I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils are expected to: 1. Define fraction; 2. Familiarize the function of numerator and denominator in fraction; 3. Read and write correct fraction:

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Fraction Reference: Moving on with mathematics. by: Elsie T. Torreno, Jeana D Marasigan, Elena B.Morales Lilybeth B. Roy, Dalrose anne C. Sambo and Carolina T. Tirona Materials: Real objects flashcard, jumbled letters. Values: Kindness

III. Learning Activities

Teachers Activities A. Preparation

Students Activity

Class who is the leader for today? Kindly lead the prayer.

News for today? Today is Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012 And what is the weather outside? Its a sunny day. Alright. The weather today is a Sunny day. Let sing the weather song.

What is the weather, the weather today(2x) today is a sunny day. Sunny Sunny Sunny Day(3x) Today is a sunny Day

What is the weather today? Sunny day.

1. Energizer Lets play Jericho Jerusalem as energizer.

2. Review What is our last topic in math?

Very good. Yesterday we studied about word problem using subtraction. So class what is subtraction?

Our last topic in math is all about word problem using subtraction.

Very Good. Subtraction is taking away process. Subtraction is taking away process. I have here an exercise. all you have to do is to solve the word problem using subtraction.

I. Mom has 8 apples in a basket She gave 2 apples to Cathy. How many apples were left in the basket?

1. What is asked?

Number of apples left.

2. What are given?

8 and 2 apples. 3. What operation should be used? Subtraction. 4. What is the number sentence? 8-2=? 5. What is the answer? 6 apples.

B. Developmental Skills.

1. Motivation I have here a jumbled letters All you have to do is to rearranged These letters to form a word.

N T I O F R A I need two volunteers here in front to arrange the letters.

First clue: it is a part of a whole Which is divided into equal parts? FRACTION. Very Good.

2. Presentation

Kids what is the word that your classmates have formed?

Fraction.

Very good. And what do you think is our topic for today? Our topic for today is all about fraction.

2. Discussion Today we will study fraction. lets define first fraction. Fraction is a part of a whole Which is divided into equal parts? Again class what is fraction? Fraction is a part of a whole which is divided into equal parts. Very Good.

A fraction has two parts the numerator and the denominator. Again class what are the two parts of a fraction?

The two parts of fraction is the numerator and the denominator. Very good .Numerator tells the part that is taken. What is the numerator again kids? Numerator tells the part that is taken. Very good. And the denominator tells into how many parts the whole is divided. What is denominator again class? Denominator tells into how many parts the whole is divided.

Very good. For example I have here an orange fruit. How many oranges do I have?

1 orange. Very good. We have one orange. Now I will slice this orange into halves and this will become a . One is the number of orange and 2 is the number of halves when I slice the orange and these two halves have equal parts. Therefore 1 is the numerator and 2 is the denominator. This is read as one half.

I have here another example, I have here a cake I will going to slice this cake into four parts .So kids what is the numerator?

Numerator is 1. Because 1 is the number of cake that we have sliced. And what is the denominator? Denominator is 4. Very good 4 because the cake was divided into 4 equal parts. And the fraction is read as one fourth.

Another example, I have here a whole pizza. I will slice the pizza.

How many pizzas do we have? One pizza.

And how many slices of pizza do we have now?

8 slices of pizza.

Very good. How do we write in fraction? 1/8. Very good. 1/8 because we only have 1 whole pizza and we just sliced it into 8 equal parts. We also have 1/3.there are 3 equal parts that are divided in 1/3.

Again kids how many equal parts were divided in 1/3?

There are 3 equal parts in 1/3.

Very good. We also have 1/6.

How many equal parts were divided in 1/6?

There are 6 equal parts in 1/6. Very good. And how about in 1/10?

10 equal parts.

Very good. And why do we have to study fraction? What is the used of fraction in our daily life?

In fraction we learned to be kind to others because we share what we have.

Very good fraction teaches us to be kind for example your friend has no baon and you have a bread and sometimes we cut it into halves and gave to our friend. Thats why we learned to be kind to our classmates because we shared what we have.

C. Generalization

Class what have you learned in our lesson today. I learned today how to divide the whole into equal parts.

Very good. Is there another answer?

I have learned today the parts of the fraction the numerator and denominator

Very good. Any other answer?

I have learned today the value of sharing.

Very good.

D. Application

I have here a picture that has a different equal parts all you have to do is to place these pictures according to their correct fractions

1/2 1/3 1/4 1/5 1/6 1/8 1/10

1/2

1/3

1/4

1/5

1/6

1/8

1/10

F. Evaluation Under your tables I place a test paper; all you have to do is to answer the question that is given about fraction.

DIRECTION: Ring the object that shows equal parts.

DIRECTION: Identify the parts of a fraction. Write N if it is numerator D if it is denominator.

1.

12 14 1 81 316

2.

3.

4.

5.

DIRECTION: Ring the object that shows equal parts.
