid much attention to the bridge that separated the east and west sides of the city before. At the moment, she was literally on top of it. Kandyl gasped; she thought she had lost her balance, but it was nothing more than a false alarm. Kandyl tightened her grip on Bogancio's left hand. Even though everyone was staring at them, Kandyl only paid attention to Bogancio. He was the reason why she was still balanced on top of something so narrow to walk on. How is it? Bogancio said, peering up at Kandyl.

Kandyl placed her right foot carefully in front of her left. Scary but so much fun! You're unexpectedly brave, Candy, Bogancio said casually, watching Kandyl shakily moved her left foot now. I thought for sure you would scream. This is nothing, Kandyl said, watching her steps carefully. If she moved too hastily, she might fall off the railing of the bridge. I'm more scared of Dan's practice routine than this. But you might fall. I trust Bobo. Bogancio glanced at the river below. I guess so. I am stronger and holding your hand. Did you do these things for fun when you were little? Kandyl said, steadying herself. Not really, Bogancio said, tightening his grip on her hand. It was not until Master took me in that I found any kind of fun in these activities. Is that why you've been so lifeless these days? Kandyl said in a whisper. I have? Bogancio said, shrugging. I don't know. You are really fond of Upperclassman Ian, said Kandyl knowingly. It must be hard for you to be away from him for so long. I miss him, Bogancio said, unashamed. But it's better this way. I don't have to deal with the other two for a whole month. Other two? That damn maid and Mistress Genevieve. Mistress Genevieve... Kandyl muttered under her breath. She stopped and managed to hold her balance thanks to Bogancio's hand. I believe that she is currently attending an all-girl boarding school? Something like that. Is she the one who has been sending you those pink letters? Bogancio noticed Kandyl raising her voice slightly so he tossed her a more serious expression. That's her all right, but Andy should have taken care of those letters for me. With a guilty expression on her face, Kandyl glanced away and said, I read one of them. You stole one? said Bogancio, more surprised than angry. Ever since we've moved in Nana's house, Blaire hasn't been throwing them away as usual and I happened to notice them sticking out of your mailbox so I helped myself, Kandyl said and closed her eyes as if Bogancio was going to hit her. When she felt and heard nothing, she opened her eyes again and noticed he was against the rail, looking down at the river. Bobo? You don't have to be jealous of her, Bogancio said in a solemn voice. He loosened his grip on her hand. If that's why you've been acting so weird, cut it out. I've been acting weird? Kandyl said, slipping a little. Bogancio tugged her back into balance as she looked down at him with tears in her eyes. Are you mad at me, Bobo? Nah, Bogancio said. Just you're acting weird and it's weird. How? Kandyl demanded. I don't know, Bogancio said, annoyed. But you're acting like Nana.

Kandyl's eyes widened. In what way? Being all cold and shit, said Bogancio, shaking his head. Oh... Kandyl said, sniffling back the tears. No, it has nothing to do with the letter- Kandyl lost her balance and tumbled off the railing. Thankfully, Bogancio reacted in time and pulled her toward him, therefore she fell on the correct side of the bridge and into Bogancio's arms. He moved by instinct and caught her without much effort. Everyone stared at them as Kandyl got back up on her feet and straightened herself. At the sight of her Bogancio, Kandyl was overwhelmed with emotion. I'm so sorry, Bobo! Kandyl cried, throwing her arms around Bogancio's body. I didn't mean to keep my distance from you! I swear it wasn't on purpose! That's better, Bogancio said, caressing the back of her head. I'm too used to you clinging that this whole time feels weird. I miss your arm so much, Kandyl sobbed. Yeah, it's like your permanent pillow now. It is, Kandyl said, picking her head up and gazing at Bogancio with bright tears. And for the record, I'm not jealous of your Mistress! Kandyl allowed the tears to drip the corners of her eyes. I'm jealous of Nana! Nana? Bogancio said, blinking. Why? Kandyl threw her head back and cried louder. Because Nana is so awesome and beautiful and sexy and intelligent and cunning and smart and cool- You're repeating yourself. I love her, Kandyl said with flushed cheeks. I love her so much! I know, Bogancio said with a sigh. Everyone knows. So, why do I feel jealous of her? That's so wrong. I'm such a horrible person! Bogancio shrugged. How should I know? Bobo! Kandyl shrieked. You should know! It's all your fault! What did I do? Bogancio said, frustrated. Can we start over? At the suggestion, Kandyl wiped her nose with the back of her arm before she continued, I don't know anymore. Kandyl cleaned her tears with the same arm. I need to organize my thoughts first. Er, Bogancio said, looking around the area for help. He spotted a stand, selling drinks and snacks. How about we get something to eat? Okay... Kandyl said reluctantly. Bogancio held his arm out to her. Then, let's go? Slowly, Kandyl slipped both her arms around his offered arm. She felt slightly better at the touch against his familiar arm. The two strolled over to the stand despite people giving them funny looks. After they ordered their respective choices, Bogancio went on ahead to find an empty table. There were many tables located nearby for passerbys to sit. As for Kandyl, she paid for the food with thoughts of what happened between Karenana and Bogancio occupying her mind. How should she explain her feelings to Bogancio? And how should she say them so he can understand her? How are you doing on this lovely evening, young lady? Kandyl turned around and met the sight of two boys around her age approaching her. They had friendly smiles on their faces. One of them was pretty

