REHEARSAL DIRECTOR 

Motionhouse Dance Theatre seeks a Rehearsal Director to teach company class and 
rehearse the company’s performance work throughout production and touring 
periods. Contract to commence in April 2009. Please apply by CV and covering

the week beginning 2 February and asked to attend an interview on Friday 6 
February in Leamington Spa. 

Scattered, our next mid­scale touring production, opens in Autumn 2009 and already 
has dates booked across the UK well into 2010. Following on from the enormous 
success of Underground and Chaser at street arts festival both in the UK and 
continental Europe, you will also be rehearsing and touring these pieces over the 
summer festival period. 

Job Description 

Main purpose of post: 
In line with the Company’s mission, to rehearse the performance work of Motionhouse 
Dance Theatre throughout production and touring periods and to teach regular 
Company class. To contribute to the delivery of other company activity as required. 

Duties:
· To work closely with the Artistic Director to plan and coordinate devising, rehearsal 
and performance schedules
· To work closely with and support the Artistic Director during the creative process
· To rehearse the company’s work and to maintain performance standards at the 
highest level
· To teach daily company class as necessary
· To assist with the Get­in and Get­out at performance venues as necessary
· To care for and ensure that any costume(s) and props are maintained in good and 
clean condition
· To support the company in Front of House and merchandise liaison at receiving 
venues
· To lead and support outreach activities as required on tour and in the local 
community
· To liaise with the administrative team to support the planning, coordination and 
implementation of touring schedules nationally and internationally
· To liaise with the company’s technical manager and technical staff of touring venues 
as appropriate to support the planning and coordination of technical rehearsals

· To be available for the recruitment and selection of dancers by attending auditions 
as required
· To write short feedback reports on workshop activities and projects as reasonably 
requested by the Artistic and Executive Directors
· To attend Company meetings
· Other reasonable duties as allocated by the Artistic or Executive Directors 

Person Specification 

Essential:
· Professional dance training
· Rehearsal, production and touring experience
· Experience of teaching within a professional environment
· Familiarity with the work of Motionhouse Dance Theatre
· Continuing involvement with professional dance
· Excellent organisation and communication skills
· Ambition to aim for the highest standards and to work flexibly and with dedication 
to assure they are achieved
· Ability to work effectively as a member of a creative team
· Can commit for the period April 2009 until at least June 2010
· Willing to relocate to Leamington Spa or nearby area
· Ability to cope with a busy schedule
· Full clean driving license
· Eligible to work in the UK
· Enhanced CRB Disclosure 

Desirable:
· Experience of rehearsal direction at professional level
· Knowledge of current choreographic and performance developments nationally and 
internationally 

Other information

· Salary £24,180 per annum (pro rata) plus per diems where applicable
· You will be a full PAYE employee, on a fixed term contract, with 28 days paid 
holiday per year (pro rata) 

Accountability
· The Rehearsal Director will report to the Artistic Director
