HOPE is faith in the immutable promise that miracles prevail when the darkness tries to winout withcries of despair. Hope is a gift from God that helps us yearn, and live a life that believes and moves with the pledge of a better tomorrow. And whatsmore, hopesprings forth resurrectionlife, and draws us near to the love of Christ, whoisthelight of God who walked out fromthegrave tomake the wayforeverlastinglife. Easter Sunday celebrates the rebirth of life eternal thatilluminatesthe light of hope, which perpetually shines upon the soul. For as hedidthen,Godeternal stillcallsforthdespairfrom the darkness, into his Spirits resurrection light. For truly, what is this day, if not one that dawns hope eternal, in the glory of Jesus resurrection light?(JasonBonnicksen)

HOLY WEEK APRIL 1 - 7

the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. 2 The Word was with God in the beginning. 3 Everything came into being through the Word, and without the Word nothing came into being. What came into being 4 through the Word was life, and the life was the light for all people. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness doesnt extinguish the light (John 1:1-5 CEB)

Drama is what we do!

The greatest message one can communicate is the love of God and the Good News of Jesus Christ; and there is perhaps no more powerful way to communicate that message than through the medium of drama. Since 1963, Covenant Players has pioneered the modern use of live drama as a communications resource for the church. With over 3,000 plays in the Covenant Players' repertoire, they will bring a life-changing message of hope. A special love offering will be taken for the players in addition to our regular offering. Please come prepared.

The First UMC Leadership Team met on March 21, 2012 at 7:00 pm in the Overflow room around the new conference table. Those present included Kurt Childs, Lay Leader: Jerry Richecky, Kevin Johnson, Stacia Piroutek, Mikel Hadachek, Janis Houdek, Kim VanNortwick, Susie Arbuthnot, Tandy Rundus, Susan Childs and Pastor Lennie. Our meeting began with prayer and a loving time discussing making disciples for the transformation of the world. During our learning time, we reviewed what we learned at the Vital Congregation workshop in McPherson in February. We reviewed the treasurers report, which included that 1/2 of our apportionment's for 2012 have been paid. By consensus, the Leadership Team agreed that the Food Stand Task Force would continue as the Food Stand Building Committee. We also approved for the Food Stand Committee to open a new checking account for the purpose of only building donations and payments for actual building costs of the Food Stand. Education leader, Tandy Rundus, reported that, with help from SPRC, a candidate has been interviewed for an Education Ministry Coordinator position. As one of the SMART goals of the church this year, the Education Team is actively pursuing someone to help out with the youth and with some curriculum needs. It was also announced that VBS will be from July 9-13th this year. The Alternative Worship leader, Mikel Hadachek, reported on the Outside the Box worship service. A thorough discussion ensued about how to help make the service more appealing and a better experience for future attendees. Mikel started on a work plan for the service to help further our second SMART goal of reaching the unchurched through a worship setting. It is a very exciting time for the church with everything we have going on. Many teams reported on the events that are coming up and I hope you continue to watch the calendar and don't be afraid to ask if you don't know when something is going on. We will be planning a going away event for Lennie and Carolyn, and hopefully, we will find a good time to meet our new pastor, Emily, in the near future. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. In Christ's Love, Kurt Childs, Lay Leader

The Zimbabwe Chabadza delegates from Africa will be in Kansas in May, and well be hosting them in Belleville for a few days. Help us welcome them to our area and take this opportunity to join with them in worship and praise. They will be sharing their message with us. Come for a MEAL at 5:30 pm on May 6 and stay for the Outside the Box Service at 6:30 pm. Bring a free-will offering for your meal to help with travel expenses for the Zimbabwe delegation. The Kansas West Conference encourages each district to raise $2,000 in assistance. PLEASE COME BE SUPPORTIVE!