good-looking too by her standards. However, Kandyl was unsure what to think of them since they were complete strangers to her. I'm fine, thank you, Kandyl said with a shaky smile. Are you here alone? one of them said. Kandyl shook her head frantically. No, I'm actually with my- Kandyl jumped at one of them touching her arm. She backed away. I'm sorry but I have to- You don't have to be so defensive. We're not going to hurt you. We just want to ask if you want to have a quick cup of coffee with us. Shaking, Kandyl said softly, But I don't want to go anywhere... Candy? Kandyl's ears perked up at Bogancio's familiar voice as she turned her eyes in his direction. With tears in her eyes, Kandyl dodged the two boys and ran over to Bogancio. She hid behind his arm. Bogancio could read the situation from what little he saw going on between Kandyl and the two males. Without saying anything, Bogancio rubbed the back of her head affectionately to calm her down. Shit, one of the boys said. She's with someone. We didn't mean any harm, the other one said to Bogancio. We just want to ask her out. It's no problem, Bogancio said with a wide grin. I shouldn't have left my girlfriend by herself in the first place. It's my fault. Bogancio wrapped his arm across Kandyl's neck and kept her protectively under his arm. I hope you guys find someone else to pick up. Yeah, they said quickly before they left. Kandyl finally dared to look after them. A-Are they g-gone? Seems like it, said Bogancio, also watching them. Are you okay? I will be, Kandyl said, lowering her eyes to the ground. Next time, Bogancio said, steering her to the table he was sitting at. If anyone ever tries to hit on you, you have to look him in the eye and bravely declare that you are not interested. Kandyl nodded weakly. If you show any opening, they will not hesitate to pick you up by force. Again, Kandyl nodded. Unless they're really annoying, they won't pursue further. Bobo... Yeah? Why are you so afraid of bullies at our school, but not those guys? Bogancio blinked. Er, good question. Bogancio pulled out a chair for Kandyl to sit down. Because they have nothing against me? Bogancio sat down in the chair across from her. The guys at school hate me so they will try anything to hurt me. People who I've stolen food and clothes from in the past are the same way. Kandyl slouched in her chair. Except for people like that, I am okay with talking to most people. You're really social, said Kandyl enviously. I'm not really, Bogancio said. Just more than you, maybe. That's definitely true, Kandyl said with a weak smile. I'm not good with people in general. Kandyl clasped her hands on top of her lap. As you are fully aware of, I am able to look at the family registries my mother is in charge of. I am fascinated with people's profiles and their lives. They're so interesting. But that's where it ends. Kandyl released an uneasy laugh. I sneak around and follow

