GHOSTLIGHT SET TO RECORD & RELEASE CAST ALBUM MCC THEATERS HISTORIC PRODUCTION OF C A R R I E COMPANY GOES INTO RECORDING STUDIO APRIL 17
New York, NY (4/9/12) Ghostlight Records announced today that they will go into the recording studio with the cast of Carrie next week, April 17, to record the first-ever cast album for the historic production. Release dates for the album will be announced at a later time. The cast recording of Carrie will be produced by the shows composer Michael Gore alongside multiGrammy Award-winner Joel Moss, with Ghostlight Records Kurt Deutsch serving as Executive Producer. More information and details about album pre-orders will be announced at http://sh-kboom.com/carrie.shtml. On the announcement that Ghostlight would be releasing the cast album of Carrie, book writer Lawrence D. Cohen said: "It's enormously gratifying to know that after its 80-performance resurrection on stage at the Lortel Theater, Carrie will continue its rebirth with the cast recording of the MCC Production. After seeing a preview of the show, English critic Mark Shenton blogged that the new version 'proves that miracles can happen,' and this is another sign for us as its authors that they continue to do so." Composer Michael Gore added: "I'm extremely proud of this score, and it's a thrill to be recording this new MCC production with this fantastic cast. There have been so many requests for a recording over the years, so it's wonderful to be sending this out into the world at last!" And Ghostlight President Kurt Deutsch says: Preserving Carrie with the first real cast album insures that SHE will never die. I look forward to releasing on Ghostlight and hope that this album sparks the imagination the next generation of musical theatre artists and builds excitement for future productions to be licensed both nationally and internationally. MCC THEATERs (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director) production of Carrie closed following Sunday evenings performance (after 34 previews and 46 performances), concluding an initial 8-week run and 2-week extension. The newly reworked and fully re-imagined production of Carrie features music by Michael Gore, lyrics by Dean Pitchford (Academy Award winning composer and lyricist for the original film Fame) and a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (who also adapted the 1974 novel by Stephen King for the 1976 Brian DePalma film). Performances for Carrie began January 31, 2012, at the Lucille Lortel Theatre (121 Christopher Street, NYC) and officially opened on March 1, 2012; the show was originally scheduled to run through March 25, 2012. Based on Stephen King's bestselling novel, the musical of Carrie hasn't been seen since its legendary 1988 Broadway production. Set today, in the small town of Chamberlain, Maine, Carrie stars Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie (Next to Normal, Kiss Me Kate) as Carrie's evangelical mother, Margaret White, and Molly Ranson (Jerusalem, August: Osage County) as the lonely, vengeful, yet fragile girl at

the center of it all. The cast also includes Christy Altomare, Carmen Cusack, Jeanna de Waal, Derek Klena, Ben Thompson, Wayne Wilcox, Corey Boardman, Blair Goldberg, F. Michael Haynie, Andy Mientus, Elly Noble, Jen Sese, Mackenzie Bell, Jake Boyd and Anne Tolpegin. The creative team of Carrie includes Matt Williams (choreography), Mary-Mitchell Campbell (Music Direction and Arrangements), David Zinn (Set Design), Emily Rebholz (Costume Design), Kevin Adams (Lighting Design), Sven Ortel (Projections Design), Jonathan Deans (Sound Design), Doug Besterman (Orchestrations), AnnMarie Milazzo (Vocal Design), Leah J. Loukas (Wig and Hair Design), and Rick Sordelet (Fight director). Heres a sampling of what the critics had to say about this new production of Carrie: Welcome to the prom, Carrie. Theyre not going to laugh at you now! Powerfully acted and intensely well sung, this infamous rock musical about a telekinetic teen has the strange power to move you. The new and improved Carrie is gripping." Adam Feldman, Time Out New York The show has guts. Carries score does what a musical score should do: it moves the show along, illuminates the characters and deepens the emotions especially when the wild-eyed, steely-voiced Marin Mazzie, as the zealot mother, belts out 'When Theres No One,' the Act II stunner. Molly Ranson convincingly manages Carries transition from dysfunctional ugly-duckling to revenge-seeking swan. Carrie has real weight and emotional conviction. Richard Zoglin, Time A downtown hit! This former joke of a musical now feels like a bonanza. Linda Winer, Newsday Marin Mazzie dazzles! The beautiful, mournful Act II aria, When Theres No One, nails the chills and thrills lurking in the Carrie tale. Joe Dziemianowicz, NY Daily News In the fascinating new musical revival of Carrie, we finally get a fair take on Margaret White. Marin Mazzie rejects the easy caricature of her as an unthinking zealot, and delivers a complex portrait of a mother who is passionate, well-intentioned, and tragically flawed. She injects the ferocious Act II ballad, When Theres No One, with a stirring intensity. Its a magnetic performance. -Jason Zinoman, Slate A madly feverish musical! A sensational Marin Mazzie sings the blazes out of her combustible arias. Michael Sommers, NJ Newsroom Thankfully, Carrie has returned for her encore - and they finally did "get it right." -Bradley Steele Harding, FearNet Sh-K-Boom, with its imprint Ghostlight Records, has become the leading independent force in Original Broadway Cast Recordings, having built a library of over 100 records during the last 12 years featuring the most successful Broadway musicals and solo albums by Broadways biggest stars.
