March 5, 2012 To Whom It May Concern, Upon my employment at Pet Goods in Succasunna, NJ, I have witnessed a tremendous amount

of wrongdoings. Job titles are being misused and taken advantage of. A few examples of what I have seen done incorrectly by our mangers are: Incorrect filling of sumps - I have seen and been informed by other staff that the salt system is being filled with fresh water (R.O. w/ no salt) and then the salt is poured directly into the sump. Sometimes, directly onto live rock in the sump. Incorrect fish receiving - I have witnessed Mike on numerous occasions pour the fish, and the water they were delivered in, DIRECTLY into our systems. Improper training - The new staff members that were recently hired, Skylar and Samantha are completely inexperienced and are not confident in what they know must be done to take care of our animals. They are both scheduled for times when I am not there to teach them properly. And Jess and Mike have been giving them incorrect information. Ive found the small animals being fed the wrong food. When asked why they were given the wrong food, theyve told me that Mike and Jess allowed this to be done because the store was out of food.

I can no longer continue to allow this to go unnoticed. The management of our new employees is extremely questionable, and without proper adjustments it will continue to take place. I have also witnessed many misdemeanors committed by one of our managers, Mike. His family owns a pet store somewhere in New Jersey. Previous to his employment at Pet Goods, he was in a metal band since the 1980s. His arms and legs are riddled with tattoos and his attitude matches his appearance accordingly. Customers avoid him merely because of how intimidating he appears. He is rude and unprofessional in how he operates the store. I have also compiled a list of actions Ive witnessed while working with him: Recently, he injured his elbow at work. So while scheduled, he simply commands the staff working in stock to compensate for his lack of physical contribution. Permitting the staff working in stock to have group meals while still on the clock. Constantly taunting the Miniatus grouper and any other aggressive fish we have, along with the reptiles, (bearded dragon, corn snakes, etc.) and even rabbits and hamsters.

This continues to be an issue throughout the store. I feel the reason it hasnt been confronted is due to fear of Mike. He is not approachable and is less than helpful when asked for information. Ive told Jess what Ive witnessed being done wrong, and her response to all of this was merely, Why dont you tell him (Mike), yourself? I dont find any of my complaints are being handled professionally by Jessica Klingler. She is inexperienced with staff criticism and has flat out refused to make mention to Mike about his behavior. I feel their knowledge of anything regarding animals is very minimal, considering I was the one to train Jess when she first started working for Pet Goods. My time training her was only about a week before Ken Alford had fired me for fear of me reporting him to you and the authorities for

his behavior while running the store. These are things I feel should not be done under any circumstance. Animals health is being jeopardized. The way the management behaves and treats the staff is unacceptable. I also have a few instances Id like to go over with you and how they are improper. Most of our staff is very aware of these wrong-doings but keep silent for fear of risking their employment. The bio-wheel in System 1 has been missing since before my employment at Pet Goods. Jess has been completely aware of this. Her intentions are to take the old bio-wheel from the salt system, place it in System 1, and have it be replaced when its discovered by an employee from another Pet Goods because it merely appears broken. I was instructed by Jess to take a brand-new Fluval 405 off the shelf and switch it with the broken one we had for our show tank. Followed by taking the broken one to repackage it and return it to central as a, customer return. In one instant, Jess swore I was testing the salinity/specific gravity incorrectly. I then discovered they were the ones misreading the hydrometer. Air bubbles were still trapped underneath the measuring device, thus giving a higher reading than the actual. They then began doing a water change and filling the sump in the salt system with water that had zero salinity. This dropped the specific gravity from 1.024 to 1.017 in less than an hour, which in turn killed all of the turbo snails and dramatically stressed the fish in the salt-water system.

Whether or not youve been told, the Pet Goods in Succasunna has lost the following animals in the store in the month of February: one white rat, one Miami Phase corn snake, and one crested gecko. They have simply written them down as dead, in our record books. All of these have gone missing on shifts when I was not working. I hope you find this letter informative and 100% accurate in what Ive witnessed. Since Ive started working, sales in fish and small animals have improved comparably from the previous year. Talking to numerous customers that approach me while working, Ive found they only look for me when entering the store because I am friendly, informative and committed to teaching others the proper way to take care of their pets. I fear for your cliental base in the following months. Without proper actions and management taken, the sales of the store are at a high risk to plummet.

Respectfully, William Sweet
