Global grub

THE world came to dinner last Thursday as Stewards School held their annual cultural food event. Now in its fifth year, the event, run by the schools Ethnic Minority Pupil Voice (EMPV) group, invites staff, students and their parents to sample dishes from around the globe. Guests packed the school hall and sampled cuisine from America, India, Poland, Australia and Bosnia, among many others, which had all been prepared by students and staff. Deputy headteacher Marie Erwood said she was blown away by the turn out.

Five hurt in Harlow minibus crash

FIVE people had to be taken to hospital following a minibus crash in Harlow on Tuesday morning. The East of England Ambulance Service was called to Canes Lane shortly before 9.30am following reports of a collision between a minibus and a stationary coach. Three ambulances and a rapid response car were sent to the scene where ambulance staff examined nine people, who were all passengers on the minibus. Ambulance service manager Ann Trow said: There were nine people in the minibus when the collision occurred and we checked over all of them at the scene. Two of them had potential spinal injuries so were immobilised on spinal boards and taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH). A further three patients were taken to PAH with minor injuries. The remaining four people did not need hospital treatment so were discharged from the scene. GET the latest news irst by visiting at www.scene irst.co.uk

Support my big swim

IT HAS been an important week in Parliament and I have been working hard. On Monday I asked the Government about the problems of incapacity bene its, after being contacted by local charity Employ-Ability. Their response was positive, promising to make sure that work will always pay. On November 6, I will be doing my third sponsored swim for the Harlow Alzheimers Society. I will be starting the swim at 7.30am in the Park Inn Hotel swimming pool, Southern Way, Harlow. I would be so delighted if anyone would like to come down and support and make sure that I beat my previous record of 2hr 19min non-stop. My aim is to raise as much

money as possible for Harlow Alzheimers Society which is a fantastic local charity that supports both those with Alzheimers and their carers. On another note, we are counting down the days to the 2012 Olympics and I want to encourage the people of Harlow to be as involved as they possibly can. We are in such a great location, close to the Olympic stadium for all the action, close to Stansted Airport where many of the

teams will be flying in, and close to London where a lot of the tourists will be heading. Therefore, I wanted to inform you that you have until midnight on October 27 to register as a volunteer for the Olympics 2012. It will be a once in a lifetime experience to be part of history in this country, as well as being a fun and sociable experience. I wish you all the best of luck with your application. If any of you have any ideas as to how we might best make the most of the Olympics in Harlow, I would be delighted to hear your suggestions and make sure we put Harlow on the map in 2012.