people because I want to know more about them. But never in my life... Kandyl fidgeted with her hands. ...have I had enough confidence to talk to people directly. You are pretty bad at making eye contact, Bogancio said, studying her. Yes, I am terrible at that, especially with strangers. But you're not like that with me or Nana or any of the others. Kandyl bobbed her head. Because I love you all so much! Again, Kandyl teared up, but this time, out of happiness. I should have went with my mother instead. She asked me to go on a trip with her, but instead, Kandyl reached over and held Bogancio's hand. I am here with you. Bogancio dropped his eyes at their entwined hands. Why do you like me? So direct, said Kandyl, withdrawing her eyes immediately. That's me, Bogancio said. If I don't get it, I'll ask. Do I have to answer your question now? No, but I'm curious now. I might not be later. Kandyl pouted and looked at him. Bobo! I'm joking, darling, Bogancio said, raising her hand to his face. Kandyl froze at the touch of his cold lips. I really want to know why a good-for-nothing Fool like me have such a cute girlfriend like Candy. I'm not cute, Kandyl said in dismissal. If you're not cute, why would random boys talk to you? Kandyl frowned. That's true... At the memory of Bogancio talking on her behalf earlier, Kandyl gasped and cried, You called me your girlfriend! Because you are? No, I mean, you admitted it in front of those guys! Bogancio looked confused. Because... you are? I just... Kandyl said, glancing away with flaming cheeks. For whatever reason... Kandyl paused since it was so hard to admit out loud. You don't like me that much... and never really see me as your girlfriend... You're crazy and weird, Bogancio said, making Kandyl whine. You never broke up with me and I never broke up with you. In my world... I don't know about you rich people... but you don't break up with someone unless you say it. I am weird, Kandyl cried, shaking her head frantically. Why am I so weird? I know why, Bogancio said, making Kandyl straighten up. You said it was because of Nana, but never explained why. Oh... yeah... You should do that? Right! Kandyl said, getting out of her chair. The workers at the counter finally brought the food they ordered over so Kandyl immediately sat back down. Well, I feel like you don't like me as much as Nana. You believe that... I would like you less than someone who tortures me every day? Bogancio said in disbelief. I know it doesn't sound right, but that's pretty much it. Are you sure you're feeling well? I have my reasons for believing this! I can't read minds, Bogancio said in reminder. I won't get this unless you say it, Candy.

I know it's stupid and that I shouldn't compare myself to Nana, but I can't help but feel like my position as your girlfriend is being compromised. Kandyl grabbed a hold of her plate of rice and held it in front of her face. It's just that you and Nana had sex and we haven't even properly kissed! Hold on, Bogancio said, grabbing a hold of her plate and placing it carelessly back down on the table. You think I like Nana more because I slept with her? Yes, Kandyl said shyly, unable to look at him. Of course she would tell you, Bogancio said, sighing. He felt a headache coming. Let me guess- Andy and Dan know about this, too? Kandyl nodded timidly. You girls really don't keep any secrets from each other. We love each other! Kandyl cried, feeling slightly insulted. I know that too well, Bogancio said, groaning. Well, this is weird. It is, Kandyl said, hearing her heart pound faster than ever. For me! And a first for me! Bogancio told her. Kandyl pouted. I mean, how many guys have to explain to his second girlfriend about his sexual relationship with his first girlfriend? Kandyl managed a small giggle. Only you, Bobo. Yeah, only me, Bogancio said, picking up his plate. I'm eating. I need energy for this. *** In the middle of a discussion about Dani and her workout routine, Karenana noticed two males entering the cake shop and motioned for them to come over. They showed no visible surprise at being targeted by Karenana. Andy Blaire and Dani looked at each other. They seemed to be in sync a lot these days. Miss, one of the two greeted. Meet Dani and Andy Blaire, Karenana said with a warm smile. My fellow girlfriends. Hi, Dani and Andy Blaire said simultaneously. Hello misses. These two are my father's workers, Karenana explained to the confused Dani and Andy Blaire. She lifted the glass to her lips and finished her pineapple smoothie. What are you two up to? Dani said, excited. The two kept their silence and instead, gazed at Karenana as if asking permission to speak. Karenana's laughter cleared the silent atmosphere. They're here to do me a small favor. Andy Blaire glanced at them suspiciously. What kind of favor? Again, they kept their mouths shut. Andy Blaire looked at Karenana, displeased. You didn't ask them to spy on Candy and Bobo, did you? No, nothing like that, said Karenana with an unashamed smirk. She shifted her attention to the two males this time. How did the plan go? Smooth, her father's taller worker said. Everything went well. The other one smirked. Your boyfriend is not as dumb as you described him to be. At Dani and Andy Blaire's disapproving looks, Karenana rolled her eyes. Thanks guys for giving me away! Sorry, Miss.