Acts 20:35 In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'

Lets celebrate Spring in service! We will be making May baskets for those in the care centers and any others who are unable to get out, cleaning up yards for those in need, and possibly some flower planting. If you know of anyone who needs their yard cleaned in the Belleville area (i.e. leaves racked, gutters cleaned, bushes trimmed) please contact the Church office by April 27th so we can have a list of those we need to go serve on the 29th. Be listening in the upcoming weeks for more details on how we can work together to have another successful MissionStatement: Everyone Serve Sunday. Let Earth Day 2012 Inspire You! On April 22, more than one billion people around the globe will participate in Earth Day 2012 and help Mobilize the Earth. People of all nationalities and backgrounds will voice their appreciation for the planet and demand its protection. Earth day is meant to inspire the public to take better care of the environment and learn to take pride in the environment. The original Earth Day was used as a teaching day to get the public more informed about the environmental impact humans were making. Since then, the basic message of the day is the same, but it has been taken much further. Since this original celebration, Earth Day has become an international holiday. Several environmental groups have also started participating in an Earth week. During this week, these organizations host several different programs that educate their communities about the different aspects of Earth and how to take better care of Earth. STAND UNITED...DO YOUR PART!

No Sunday School (Joans class) on April 1 or April 8. We will resume study of Images of Christ with a study of Jesus as The Light of the World on April 15. In the following weeks, we will see Jesus as the Bridegroom, Head of the Church, Bread of Life, and the Cornerstone. It is our hope that these studies will bring us closer to Christ through the pictures the Bible paints in words. Join us at 9:30 am in the Overflow. Joan Grover...Teacher

First, I love the bulletin board each month in the foyer. I hope everyone is taking time to really look at them. April will be UMW's turn and I hope to have much information, again, up there. Second, as prayer messenger from our church on the district prayer messenger group, along with Shirley and Jerry Richecky, we have been asked to have people from our church write prayers for Annual Conference on 4X6" cards that we have. These will be posted on a board designated for this at the conference site. They want these from 2nd graders thru young adults. We will have parents sign an OK slip for putting them on the board if their child writes one. During JAM time, Tandy is going to help youngsters write some if they so choose. These are to be sent to Joy Hart by May 7. We have asked several to consider doing this. If you have not been asked, and care to do so, please contact Richecky's or myself. Also, please turn your card in to me before that date. Encourage your child to think about what they might want to write, you write too. Third, The Definition - Annual Conference, written by Pastor Troy Bowers, in this letter is: "The Annual conference is a three-day event where pastors and church leaders gather to: Worship, Pray, Renew friendships, Celebrate what God has done this past year in our churches and communities, and Make decisions about where we feel God is leading our church in the future." This year our Annual Conference gathering will be at the Hutchinson Fairgrounds on May 23-25. APRIL GENERAL Please enlist all persons in your Church Family to pray about this. What an empowering blessing will MEETING be received from this wondrous gift of prayer. "The prayer of a righteous (person) is powerful and Thursday, April 5 effective." James 5:16 Fourth--This is from a missionary for whom our UMW chose to pray during one month this past 1:30 pm year. She, so kindly, keeps me posted on some of her happenings. She is now visiting in the USA for 3 months. Our UMW chooses a name each month out of the Prayer Calendar book to email, pray for, Hostesses and Program: and send greetings to. It has been very rewarding for us. We were also praying for a couple in At-Large Members Zimbabwa not long before our own three went over there on a mission trip. We'll be seeing some of the Zimbabwa people here in this area in May too. March 15, 2012, Dear Friends and Family, I was still in Macedonia for the celebration of World Day of Prayer on March 2. It was a lovely worship service with fellowship time afterwards. Nearly all of CIRCLE MEETINGS our churches participated, along with women from the Catholic and Orthodox churches. Please see SUSANNAH photos on the web site: http://list.gbgm-umc.org/t/4236413/1113289/1271/0/ <http://list.gbgm-umc.org/t/ Tuesday, April 3 4236413/1113289/1271/0/> . March 4 was the first Sunday of Lent for us in Macedonia. In Strumica, 3:30 pm the teenagers read the liturgy and extinguished the first purple candle. As of March 7, I am in the US, Overow at the church! speaking at various churches. Im grateful for these opportunities to share about my work and the work Hostess: Shirley Tallent of the UMC in Macedonia and to thank the churches for their support of missions. Gifts to missions are Lesson: Helen Fielder essential to keep missionaries like me in the field, sharing the Gospel message. The churches that I visit are so welcoming and gracious that I almost forget I am on the road for three months. Lee is at home in Macedonia. So far he has reported snow, rain and now (at RUTH last) signs of spring. I miss him, but I am glad to know that all is in good hands there. My next Wednesday, April 4 destination is Virginia (Hampton, Annandale and Arlington), then West Virginia and Indiana. 7:30 pm I will be in northern California for Easter. May your Easter season be truly blessed. "Our Hostess: Lynell Kallman friends, we want you to know what God's grace has accomplished in the churches in Overow at the church! Macedonia." 2 Corinthians 8:1 (GNB) Carol Partridge GBGM Missionary United Methodist Church Strumica, R Macedonia Fifth, we have one girl going on METour from our church family. Crystal Young has decided NAOMI to go and I want all of you to praise her for this decision and to support her in prayers and Wednesday, April 25 money. We will try to get a list of supplies the METour group will want to take with them for the 7:30 pm people they will be trying to help. So watch for that and plan to contribute for Crystal. Also, Program: Wilma Dove please pray for the VIM team who will be traveling later to New Mexico. Our UMW members Hostess: Joan Grover make baby blankets, lap throws, etc. that are used during the year in many ways. We Co-Hostess: Neva Lee will be sending the most recently-made ones with this group. If you have any please let Janet Heyka know about them. We also have at least two youth signed up for summer camp! Sixth, I hope you all who had prayer partners this past year have remembered to let your partner know who it was that has been praying for them for the year. Valentines In April, Day ended our year, but you can continue your prayers for them at all times. At-Large Members Seventh, Joan Molzahn would like for UMW members to bring a small to are responsible for checking medium-sized cross (one that has a special meaning for you) with you to kitchen supplies, the April 5th UMW meeting. Her lesson will be using these as we study cleaning both kitchens and pray. and sharpening pencils in the Sanctuary! In Christian Love, Janis Houdek, UMW President

