9:30-2:30 in the PLC and Church We conclude our Lenten Parish Renewal with a retreat on April 28, 2012. This is a half day retreat focusing on how to respond to Gods promise made to us, I will always be with you. The first half of the day begins with prayer, discussion, and followed with lunch and Adoration. All parishioners are invited to the retreat whether you participated in the small groups or not. This is a wonderful way to commence the Easter Season. We need musicians, lectors, prayer leaders, and kitchen help for the retreat. Please contact Eileen Maggiore by email at eileen@ctklombard.org. Dear Friends in Christ, Please join our parish staff and clergy on this journey through Holy Week. This is a final opportunity to gather in prayer before the Feast of the Resurrection. It is important to bring your children, grandchildren to these days of prayer. Give the gift of faith to our young parishioners. Let us take this Palm Sunday to invite your neighbors and family members who have been away from the Church for awhile. Extending the invitation tells them we care. The staff, clergy and I look forward to praying with you. Thank you for the many ways you have blest our staff, we hope that in some little way, we have changed your life and brought you closer to God! God bless you! ~~~~~ Rev. Peter P. Year of the Eucharist 2010-2011 Holy Week Observances Thursday, April 5 Good Friday, April 6 Holy Saturday, April 7
April 1, 2012
HOLY THURSDAY: Institution of the Eucharist. An important element will be the washing of feet, which honors the Lord's command to love and serve one another. All those who wish to do so will be invited to have their feet washed and to wash someone else's feet, so plan accordingly and come with shoes that are easy to remove. At the end of the service, we will process with the Blessed Sacrament to the altar of repose. You are invited to remain and spend some time in adoration. We begin at 7:30pm, and adoration will continue until 10:30pm in the Parish Life Center. GOOD FRIDAY: Good Friday's mood is not a "requiem" for Jesus, but a reflection on the paschal sacrifice of the Lord of glory. On this day the centerpiece of the solemn liturgy is the reflective listening to the Passion of St. John's Gospel which presents Jesus as the sovereign king who willingly lays down his life for those he loves. On this day we venerate not the figure of the crucified, but the cross as the symbol of victory and salvation. On this day we solemnly present our lenten intentions for our broken brothers and sisters throughout the entire world. Silence plays an important part on this day; we begin and end in sacred silence. There is no entrance procession because we are continuing the Triduum liturgy begun the day before on Holy Thursday. There is no recessional because this Triduum liturgy will continue and conclude the next night with the Easter Vigil. All three are one liturgy, each day focusing on one aspect of the Paschal Mystery which brought about our salvation. The service on Good Friday was once called Mass of the Pre-sanctified. In reality it is a communion service, not a Mass at all since there is no consecration and all receive Eucharist from hosts consecrated on Holy Thursday. The communion rite, therefore, is done with the greatest simplicity. On this day of the Lord's Passion it is almost as though everything we do is done with greater reverence, attention and devotion. The simple refrain from the day says it best: "Behold, behold the wood of the Cross on which is hung our salvation. O come, let us adore." Our Good Friday liturgy begins at 7:30pm. EASTER VIGIL: The Vigil of Easter is a day of emptiness. The church waits at the Lord's tomb. The altar is bare, the church is empty. Mass is not celebrated. Even the Vigil celebration has the feeling of prayerful waiting. The Vigil celebration is begun only after nightfall. This is not an anticipated Sunday Mass, but a vigil in the strictest sense. The Service begins with LIGHT. The Easter fire is blessed. The Paschal Candle is lit, carried to its place of honor, and the great Easter proclamation, the Exsultet, is sung. The next major part of this service is the WORD. On this most holy night the story of our salvation is retold and slowly we approach the message of great joy: the Alleluia! The Gospel announcing the good news of resurrection is proclaimed and a homily is shared. The third part of the service is perhaps the highlight: WATER. All of Lent we have been reflecting on the process of initiation for our adult candidates in the RCIA process. This is the night that we bless the Easter water, we profess our faith, we baptize our catechumens, and we renew our own Baptism through the ritual of sprinkling. Confirmation, a sacrament separated from Baptism for most of us, is celebrated as part of this rite of initiation. The final section of the Vigil is EUCHARIST. The newly initiated bring bread and wine to the table where they will share Eucharist with us for the first time. The dismissal with its double alleluia is sung and thus begins the season of Easter: the great fifty days of celebration which will culminate with our celebration of the feast of Pentecost. Our Easter Vigil celebration begins at 7:30pm with the blessing of the Easter Fire. There will not be a 5:00pm on Saturday, April 7.

Novena for a Reversal of the HHS Mandate Lord God, You are the Author of Life and Freedom. In Your Spirit, we have the freedom of the children of God, and in Your Name, we promote the freedom of all to seek, embrace, and live the truth of Your Word. In that freedom, Lord, we your people stand with Life and reject whatever destroys life or distorts the meaning of human sexuality. In that freedom, Lord, we Your people live our lives in a way that advances Your Kingdom of Life, and we refuse to cooperate in what is evil. At this moment, therefore, when our government has decided to force us to cooperate in evil, we pray for the grace to be faithful to You and to oppose the unjust laws and mandates that have been imposed upon us and our institutions. We pray for the conversion of those in civil authority who fail to appreciate the demands of conscience. We pray for the complete reversal of all policies that permit the destruction of life or coerce the cooperation of Your people in practices that are wrong. Bring us to a Culture of Life. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