Nana, I prefer not to resort to violence, Andy Blaire said in a solemn tone. But I need answers and fast. Dani laughed out loud. Break a leg, Blaire! We should wait it out and see how this goes! Andy Blaire sighed and shook her head. What? This seems more fun than I expected. Fun is not exactly the right word I have in mind, Andy Blaire said. Dani patted Andy Blaire roughly on the back. Loosen up, you worry wort! Everything will be fine! I'm sure of it! How do you know that? Because, Dani said with a wide grin. Bobo's a survivor! He can handle anything! It's not Bobo I'm worried about, Andy Blaire said, turning her head to Karenana. It's Nana and- Andy Blaire couldn't find the two boys. Wait. Where did they go? I dismissed them, Karenana said with a carefree shrug. I wanted to question them further, Andy Blaire said, disappointed. Karenana smirked. Do you remember our original goal, Blaire? To help Candy feel better about her relationship with Bobo. That's right, Karenana said with a firm nod. So, as long as Candy is happy by the end of the day, does it really matter what means I use to get there? Andy Blaire stared, dumbfounded at Karenana. Dani burst out laughing. Dan, you are quite a firecracker. Thanks! Dani beamed. Andy Blaire released a sigh. Nana, you need to slow down the pace so we can keep up. That'll be too slow, Dani whined. She's already slow enough as it is! I'm not that slow, said Karenana coldly. No, Dan, said Andy Blaire. I don't mean that line literally. If so, then I agree, said Dani fiercely. She still doesn't get it, Karenana said to Andy Blaire. Yeah, but that's why it's refreshing to have her around, Andy Blaire countered. I feel really accepted with you guys, Dani said, wrapping her arms across Andy Blaire's shoulders playfully. I know you guys are making fun of me, but not in a condescending way like other people. Andy Blaire frowned. Other people? I don't want to talk about it, Dani said as she broke off her contact with Andy Blaire and picked up the menu again. Karenana shrugged it off, but Andy Blaire looked genuinely concerned. However, Dani started laughing. I'm joking. It's nothing serious. Just my teachers and classmates usually call me out for not taking my education seriously, but why should I? Dani pouted. I already have my running. But it's nice to have insurance, Andy Blaire said. Dani shook her head. That's too serious and boring for me. Serious and boring, Karenana said, giggling darkly. Are you okay, Nana? Dani cried loudly. That sounds like me every day at school, Karenana said, rolling her eyes. As Dani ordered more cakes to eat, Karenana glanced out the window next to her.

Anyways, Candy and Bobo must be getting along splendidly right about now. *** I am ready! Bogancio sat on top of a fence in the middle of an alley, looking down at Kandyl with a forced smile. Hit me with your first question! Are you really going to run away? Kandyl said sadly. No, no, Bogancio lied. I like the view from up here. So... Kandyl said with wide, watery eyes. You won't run away? Yeah, of course not. Because... Kandyl said, lowering her eyes. I'm not really good at protecting myself like Blaire or running away like Dan or thinking of a logical solution like Nana if anything happens to me while I'm by myself. Bogancio glanced at the other side of the fence before he hopped down and said, Really, Candy, I was only checking the scenery out. I know, Kandyl said with a soft laugh. I like better when we talk at the same eye level. What do you really want to know? Bogancio said, feeling uncomfortable. Let's see, Kandyl said, flustered. Everything about you. That's broad. How about... Kandyl said, leaving the alley with Bogancio behind her. We talk about your previous relationships if you have any... I have too many to talk about, Bogancio said curtly, taking the lead of their walk now. Too many? Kandyl gasped after him. I know a lot of people, said Bogancio, confused. No, I mean... Kandyl reddened. Like you and other girls... Hm, Bogancio said, stopping next to the same bridge as before. I've been with a lot of girls before I entered this school from maids to my mothers' daughters. Bogancio heaved his arm on top of the railing. But I think this might actually be my first one-on-one date. Kandyl grabbed a hold of Bogancio's left arm and shook it. Really? I don't even understand the concept of dating until like two years ago. This is my first as well, Kandyl said shyly. You are also my first boyfriend, Bobo. You're not my first, even without Nana in the picture, said Bogancio, noticing the depressed expression on Kandyl's face. But numbers shouldn't matter. It's how two people feel about each other. You're absolutely right, Bobo! Kandyl said, completely won over. Am I off the hook then? Bobo said hopefully. Kandyl noticed Bobo's tone and cried, No! I have more questions! Oh... said Bogancio, hiding his disappointment. Why did you sleep with Nana? Bogancio wanted to run. What do you mean 'why'? I mean, Kandyl said, frustrated again. She reached and clung onto Bogancio's left arm as if her life depended on it. Is it because you've dated her the longest? Is it because she's sexier than me? Or is it because there's some order to these things in a relationship like ours? None of that, Bogancio said without hesitation. Kandyl was caught offguard. Nana seduced me and I gave in.

