COMMANDERS CORNER Col. William J. Moran, NHW Commander I want to wish every CAP member the very best for this holiday season. Please remember those who are less fortunate or are ill this season. We had a great 2010 with many very successful missions and cadet accomplishments. Cadet Opportunity and Emergency Services remain our primary focus. Your volunteer time is a special gift and I deeply appreciate your valuable time given to CAP and NH Wing. Three phrases that sum up the holidays are: Peace on Earth, Goodwill to Men and Batteries not included. Author unknown. SOCIAL ELECTRONIC MEDIA NH CAP is now on Facebook--see New Hampshire Wing Civil Air Patrol. We will use the page to inform you of events and deadlines such as cadet NCSA applications which are due Jan 15th. 2Lt Shannon Blain is the page administrator. If you have an event or information that belongs on Facebook, contact Shannon. One other note about Facebook, CAP is a non-profit corporation, and to keep our tax free status we must remain apolitical. We request that if you can not remain apolitical that you remove any mention of CAP from your own Facebook page. Also every CAP flight is a mission and members who fly in a CAP aircraft must be aware of their duties. I know there is an excitement to flying, but professional mission aircrews must comply with all regulations and as Tony Kern (author of Flight Disipline) sayscompliance starts with self discipline. One more thing!! Put that angry email into the draft box and let it stew for a few hours. I am sure you will rewrite it before you hit send. SAFETY SURVEY IS DUE IN JANUARY LOGISTICS AUDITS JANMARCH 2011

SQUADRON NEWS
Submitted by Individual Units

CONCORD SQUADRON Members participated in the Wreaths Across America program by holding a ceremony at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord where they also placed sponsored wreaths on veterans graves. The squadron color guard also participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremony at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen on the same day and they were very impressive. GREATER NASHUA SQUADRON Squadron members again participated in with Moore Mart in packing gifts for deployed troops. The squadron sponsored wreaths and held a ceremony at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brookline as well as laid wreaths at two other small cemeteries. HAWK SQUADRON Wreaths were sponsored for Bayside Cemetery in Laconia by Hawk Squadron members. HIGHLANDERS CADET SQUADRON The squadron participated in several Veterans Day ceremonies. Maj Barrington and one cadet joined the group of CAP members at the NH State Veterans Cemetery for the Wreaths Across America program as well as sponsoring wreaths as well. The squadron now has a cadet asst. PAO who is doing a newsletter for the squadron personnel. LEBANON SQUADRON Lt Mike Balog participated in the Veterans Day ceremonies in Lebanon. The squadron has a new Historian who is also a member of the Lebanon Historical Society. This should be a boon for the squadron in saving their history. Lt. Balog is attending college working on his associate in Fine Arts degree in photography. Lt Brian George is hoping to participate more fully again now that his wife is in better health since her heart transplant last year. Former cadet Christian Berchbuhl who is home from the USAFA was planning to be at the Christmas party on the 27th and will give the cadets an update of life at the Air Force Academy. Eleven new cadets have recently joined the squadron. MONADNOCK SQUADRON Things have been pretty quiet at Monadnock Squadron this fall. A small holiday party was held just before Christmas. MANCHESTER CADET SQUADRON The squadron is pleased to welcome 10 new cadets and two new senior members recently. A large group of cadets attended the glider activities at Springfield, VT on Oct 23 and 24. All had a great time. SEACOAST SQUADRON A house warming party was held at the new home of Capt Cote in No Berwick. Capt Washington has taken on the job of DCC for the squadron as Capt Lambert wishes to focus more on ES. Maj Hall will again be the DO with Capt Casian as assistant. Members marched in the So. Berwick Christmas parade. The squadron was a major sponsor of wreaths for the NH State Veterans Cemetery in

Boscawen this year providing 81 wreaths as well as providing two cadets to help lay the wreaths on the graves. Seacoast again adopted a family of a deployed service member to provide a food basket, supermarket gift certificates and toys for the child in the family. A very well attended Christmas party was held the third week of December. Planning is underway to change the meeting schedule to a 13 week format. WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA 2010 New Hampshire Civil Air Patrol members Col Bill Moran, Ltc Nic Goupil, Capt. BlainCote, and CaptRobert Godin escorted the convoy of wreaths, motorcyclists, members of Maine wing and others from the Kittery Trading Post to Hampton Legion Hall and Hampton Beach which is the full extent of Rt 1 in New Hampshire on Monday December 6th. They said it was an amazing sight. The year 2010 marked the fifth year that NH Wing has coordinated the WAA ceremony at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. It was also I think only the second warmish and snowless ceremony. This year was the first time since 2006 that NH Wing members had sponsored wreaths for Boscawen and we received 210 wreaths to adorn the graves in Section 1 of the cemetery with the Blue Star Mothers doing the rest of the 1,125 graves. Thank you to cadets Stephen Merrill and Jarrod Freeman of Seacoast Composite Squadron who came to help lay wreaths along with Capt. Godin and Col Hardy. A first and welcome addition to the event was the lunch provided by the members of the USO who also provided coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Prior to the ceremony CAP provided a fly-over with Ltc Walter Brown at the controls. Col Bill Moran our commander was the M/C, the Concord Color Guard did an excellent job with that detail and a larger number of CAP members than in previous years attended, which was appreciated. Uniformed members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard each laid a ceremonial wreath adorned with an American flag and the flag of their branch of the service on the markers around the center flagpole. Former Merchant Marine Rodman Wilson, and former POA Allan Gavin then laid wreaths for their respective organizations. I have had the pleasure of coordinating this event at the NH State Veterans Cemetery for the past five years and I deeply appreciate the support I have received from NH Wing members during that time. I am hoping to turn this project over to someone else for 2011. Maj. Penny H. Hardy NH Location Leader--Boscawen

RED RIBBON WEEK EVENTS IN OCTOBER Ltc Mary Ann Croker our wing DDR administrator had a hand in coordinating the great Red Ribbon Week response this year in New Hampshire. Formations of students wearing red were held at the following schools. Spaulding, Hudson, Hollis-Brookline, Merrimack, Litchfield, Sandown and Sanborn. This is the first year that NH Wing has worked with the NH National Guard to get the schools involved. A CAP aircraft overflew all these schools with Capt. Red Wheeler taking photos as they went. It was an amazing sight to see all these students in red on their school grounds in the shape of a ribbon.
