Dear Parents

School and then was a huge help as I took on my first Principalship at Millers Flat. I remember the first morning, before I had to teach in the afternoon, sitting in the Principals office wondering - just where do I start?!? I appreciated all of Peters advice and wisdom and his encouragement of my principalship as I moved to Myross Bush, and I regret in the busy life of school in December I did not know of his passing. A very special person. Regards

Tonight is the second workshop for

you, our parents, as we try to 'unpack' with you some of what school is doing. You may have seen the 'taster' video on the website?!? Tonight we are looking at how learning happens in our classroom with a specific focus on the impact of digital learning has on the achievement and learning process for our children - ie why do we use technology? We are planning to include a classroom tour, an interactive video which examples real life learning in action, interviews with students and lots of robust discussion! A safe, relaxed,

interactive workshop discussion opportunity with refreshments! We look forward to seeing you at 7.30 tonight in the staffroom. Last Saturday I read in the ODT on the obituaries page an article on the life and contribution of Peter King, a long time educator in Southland and Otago who died last December in Dunedin. I wanted to give a brief reflection and acknowledgment as Peter King was very supportive of me in my management roles before coming to Myross Bush. He supported and encouraged me in my role as Deputy Principal at Clyde

Week 9 Term 1
MANUKA (R6) would like to celebrate our learning on healthy lifestyles by having a 'healthy houli' next Tuesday 3 April. We plan to make a vegetable soup and some fruit kebabs and would appreciate your help in providing 1 or 2 ingredients for these. A note will come home on Friday with suggestions that the children come up with. It could be an interesting recipe! We would love you to join us later in the day on Tuesday from 2pm as we retell the traditional tale 'Stone Soup'. We are also designing healthy lunch boxes this week with a focus on good choices for sandwich fillings. Check out our blog next week for these great tips. Certificates Finn Pearce and Charlotte Dassen for fantastic starts to their school days. KOWHAI (R2) are talking about the healthy choices we can make to keep our bodies healthy and ready for learning. To celebrate, we will have a 'Healthy Houli' next Thursday, 5th April. We will make a stone soup' and ask for 1 or 2 ingredients to be sent along from home - details of these will be sent home soon. Thank you for your family pictures - our whanau wall looks great! The children are busy practicing their mihi's and are getting more confident every day. Certificate: Amilea Sparrow RIMU (R3) As part of our Inquiry this term we have learned a lot about what we need to keep us healthy like good food, sleep and exercise. We have also been learning about the importance of our families and friends. We are making koru pictures that represent our families and how they care for us. Come in and have a look at the whare and read the walls that show our learning journey so far. Certificates: Poppy O'Keefe, Ollie Lemin RATA (R4) This week we have been learning about how to receive a certificate. This is what to do; 1. Make eye contact 2. Smile and shake hands 3. Say thank you. We are learning about how to get along with others. In pairs we have planned and painted a picture that shows friendship. The rules were that we both had to agree to the design and we could only work on our half of the paper. This week we are leading assembly and would love to have you come along to support us. We will write our script on Thursday so that we can practise reading it at home. MIRO (R5) It is nearing the end of term and Miro are reflecting on their effort and progress with their goals. This is a great time to celebrate our success whether big or small. Miro are also making some amazing progress with their individual skills project. We have made a video showing off our new skill of tying our shoelaces. Anneka & Holly I like to improve my gym skills. Danja I am getting better at forward rolls into a flip. Jayden I like to ride my scooter and practise a tail whip. Timothy Certificate: Bailey Pike, Daniel McKenzie TOTARA (R7) We are busy thinking about Te Whare Tapawha and how balanced we are in our lives in each of the areas. Our skills inquiry project to self improvement is well on the way and some people are discovering the aspect of "stamina and stickability" a more challenging concept than they initially thought! We are all showing great progress though and our reflection skills are also deepening and becoming more effective. What a clever and focused group! Team Totara Certificates: Aidan McAra and Thomas Lemin for making a great effort to be the best that they can be and make progress on the Independent License! Well done! KAURI (R8) have nearly completed our skills projects for March. This is where we practise one new skill for a month to get better at what we've learnt in our inquiry this term - 'Self Improvement.' We're looking forward to showing you on video how much we've progressed. I'm also sending home a 'self improvement celebration sheet' next week. Each student will be able to share with you how much they've improved at their spelling, basic facts and Word Wizz skills. We would love your support to try and pass a couple of more steps and levels before next week!
