A flexible duct must be connected to the plenum on the press to allow for the future removal of the plenum and access to the venting components, and to isolate the press from vibrations from the air system. CAUTION: The heat exhaust duct system should be designed in such a way that no outside air will be allowed to flow back into the exhaust ducts whether the print engine is ON or OFF. If outside air flows into the ducts, condensation may occur and damage key electrical components in the print engine.

Venting directly to atmosphere Venting to the atmosphere will be accomplished by direct connection from the plenum on top of the print engine (or for low ceilings, towards the back of the system from the rear of the environmental module). The exhaust from the plenum will be fed to the outside air through a flexible exhaust duct.
Venting to recirculating air ducts Venting to air recirculation ducts at customer site can be used if venting to the atmosphere is impossible (i.e., installation site is not located near an external wall). Ensure that negative pressure is applied to the exhaust duct.
The exhaust duct must be installed before the press can be installed. NOTE: After the flexible duct has been mounted, secure the duct about 8 ft. (2.44 m) above the floor so it will be out of the way of the press during installation and still be within reach. NOTE: A Xerox service engineer will attach the exhaust duct to the heat vent adapter on the press during installation.

Ceiling height
The height of the print engine with the heat vent, not including the adapter, is 8 ft. (2.44 m) tall. The total height dimension of the vent including the adapter is 8 ft. 8 in. (2.7 m). However, when the adapter and the flex connector are attached, there is a 2 inch overlap that makes the total vent height actually 8 ft. 6 in.(2.6 m). The minimum ceiling height above the print engine depends on the routing of the exhaust duct. If the exhaust duct is routed under the ceiling, the minimum ceiling height is 11 ft. (3.35 m) (Figure 59.). The flexible exhaust duct requires approximately 3 ft. (914 mm) to mount to the top of the press. The minimum ceiling height above the rest of the press is 8 ft. 6 in. (2.6 m). NOTE: The same dimensions apply to a press with no exhaust duct attached, and no ceiling hole above the exhaust hole. Figure 5-9. Duct routed under ceiling

If the exhaust duct is routed straight up (Figure 5-10.), the minimum height required for a hard ceiling, e.g., concrete, is 9 ft. 6 in. (2.9 m). However, a dropped ceiling would only need to be approximately 8 ft. 6 in. (2.6 m) as long as a hole can be cut in the dropped ceiling to accommodate the heat vent adapter and there is additional clearance above the dropped ceiling. NOTE: The same dimensions apply to a press with no exhaust duct attached, and with a ceiling hole above the exhaust hole.

Duct location
When locating the flexible duct and/or the rigid duct, ensure that there is room for removal of the heat vent hood. If the height of the rigid duct is less than 11 ft. (3.35 m), the rigid duct should be beside the marking module, not above it. Figure 5-11. Rigid duct beside the marking module 2 4 3 1

If the rigid duct is above the marking module, the minimum distance of the rigid duct above the heat vent hood is 2 ft. (610 mm).