Kandyl blinked. Is that all? We're dating. Why wouldn't I have sex with her if she initiates it? That's true... Kandyl muttered. I was overthinking things again... And for your info, Bogancio said, sighing. You said earlier that we haven't even kissed yet. Well, Bogancio shrugged. Nana and I haven't either. What? Kandyl cried. How is that possible? A kiss is intimate, isn't it? Bogancio said. Kandyl nodded slowly with flushed cheeks. My old lady once told me that a prostitute must never kiss her customer. Too many feelings behind a kiss. Bogancio stared down at the river with thoughts of his mother. You know, Nana. She would never do anything like that. Nana is the weird one, Kandyl said, frowning. Bogancio glanced at her in surprise. I love Bobo so much that I can't even stop myself from touching him and knowing everything about him. I want to kiss him more than anything in the world. Bogancio picked her chin up with his free hand. At the surprise touch, Kandyl loosened her grip on his left arm. The Fool took this opportunity to twist his body around in her direction and lean down to kiss her on the lips. The kiss only lasted about a minute before Kandyl broke away first and hugged herself. As for Bogancio, he thought about how cold her lips were. But they were also so sweet and soft. Bobo... said Kandyl under her breath. Hm? Kandyl returned to his arm and clung it against her chest. I don't actually know why I like you so much. All I know is that I want to be with you from the moment we met. Bogancio nodded, unable to speak right now. And you're right. It doesn't matter if I'm your first girlfriend or not. I'll make sure to be your last. That'll be nice, said Bogancio, smiling at her. Kandyl snuggled even closer to his arm. I'm shocked though! I thought for sure that our perverted Bobo made a move on Nana first! I will never make a move first. Why? Kandyl cried. Look what happened with you! Bogancio said, groaning. Kandyl gave him a guilty puppy expression. If I sleep with Nana, I have to explain to Candy, Andy, and now, Dan. Kandyl started giggling. Bogancio looked like he was on the verge of crying now. It's not easy being me okay? I'm sorry, Bobo, Kandyl said tearfully as she hugged Bogancio to her. Bogancio squeezed her to him. It must have been very hard on you. I should have been more understanding. Bogancio sniffed. It's okay... But you really don't have to worry, Kandyl said, rubbing Bogancio's back. Blaire is waiting until marriage and Dan finds kissing yucky. You only have to deal with me really. Bogancio had a disappointed look on his face. Really... So, that means I get the most loving from Bobo, Kandyl said happily, since it will probably be another four years or more before Dan and Blaire choose to be intimate. Bogancio started crying for real now. I know, I know, Bobo. You must be so relieved!

Yeah... Bogancio said, No foursomes for me... Did you say something, Bobo? Nothing, said Bogancio, swiftly holding Kandyl at arm's length now. He must not allow this sad news to linger. How about cake? Let's get some cake at that one shop. Kandyl's eyes sparkled. I want cake! Since the cake shop was opened for another twenty minutes, Bogancio and Kandyl spotted the other girls easily in the corner table with a stack of plates in front of Dani. Kandyl gasped and ran over to them with fury all over her face. Bogancio followed in a slower manner. Ripping the flower from her hair into tiny pieces, Kandyl said, That's not fair at all! I can't believe you guys are hanging out without me! I feel so left out! Kandyl slipped into the seat next to Karenana and hugged her sides. Kandyl started crying. Nana, I love you so much! I swear I will never be jealous of you again so please don't leave me out of our girl time together! Please do not misunderstand, Candy, Karenana said, removing the pink strands of hair from Kandyl's eyes. After the three of us finished our respective workload, we decided to hang out here and wait for you and Bobo to finish your date. Dani laughed. Yeah! The cake here is delicious! How was the date? Andy Blaire said, smiling sweetly at Kandyl. At the mention, Kandyl blushed bright red. Good! Very good! Did something good happen? Dani said, laughing and smacking Bogancio against the arm. Share, share! There are no secrets between us, right? After Bogancio rubbed his arm, he grabbed a chair from another table and moved it over to sit next to Dani. Candy and I- I'll explain when school starts, Kandyl said quickly, hiding her face behind Karenana's arm. The others laughed. That sounded familiar. For now, let's eat some cake- just the five of us! Let's celebrate one last time before school starts again! Karenana, Andy Blaire, and Dani groaned at the thought of more cake. But at least, for now, it seemed the relationship between the five of them was back to normal.
