Parent/Teacher Conferences This is the time of year that teachers in grades prekindergarten through two (PreK-2) extend personal invitations to parents for parent-teacher conferences. The purpose of this end-of-year conference is to allow teachers and parents to discuss each childs strengths and areas that may need improvement as students transition to the next grade level and face new challenges. All grade levels are important but the first few years of school are critical in terms of developing foundational skills and habits that affect future learning. Parents at all grade levels are encouraged to request an end-ofyear conference. Please contact your childs teacher or contact the school office if you would like for us to coordinate a conference with several teachers at the same time. Pennies for Patients Wow! The attendance was outstanding and the event was extremely well organized, fun and successful! The auction cleared over $70,000 for the school. The money will be divided among instructional programs, athletic programs, and facility maintenance. As money is spent, parents will be informed so that you are aware of how your support of the auction is benefiting the school and our students. Again, thank you to everyone who was a part of Auction 2012. This type of parental and community involvement contributes greatly to the schools success, 46 year history and upstanding reputation. Please know that you are appreciated! All of the students (and staff, too!) are looking forward to spring break, April 2-6 and April 9. Hopefully, many of you will be able to enjoy some time off from your responsibilities, also. The school office will close when the school day for students ends on Friday, March 30 and will remain closed during the break. Coupon books contain discount coupons you may use when making purchases at a variety of retailers in the surrounding area. If you would like to purchase a book, please come to the school office or see any PTO Board Member. The PTO has a limited number of Tervis tumblers for sale, too. These tumblers feature the RWA emblem/mascot. The 24 ounce tumbler sells for $20.00 and the 16 ounce tumbler sells for $15.00. First and Second Grade Musical Program Once again parents and other guests will be treated to one of Mrs. Nicholsons famous musical programs. On Thursday, April 26 first and second graders will perform Salute to Disney at 9:00 A. M. in the fine arts room. Upcoming Field trips for Lower School Students Mrs. Schwartz and Mrs. Atkerson are looking forward to taking first and second graders to Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia on Friday, April 27. Watch for details and permission slips to be sent home soon! Our third graders will tour Fairfield County on Friday, April 20 and will participate in a luncheon at Honeysuckle Acres on Friday, April 27. The tour of Fairfield County is a way for the students to culminate their study of South Carolina History this year. Manners learned through the 4-H classes taught by Miss Allison Coleman will be practiced at the luncheon. Watch for details and permission slips to be sent home soon! Cap and Gown Pictures and Class Photograph Seniors will have their pictures taken in their graduation caps and gowns on Monday, April 30. The group picture will be taken at this time, also. Graduation Ceremony/Baccalaureate Service In addition to excitement about the prom, seniors are anxiously awaiting and anticipating graduation! The graduation ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 24 at 7:00 P. M. in the schools gymnasium. Senior class sponsors, Mrs. Missy Taylor and Mrs. Lore Gibbons, will contact parents of seniors with detailed information about the ceremony, rehearsals, and other expectations.
