Supporting Jade Scaffolding

RFID solution gives customers confidence.
Jade Industrial pride themselves on customer service. Their construction services experience allows them to foresee access requirements at the tendering stage, while on projects their expertise allows them to develop and implement solutions that dont need time-consuming micro management by their clients. Their operational ethos is one of innovative design and consultancy, using the best technical solutions. Thats why, when Jade started looking for a way to improve the service they gave to their customers they opted for RFID and why when they chose RFID, they turned to CoreRFID.

On The Top Floor

Jade provides scaffolding and other construction access capabilities for a wide range of building projects across Eire. They specialise in providing solutions for some of the most challenging environments such as working over water or over railways or scaffolding for shopping centres, historic buildings and bridges. They work on residential, commercial, industrial and civil engineering projects, providing scaffold designs and components, installation services and supporting construction projects that need shoring or propping. Safety is a major concern for any firm concerned with staff working at height. In the UK, there were 35 fatalities and over 4600 major injuries as a result of workplace falls in 2008/9. Besides the human costs of these incidents companies now face strict regulation (under the Working at Height Regulations 2008) and fines for failing to provide a safe environment for workers. Similar regulations (also conforming to EU Directives in this area) apply in Eire.

Jades services include hire and sale of scaffolding components. Ensuring safety in operations is an important part of their work.

Because of this Jade launched their GA3 Online system, a way that allows Jade to demonstrate that their installations meet the TG20:08 guidance on best practice for scaffolding. The system is based on the use of RFID tags that identify individual scaffolding components requiring inspection. A handheld computer guides scaffolding inspectors through the appropriate steps and checks. Data is sent back from the inspection site detailing any faults found (including photographs) and is made available to clients so that they can see immediately any difficulties with the scaffold installation. To implement their GA3 Online system, Jade chose to work with a leader in the RFID arena that has already helped improved safety in construction, aviation, shipping, and other areas. They chose to work with CoreRFID.

The Jade GA Online system is delivered to Jades customers using the CoreRFID CheckedOK application. CheckedOK allows scaffolding inspectors to be prompted for the tasks needed and for the results of inspections to be collected as they occur using a hand held computer. The information collected can be transmitted in real time or at the end of the day over GPRS or wi-fi links to the GA3 Online server. Equipment can be identified visually using equipment reference numbers, with barcodes or with RFID tags.

Jade use RFID tags to identify each scaffold installation. CoreRFID advised Jade on the selection of the most appropriate tags for use (in this case tags that would work well outdoors and when attached to metal). CoreRFID also created the menus for the handheld inspection system detailing the questions that scaffolding inspectors need to answer The handheld application during their checks. Where an item fails its inspection, the reason is recorded to allow collects inspection data. remedial action. Reports available to customers include photographs of faulty items and copies of the relevant safety certificates, automatically generated in the appropriate format by the system. The reporting portal provides immediate, simple to use, access to certificates and photographs of items failing inspections.
