Title: COLIC I. INTRODUCTION A.

All babies crying for various reasons such they feel hunger, heat, cold, tiredness or because the diapers need to change. But parents might feel worried and wonder if their baby always keeps crying even after being well fed, cleaned, and nicely wrapped up and well cared for. If a baby has repeated episode of inconsolable crying, but appears to be healthy and well, your baby may have colic. B. Many babies suffer from colic in their first few weeks of life. Rest assured, colic is a harmless condition and will resolve within a few week or months, at the most

BODY What is Colic? 1. About 1 in 10 babies will have colic at some point during early infancy. Some babies with colic cry for hours at around the same time every day, often in the early evening 2. Researches define colic as a healthy baby cries or frequently display any of distress action such cramping or moaning for extended periods without any reasonable reason. 3. Based on the article from the Medical News Today colic typically can be seen within the first month of life and often disappears suddenly, before the baby reach the age up to three to four months old, but can last up to 12 months of life. Colic is relatively short-lived which is in a matter of weeks or months one of the first challenges of parenthood will be over.

Colic overview 1. Colic is a collection of symptoms rather than a real disease. It usually begins in the first two or three weeks after birth and can last until the baby is three or four months old.

What are the symptoms? 1. If you notice your baby having the symptoms as follow, your baby can be considered faced Colic 2. Symptoms include: a. Unexplained crying, although the baby eats well and gaining weight. b. Baby pulls up his/her legs, as if having abdominal pain.

c. Baby not eating well, moans and is prone to weak crying. d. Intense crying for more than two hours. D. What to do? 1. In order to relief all these symptoms, parents can do all the methods as follow : a. Massage the baby gently or put the child on the stomach and stroke the back. b. Wrap the baby in a blanket. c. Apply warmth to the stomach (eg, a warm face towel). d. Burp after feeding or after long spells of crying. e. Sing or play gentle music. f. Some babies may accept a pacifier and calm down.

g. Riding in a car may calm a colicky baby. Fasten the baby securely into a properlyinstalled infant car seat. h. There are tape recordings and toys that play the sound of a human heart beating. This can sometimes calm a baby. E. The treatment 1. Parents are suggested to bring their babies to see a doctor if their efforts to pacify the baby fail. 2. Baby started to have vomiting or diarrhea. 3. The baby having a fever. 4. If there is a part of your babys body is swelling. III. CONCLUSION 1. Parents should not feel to worry if their baby having all these Colic symptoms. 2. Colic doesnt harm your babys development but in fact, babies with colic are actually very stimulated. 3. Always refer to the doctor if your baby keeps having all these symptoms. 4. Do remember, Colic is temporary and it is one of the challenges of the parenthood.
