Essay on Hindrance to Mankind Knowledge is power, a famous saying by Sir Francis Bacon has proved its significance for

a long time. Knowledge comes from learning, and education defines the process of learning. Illiteracy is the act of being uneducated, where people lead their life according to the knowledge they gain from what they see and experience in their life. Food, clothes, and shelter used to be the only fundamental needs of the people, but now the concept has changed as education and health are fundamental needs for human. It can be easily inferred the importance of reading and writing in the present world. People can be virtually thought as a blind for not being able to read and a dumb for not being able to write. Governments of almost all nations are donating funds and required materials to increase the literacy rate of the country, to head a country towards the development. People without education may find themselves completely lost in such a huge complex world. Illiteracy leads people to a lack of confidence, boredom and an unusual lifestyle, and, at the same time, illiteracy hampers the overall development of a nation. People come to know about something either by learning or by doing it, and everything in the world cannot be done practically, so it becomes obvious that illiterate people lack confidence in various matters where they need to act or decide. If they had education and even if they lack the knowledge about the certain subject, at that case they would have some confidence to solve the subject matter. Illiterate people have only seen the world around them and have a little knowledge of the surroundings only. They have to totally depend on what the others say to them, which leads them to become fully dependent on others. Many of them get cheated by others for not having knowledge of even a simple deal in daily life. They may be asked for the higher price than it is marked in the products or even they can be provided with the products which has expired. Hesitation and feelings of humiliation dominates them as they feel backward in various stages of a

life. We can estimate how the illiterate mother or the father feels when their small child asks them a simple school problem, and they do not know to solve it. The illiterate people tend to have a complete different lifestyle concerning access to modern technology, health care, and a civilization. The world is advancing very fast in science and technology resulting in coinage of various products for the daily use. The usage of such products needs some knowledge. We can generalize that, Lack of moral values, social involvement, and civilization education often generates behavior such as rudeness in dealing with other people, which has become the common case found among the illiterate people, where they tend to lose their verbal discipline; some may end up becoming a thugs. They can be thought as aliens on the earth as they are totally deprived of the knowledge of what is actually going on in this earth. Although television has alleviated their problem to some extent, it can never be the complete solution as one has to be literate to fully understand it. In the developed city area the overall system has become so complex that individuals need to be educated; either you have to cross the road or use the elevator, instructions should be read. The great invention of the human, the computer, which virtually has the solution to most problems, is out of direct access of those people. A computer has its application right from the home application to the large industries, and Internet has proved a gateway to exchange and share every material which is required. Even the small household application such as microwaves, air conditioners, and many more appliances requires following the instructions. Sources of entertainment are limited due to the lack of access to modern technology; due to lack of a proper health knowledge they end of getting many hindrances in life. Many such people do not take any family plan actions and come up with many children, thinking that those children would later help them in their manual work, but, at the same time, they do not pay attention to the possible health hazard that the mother and the child can face and even the way

to raise those children with all facilities. So it can be thought as a different kind of lifestyle than normal people are leading. The more illiterate people in a country, the more a country lags behind because a country has to hire more technicians and highly skilled manpower from other countries spending a huge amount of money. Darwins theory of struggling for existence even applies today for human beings. The world is very competitive and challenging, only the people who can accept the challenge and can compete can fit to the ever growing speed and lead their lives happily. Even among a educated people the competition is very tough, so the illiterate people lie far behind in the competition. Due to the lack of education and technical knowledge, they are not eligible for the high pay jobs. Mostly, the uneducated people have to choose the labor jobs, such as agricultural work, where there is less possibility to get promoted, so throughout their life they have to do manual jobs with nominal salary. Consequently, they cannot get proper healthcare and other facilities and it is very hard to raise their children. Other than financial problems, a country has to face many other problems regarding the law and order, providing employment, and many more. As a whole, a country has to look after the people rather than the people taking care of a country. Illiterate people as a whole are deprived of many things that they could have achieved if they had been educated. Within the society they are considered as inferior. They are not achieving in their life and at the same time they are constantly humiliated. Deprived of modern facilities, which could have enhanced their life to the new the extent, is out of their reach. They are forced to suppress the natural feeling of competition, as they run out of options since whatever they learn from the people in the vicinity is all they know. Habits such as dressing, eating, and dealing with the other people often exhibits their boring lifestyle. As youth get a lot of leisure time if they do not attend school, they may follow the wrong path in their life taking drugs and being involved in

unlawful activities. Illiterate people not only ruin their lives, but may cause serious effects to other individuals and for a society as well. For peace, development, and a civilized society, everybody should contribute to increasing the literacy rate regardless of the geographical boarders.
