DIY DCOR
Find in this catalogue, over 100 of our most popular goodies available for hire as well as professional tips, ideas, and solutions for any party and every budget. This easy to read dcor catalogue combines quirky inspiration with nuts-and-bolts how-to for stunning results. For those looking to make the most of their budget and to create a stylish party, this guide is a start-to-finish resource to keep handy all year long.

OUR TOP 5 TIPS FOR DIY DECOR Whilst magazines, websites and blogs are a treasure trove of inspiration and ideas for planning your event, it is important that the Y in DIY is a reflection of yourself. To coin a phrase by William Morris have nothing at your event that you do not know to be useful of believe to be beautiful. The most impactful way to work in something handmade is to focus on the elements guests will see up close, like stationery or centrepieces, and also on things they will be able to touch and enjoy, like party favours. Creating your own decor is fun, but it is also time-consuming. Think about how much time you have to spend on each project and what you are good at. Even if you're crafty, it is really hard to make everything yourself, so consider bringing someone else onboard to help. For great, inexpensive materials raid your own house: coffee filters make lovely faux flowers, plain rope knotted around napkins looks cute and stamp a design on butcher paper to cover the table. Or better yet purchase items that can be used in your home afterwards. Just about everything can be hired/borrowed. But remember, sometimes it is not more cost efficient to hire, and it may be worthwhile to actually purchase the goods. Assign the task to someone to ensure that all goods that are hired do not go astray and are returned promptly. Also, take into account the contingency cost should an item be lost or broken. Lastly, if you know what you want and you are the type of person that usually does not change their mind, then order as soon as possible. By placing the order and confirming with the vendor, you could avoid lack of availability or sudden inflation costs.

LINEN

Fabric Table Runners Create one large table to seat the crowd by pushing tables together and hiding the resulting seams with table runners. Use identical cloths for all tables, and place the runners crosswise over the top rather than lengthwise, and their purpose becomes twofold: They add detail to your table and serve as place mats. Each runner is a piece of fabric with its raw edges turned under and topstitched.

Fabric Napkins

Beautifully folded napkins set the scene for a meal to remember. For best results, start with clean, pressed linen or cotton napkins. Be sure to starch them, and press each fold as you work. If you're expecting a sizable crowd for dinner, start your folding early. The Water lily Fold- this fold will be familiar to anyone who has ever made a paper fortuneteller. The centre provides the perfect spot to place a dinner roll, party favor, or place card. Fold a dinner napkin in half diagonally both ways, pressing to crease. Unfold napkin, flip over, and fold top corners to center point. Repeat with bottom corners, so all meet at the center. Flip the napkin over, and fold the corners to meet at the center. With a finger pressing down on the center of napkin, reach underneath and pull up the flap at each corner to create the petals.

Mood Board

The most successful events draw inspiration from an overarching theme rather than a single object. For example a "Great Gatsby"-style party with parasols, croquet, and mint juleps could be hugely successful, while a beach wedding with seashells everywhere and on everything is overkill. Not everything needs to be matchy-match.

Pinterest

Pinterest lets you organise and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pin boards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organise their favourite recipes. Best of all, you can browse pin boards created by other people. Browsing pin boards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests. To get started, request an invite.

LIGHTING
The glow of candlelight can lend a warm, romantic glow. From simple votives that you can buy at the store to shimmering luminaries that you can craft yourself, candles are a versatile tool that can create a magical ambiance. Place candles everywhere -- not just on tables but also on ledges and in little nooks and crannies. (Check with the site manager about any restrictions.) Candles also make a pretty centerpiece all on their own.

Glass Votives and Jars Flickering votive candles in glass holders cast amazing patterns and colours especially on white or ivory tablecloths.

CANDLE SAFETY

Always place your candles/tea lights in a suitable fire resistant candleholder. Make sure the candleholder holds the candle/tea light firmly and is on a flat and stable surface to stop it falling over. Always put the candleholder on a heat resistant surface. Always leave at least 10cm between burning candles/ tea lights and never place them under shelves or other enclosed spaces. Keep candles/tea lights, matches and lighters out of the reach of children and pets.

Keep candles/tea lights away from curtains, furniture and anything else that can catch fire. Always put candles/tea lights out and leave to cool down before you try to move them. Always put candles/tea lights out when you are out of the room and when you go to sleep. Use a candle snuffer or a metal spoon to put the candle/ tea light out it is safer than blowing them out which can send sparks and hot wax flying.

HOW TO SET A FORMAL TABLE Special occasions often require a more formal table than the traditional five-piece place setting. Luckily, the modern art of table setting is quite simple once you understand a few basics. You begin eating a meal by using the flatware at the outside left and right, and then work toward the plate as the meal proceeds. Stemware is set above and to the right of the dinner plate; bread-and-butter plates sit above the plate. Flatware should align with the bottom rim of the charger, a large plate, which will be removed after everyone spreads his napkin on his lap. The water glass stands above the dinner knife, white wine to its right, and red wine top centre. Napkin rings may be used as a festive decoration.

BUFFET TIPS There are no rules governing the layout of a buffet, but an efficient setup and well-considered menu choices will keep food fresh and guests happy. Stack plates at the head of the table and silverware and napkins at the end. Arrange the table so guests can access food from both sides. Start with the main courses; for accompanying condiments, put one bowl on each side of the serving dish. Next come the sides; rather than using spoons and forks, provide nice-looking tongs, which will allow guests to serve themselves easily while holding a plate. For hot foods, heat platters first. Place cold foods on ice. (Dont put all the food out at once; refresh the buffet as needed.) Keep dessert in the kitchen until after the main meal.

A slice of wedding cake concludes your special day, but if you love desserts, why stop there? Follow international trends and have a dessert buffet. Organise the buffet around a theme to create a unified look and this will help narrow down the choices of what to include. While many of the desserts can be catered pastries and baked goods, part of the fun is finding store-bought goodies such as truffles, sweets and lollipops. For mouth-watering presentations, set the table with both grand confections and bitesize goodies; guests will surely love sampling from such a tempting display. And of course, you can still serve that stunning wedding cake. In fact, serve more than one!
