The Moscow University of Finance and Law (MFUA) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2012 annual Art Start Festival, in cooperation with the Moscow City Government. Now in its seventh year, the mission of the festival continues to be first and foremost, to encourage youth to reflect on societys mission, priorities, problems and hopes for the future and to creatively express their opinions on such topics through art, technology, architecture and design, journalism, advertising and the performing arts. In 2011, approximately 1500 students participated in the festival by submitting their project work, out of which 400 entries were received from international students. The focus of the 2012 Art Start Festival is the idea of universal human values and social beliefs that pertain to the general public or specific demographic groups. Students are encouraged to submit original projects and work that is aligned with this main theme, unless specified otherwise in specific category entry requirements listed below. Sample topics may include environmental responsibility, eliminating poverty, drug and alcohol dependency awareness, etc.

General Contest Requirements and Information: 1. Submitted projects should be of original work. In respect for copyright law, works deemed by the panel of experts judging the contest that contain plagiarized material will be withdrawn, and the participant will be duly notified. 2. Contest participants must submit along with their entry, a completed application form (see attached). The deadline for submission of all projects is April 30, 2012. Additional information can also be found at: http://artstart.ru/ 4. Winners in all categories will be announced at the Art Start Festival on May 15, 2012. While finalists will be invited to attend the festival and ceremony, those not able to attend the event in person will be notified of contest outcomes, and prizes (if applicable) will be sent via mail. 5. First place winners in all categories are entitled to one year of free tuition to undertake studies related to their area of specialization at the Moscow University of Finance and Law (MFUA). Second place winners are entitled to a 50% tuition scholarship (MFUA). Third place recipients will be awarded with prizes from festival sponsors. All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Project Categories and Specific Entry Requirements:

Category: Journalism Specific entry requirements: Two formats of journalism entries are currently being accepted. 1. Essay write 2-3 printed pages on a social topic of your choice (using the general context requirements as a guideline). A-4 size should be used as a standard, font size 14, 1.5 spacing) 2. Photo Report - Up to 10 photos, with supporting captions should be submitted on a given topic. (Format standard for photos - *. Jpg, 8 bit, sRGB color profile: 1966, Image size: at least 1600 pixels)

Category: Architecture and Design Specific entry requirements: Submission types in this category include the following. 1. Architecture project should be based on the conceptual architectural design of sports and leisure center for young people. (Architectural layout and design should be submitted in electronic version) 2. Interior Design project should be based on the conceptual interior design of a sports and leisure center for young people. (Interior design should be submitted in electronic version) 3. Furniture Design Project subject can be selected by the student (Model should be submitted in electronic version). 4. Landscape Design Project should focus on landscaping for small residential or commercial sites (Landscaping design should be submitted in electronic version) 5. Youth Apparel Project subject can be selected by the student (Model or sketch should be submitted in electronic version). 6. Toys Project subject can be selected by the student (Photos/ pictures of the model should be submitted in electronic version).

Category: Information Technology Specific entry requirements: Project topics may be selected by the student. Links to functioning websites/ games should be submitted via email. Submission types in this category include: 1. Computer game 2. Personal web-site

Category: Art Specific entry requirements: All entries should focus and relate to the topic The world through the eyes of youth". Students may use their materials of choice. Photos of completed art works should be submitted in electronic version. Submission types in this category include: 1. Photo 2. Painting 3. Graphics 4. Installation

Category: Advertising Specific entry requirements: Entries in this category should focus on the overall conference theme of universal values of social beliefs, as described above. Submission types in this category include: 1. Poster - image intended for demonstration in large rooms, on street billboards or public venues. (Format standard: * tiff, - *eps, - * ai, color model CMYK (optional: look-version format - * jpg). 2. Flyer - a sheet of paper, sealed with one or both sides, in one or more colors, advertising informational content. (Format standard: A4) 3. Video - video ad (commercial) shown by television. (Duration should not exceed 60 seconds. Format standard - * avi, 640x480, sound, 44 100Hz Stereo). 4. Audio - audio advertising (radio ads, audio advertisement on public transport, etc.). (Duration should not exceed 30 seconds. Format standard- MP3. Sound Stereo). Category: Performing Arts Specific entry requirements: Project topics may be selected by the student. Performances should be video recorded and submitted via email. Submission types in this category include:

1. Monologue 2. Recitation of a selected poem 3. Dance

Additional Terms and Conditions: Once submitted to conference organizers, original works will not be returned to students. Contest organizers reserve the right to use and reproduce submitted works for any purpose (including but not limited to advertising in educational and informational publications and catalogs, for television or radio broadcast, as well as for placement in other areas of advertising and media used for educational purposes, in whole or in part), in accordance with the provisions provided by copyright law. In the case of submission of claims or complaints by third parties, including owners of copyright and related rights in the work presented, the participant agrees to resolve such claims on their own behalf and at their own expense. Participation in the Art Start Festival and submission of projects thereto, indicates the acceptance and acquaintance of contest terms and rules as applicable.