Share an Easter Lily for Easter Sunday given in memory of, or in honor of, a loved one. Schedule your flower(s) to arrive to the church by Wednesday, April 4 by 11:30 am! Or, rather than an Easter Lily, consider this instead . . . Make a donation to the Worship Team to help purchase supplies needed to decorate our Altar in all the beautiful and meaningful designs we enjoy every Sunday.

The Republic County Cancer Society is planning another I Scream 4 Hope evening in place of the former Relay for Life. It will be held on June 2nd at the City Park. Homemade ice cream and cookies will be served at 5:30 pm under the new shelter building and entertainment and the recognizing of our survivors will follow at the band pavilion. I would like to ask for volunteers to help make either ice cream or cookies. Call Joan Grover at 527-5379 if you can help. Cancer has affected too many of our families. Help us show support for them on this special recognition evening.

One of the projects the Trustees want to accomplish this year is to replace the Kiosk in the front lawn of the church. The current Kiosk is very weathered and has loose bricks; the cross and some of the bricks will be reused along with new materials. The overall shape will remain the same with a digital sign replacing the letter board. We have researched several options and decided to go with an updated version of the familiar design. As the Trustees have many repairs and improvements to the church, Parsonage and grounds already, the Kiosk project will be funded only by donations and pledges. To date, 60% of the funds have been obtained. We are asking for your support to reach Our Goal and once 100% of the funds are raised, we will start the project. We would graciously accept any donation to the project, which is tax deductible and will be reported on your individual giving record at the end of 2012. Once the project is scheduled, the Trustees would be grateful for any assistance you could offer. For more information please contact Jay Kallman, Trustee Chair @ (785) 527-5951 or (785) 527-3585.
