INTRODUCTION ABOUT THE ELECTRONIC MEDIA

Television (TV) is a telecommunication medium for transmitting and receiving moving images that can be monochrome (black-and-white) or colored, with accompanying sound. "Television" may also refer specifically to a television set, television programming, and television transmission.

In todays world, television has become one of the most powerful means of mass communication .It can impart education, information and entertainment. Television has become an integral part of our lives. Today television has become an integral part of our lives. However, television is a recent invention. Very few homes had television sets some Fifty years ago. Also, till the 1990s Doordarshan was the only channel available to a vast majority of Indians. This lesson will take you through the story of television. Television began in India on 15th September 1959 as an experiment. There were only two one-hour programmes a week, each of one hour duration. The early programmes on these experimental broadcasts were generally educational programmes for school children and farmers. Several community television sets were set up in Delhis rural areas and schools around Delhi for the dissemination of these programmes. By the 1970s, television centers were opened in other parts of the country also. In 1976, Doordarshan, which was All India Radios television arm until then became a separate department. The aim of a television system is to extend the sense of sight beyond its natural limits and to transmit sound associated with the scene. The picture signal is generated by a TV camera and sound signal by a microphone. In the 625 lines CCIR monochrome and PAL-B colour TV systems adopted by India, the picture signal is amplitude modulated and sound signal frequency modulated before transmission. The two carrier frequencies are suitably spaced and their modulation products radiated through a common antenna. As in radio communication, each television station is allotted different carrier frequencies to enable selection of desired station at the receiving end. The TV receiver has tuned circuits in its input section called tuner.

(1) It selects desired channel signal out of the many picked up by the antenna. The selected RF band is converted to a common fixed IF band for convenience of Providing large amplification to it. The amplified IF signals are detected to obtain video (picture) and audio (sound) signals. The video signal after large amplification drives the picture tube to reconstruct the televised picture on the receiver screen. Similarly, the audio signal is amplified and fed to the loudspeaker to produce sound output associated with the scene. The broadcast television system is typically disseminated via radio transminations on designated channels in the 54 -890MHz frequency band. Signals are now often

transmitted with stereo and /or surrounded sound in many countries. Until the 2000 broadcast TV progamme were generally transmitted as an analog television signal, but in 2008 the USA went almost exclusively digital. A standard television set comprises multiple internal electronic circuits including those for receiving and decoding broadcast signals. A visual display device which lacks a tuner is properly called a video monitor, rather than a television. A television system may use different technical standard such as digital television (HDV) and high definition television (HDTV). Television systems are also used for surveillance, industrial process control, and guiding of weapons, in places where direct observation is difficult and dangerous. Amateur television (ham TV & AV TV) is also used for commercial experimentation, pleasure and public service events amateur radio operators. Ham TV stations were on air in many cities before commercial TV stations came on the air.

CONCLUSION
The summer training in electronic media was a learning experience for the students.it provided me with immense opportunities to explore different segments of electronic media. The training help I in knowing the application of academic lessons taught to us in our second year.

It gave me experience to work with experienced editors and reporters, correspondents like Mr.Abhay, Mr.Akhlesh and Mr. Deepak. My seniors have been extremely cooperative and helpful in enhance. My skills of reporting. They have always been friendly and made us feel as if we are at real workstation and not on training.

Finally, after going through various ups and downs while doing this summer reporting

and after accomplishment the task I arrived to the following conclusion:

Confidence shoots up- with this level of practical exposure and field

work, ones confidence level tends to rise.one handles more and more clients and gets positive responses, one tends to make the mind run for tips and tricks to achieve lesson from every failure.

Team efforts work- working for a channel is not an individuals game or

a childs play a group has to be there and devotion, action, innovation or for that matter any achievement or failure of each member really counts. Every member needs to coordinate with other members and should be not well known to his job but also to others job.

(16)

Realized the deadlines: a deadline plays a very vital role in time

management. If you do not meet the deadline, then the people you have assigned you job will block your nose and wont let you breath.one finds himself dead or baldhead.so the mantra is to complete the job within a given

deadline.

Long list of experience: one gets the experience of both difficulties and

achievements, which later become lesson for future.

Mistakes are a lesson for lifetime: it is very truly said a man learns

from his own mistakes. The mistakes brush you up for being attentive in future.

Transport posed a big problem- transport poses to be a big

problem.fordoing fieldwork, then be it reporting or client services, its convenient if one has an independent vehicle or if organization provides it. Otherwise sometimes due to such problems, the job gets delayed.
