ABSTRACT
Everyone fantasizes about staying in a home where everything is automatically controlled and we just enjoy the show. This project aims at building a Smart Futuristic Home where all the devices are controlled through a Micro-controller, the parameters for which in turn are passed through the PC over the RS232 Channel. This project is a combination of a Security System, a Scheduler and a Profile Controlled Home. The Profile Controlling is controlled through the Wireless Key Ring, which will be in the hands of the owner of the House. This House can automatically turn ON/OFF the devices that it is controlling at desired time thus performing as a Scheduler. This Futuristic House also features a Security System in which there will be 8 Sensors, which can detect any Door or Window open. The user is identified through the RFID tag reader by reading the tags and the Password is entered through the Key Board of the PC and the Database is maintained in the backend. The Backend is maintained either in Oracle or in My SQL. Also, a Stepper Motor Controlled Camera is mounted near the door so that we can have a look at the outside before opening the door. The door opens when the correct password is inputted for the valid RFID tags acting as smart Cards. The door opening Mechanism is demonstrated using: a. Motor for Retractable Doors b. Magnetic Lock The Profiling of the house is controlled through a Wireless Key Chain (something like a Car key Controller) and can Support up to 8 profiles. The profiling is especially useful when we wish that the house should behave differently for different occasion. Some of the profiles that can be supported can be: a. Secured b. Out of House c. Party d. Some Members e. Friends Visiting f. Parents Visiting 3

g. Alone in home Etc. The system can control devices depending on the Scheduling or the Profiling. The Devices controlled will be: a. 2 Bulbs b. 1 Geyser c. 1 Fan d. 1 AC point e. 1 Music Systems f. 1 Sprinkler Etc.

DESCRIPTION

MICROCONTROLLER
Micro controller is a main controller in our project. It controls all the operations of the devices connected to it. It provides interfaces to LCD, sensors, Relay, DC motor etc.,

GSM MODEM
The GSM has been used to send the alert SMS to the user when the car is stolen.

MAX 232
MAX 232 driver/receivers are used for serial communication using RS232, RS 232 driver is used mainly for the communication with the computer. Since the microcontroller RS232 protocol logic is 5V, computer RS232 protocol logic is 12V, to convert the 5V logic to 12V and 12V logic to 5V we use this chip MAX 232. By using this we can communicate to the microcontroller TXD and RXD pins of MAX 232 are connected to the serial ports of AT89C51, whenever the data is transmitted from processor to the PC it takes data from SBUF register and transmits PC.

DC MOTOR
A DC motor is designed to run on DC electric power. By far the most common DC motor types are the brushed and brushless types, which use internal and external communication respectively to create an oscillating AC current from the DC source-so they are not purely DC machines in a strict sense. In our project DC motor are used in the Movement of car either front or back, intoxicant spray and controlling the speed.

LCD
LCD displays the status of the modem whether it is installed or not, information about the password of the key pressed and the status of the password whether the password is rite or wrong.

RELAY
A relay is an electrically operated switch. Current flowing through the coil of the relay creates a magnetic field which attracts a level and changes the switch contacts. The coil current can be on or off so relays have two switch positions and they are change over switches In our projects relays are used to control the device like DC motor

SENSORS
A sensor monitors the status of the car lift.

POWER SUPPLY
For the operation of various components and devices, power supply is required.

8085 MICROCONTROLLER
PIN DIAGRAM :-

FIGURE NO. 5

DESCIPTION :The 8051MC provides the following standard features: 4K bytes of ROM, 128 bytes of RAM, 32 I/O lines, two 16-bit timer/counters, a five vector two-level interrupt architecture, a full duplex serial port, on-chip oscillator and clock circuitry. In addition, the 8051 is designed with static logic for operation down to zero frequency and supports Two software selectable power saving modes. The idle mode stops the CPU while allowing the RAM, timer/counters, serial port and interrupt system to continue functioning. The power-down mode saves the RAM contents but freezes the oscillator disabling all other chip functions until the next hardware reset.

SMPS (Switch-Mode Power Supply)

INTRODUCTION:A Switched-Mode Power Supply or SMPS, is an electronic power supply unit (PUS) that incorporates a switching regulator. While a linear regulator maintains the desired output voltage by dissipating excess power in a pass power transistor, the SMPS rapidly switches a power transistor between saturation (full on) and cutoff (completely off) with a variable duty cycle whose average is the desired output voltage. The resulting rectangular waveform is lowpass filtered with an inductor and capacitor. The main advantage of this method is greater efficiency because the switching transistor dissipates little power in the saturated state and the off state compared to the semiconductor state (active region). Other advantages include smaller size and lighter weight (form the elimination of low frequency transformers witch have a high weight) and lower heat generation from the higher efficiency. Disadvantages include greater complexity, the generation of high amplitude, high frequency energy that the low-pass filter must block to avoid EMI, and a ripple voltage at the switching frequency and the harmonic frequencies there of.

HOW AN SMPS WORKS :-

FIGURE NO. 10

If the SMPS has an AC input, then the first stage is to convert the input to DC. This is called rectification. The rectifier circuit can be configured as a voltage doublers by the addition of a switch operated either manually or automatically. This is a feature of larger supplies to permit operation from nominally 120 V or 240 V supplies. The rectifier produces an unregulated DC voltage which is then sent to a large filter capacitor. The current drawn from the mains supply by this rectifier circuit occurs in short pulses around the AC voltage peaks. These pulses have significant high frequency energy which reduces the power factor. Special control techniques can be employed by the following SMPS to force the average input current to follow the sinusoidal shape of the AC input voltage thus the designer should try correcting the power factor. An SMPS with a DC input does not require this stage. An SMPS designed for AC input can often be run from a DC supply (for 230 V AC this would be 330 V DC), as the DC passes through the rectifier stage unchanged. It's however advisable to consult the manual before trying this, though most supplies are quite capable of such operation even though nothing is mentioned in the documentation. However, this type of use may be harmful to the rectifier stage as it will only use half of diodes in the rectifier for the full load. This may result in overheating of these components, and cause them to fail prematurely. 15

FUTURE ASPECT OF THE PROJECT

16

This project will be helpful in making secured and smart homes. This project can be implemented as state of the art security systems for the houses and will able to stop illegal trespassing and intrusions in the houses. As the design and manufacturing is really cheap so one can easily afford this. Hope that this project will make lives smarter and safer.
