MAR 21

2012

Dear Parents
Last week I had the privilege of taking our swim team to the Southern Zone swim meet at Tokanui. They competed strongly and represented our school, and themselves, with pride. Thank you also to Bronagh Hegan, Neil Jamieson, Deborah Beck and Tom & Debbie Marshall for helping to provide transport. (Tom got to give the Triumph Stag a good run too!) Next week is the second of our parent workshops. Our focus next Wednesday night is investigating the impact digital learning has on the achievement and learning process for our children - ie why do we use technology? We are planning to include a classroom tour, an interactive video which examples real life learning in action, interviews with students and lots of robust discussion! A safe, relaxed, interactive workshop discussion opportunity with refreshments! We look forward to seeing you at 7.30 next week in the staffroom. Regards

Week 8 Term 1
MANUKA (R6) have been learning about healthy food choices and the virtues of getting plenty of sleep to get a good balance in life. We have been working on a 'can do' attitude and all pitching in to keep our class environment organised and ready for learning. Please could you help by naming childrens clothing. We spend a lot of time finding the owner of stray bits of clothing so this would help greatly. Certificates: Seren for a fantastic start to school and Peyton for having a wonderful friendly smile and great learning attitude. KOWHAI (R2) have been learning a lot about our four walls this week. We have been talking about the food pyramid, and the how the food choices we make help keep us healthy. Our whanau wall is growing as we hear about everyones families and the special things we do together. We can say how we feel in maori- ask your child "Kei te pehea koe?"(How are you feeling?). A,E,I,O,U - we are all aiming to know the short vowel sounds and use them accurately in our reading and writing. RIMU (R3) Room Rimu were very excited on Thursday as some of us were here to watch our last butterfly hatch out of its chrysalis. It happened just after school had finished which meant that most of the children had left for home however, those who got to see were amazed to watch it emerge. The next day we all took turns to let it crawl across our hands. It tickles said Amelia. Certificates: Sarah Hay, Lachlan Riley RATA (R4) This week we are learning about expressing how we feel. We have learnt about body language and 'I statements'. Our school goal is to use great manners and this week our class is learning how to interrupt. Here are our steps, 1.Gain eye contact 2. Say excuse me and wait. It would be great if you could help your child to do this. Thanks Evelyn Certificates Harriet Stevens, Mackenzie Robertson MIRO (R5) Our cloak bay challenge to keep our area tidy is going well, with students taking more care and responsibility with their belongings. You may have noticed extra clothing coming home as we ensure we are fully packed up for the day. Great work Miro:-) In maths we have been working on using strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems. As part of our homework we would like to share a strategy that we are learning. Please look out for a demonstration on a maths strategy on our blog. Miro are on assembly this week and look forward to seeing you there. Have a great week. TOTARA (R7) Team Totara have been working hard in maths with our Statistics. We have been busy collecting data and displaying it in handwritten and computer generated graphs. It is interesting reading the graphs to make conclusions about the information that has been collated! We are still thinking deeply about the Value of Self Improvement and how this translates into our every day tasks. KAURI (R8) We're learning about the Hauora Model in class. I've learned that there are four different sides of your well being. Aidan We've started making our Passion Project Blogs. I really like having something else that we can write about. My blog's about swimming and sports. I hope I get lots of posts on it and that my Mum and Dad comment on it! I want to get thirty followers Sophie W Assembly Duty 23rd March: Miro
