As part of the Clean Cities Electric Vehicle Grant (Project FEVER), the Denv er Metro Clean Cities Coalition is going to host a forum for fleet managers to discuss the unique challenges that fleets face while introducing electric v ehicles. No matter the implementation stage of your EV program, we encourage you to attend to share your perspectiv e. A formal agenda will be provided soon, but sav e the date: Monday, April 30, 9am 3pm (includes coffee and lunch) The meeting will be at the American Lung Association offices in Greenwood Village: 5600 Greenwood Plaza Blvd., Suite 100, 80111 This will be the only opportunity to share success stories, v oice concerns, and identify solutions towards a more electrified fleet. All fleets are welcome- public, priv ate, heav y-duty, light-duty, small and large! Please share this inv itation with fellow fleet managers. RSVP to Lauren Quillian at lquillian@lungcolorado.org
Thank you!
The 2011 Southern Colorado Clean Cities Annual Report has been completed, and we couldnt hav e done it without your help! With input from local fleets, the report helps the Department of Energy get an accurate snapshot of the alternativ e fuels usage by fleets and av ailability of fuels in our community. W hile were still awaiting formal certification by the DOE before making the full report public, we are happy to announce that preliminary data shows more than 830,000 gasoline gallon equivalents were reduced in southern Colorado due to the efforts of fleet inv estments in alternativ e fuels! That equates to a greenhouse gas emission reduction of nearly 5700 tons! The report also shows that more than 2000 alternativ e fuels v ehicles are a part of fleets within southern Colorado 2000 vehicles! If youd like a copy of the full report once its been certified by the DOE, please contact Coordinator Dianne Bertini at dianne@cleancitiescolorado.org
Last year, hill climber Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima became the first man to conquer Pikes Peak in under 10 minutes, driving a raceprepped Suzuki that was bleeding coolant and steering fluid by the time it crossed the finish line. This year, the 61-year-old plans to beat his record in this -- a custom-built electric car. If he succeeds, it will be the most impressive accomplishment by an electric racer in history. Tajima does have some benefits to running electric over the 12.4-mile course, even if he won't be able to match the 847-hp output of his 2011 ride.
his 2011 ride. Most gaspowered cars have to use massive turbochargers to suck enough air at altitudes topping 9,000 ft., and many overheat; neither should be an issue in an EV. Last year, Chad Hord put a Nissan Leaf on the route and finished in 14 minutes, 33 seconds, a record Tajima should smash without issue. The fastest custom-built EV run last year finished in 12:20 -- and had to run part of the course on gravel, which has since been paved over. Article from Yahoo Autos.

Funding Opportunities
Light-Duty Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Validation Data $6,000,000 Open Date: 02/29/2012 Close Date: 04/30/2012 Funding Organization: Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Funding Number: DE-FOA-0000625
Summary: In this Light-Duty Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Validation Data Announcement (FOA), the Fuel Cell Technologies (FCT) Program seeks to fund the collection, analysis, and validation of light-duty hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) performance data operating in real-world environments. Feedback will be provid ed to the DOE hydrogen and fuel cell R&D projects and industry partners to help determine what additional R&D is required to move the technology forward. The total DOE funding available for new awards is estimated to be $6,000,000. The full Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is posted on the EERE Exchange website at https://eereexchange.energy.gov . Applications must be submitted through the EERE Exchange website to be considered for award. The applicant must first register and create an account on the EERE Exchange website. The Users' guide for applying to Department of Energy (DOE), Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy's (EERE) Funding opportunity Announcements (FOA) through the Exchange website can be found at https://eereexchange.energy.gov/Manuals.aspx . Information on where to submit questions regarding the content of the announcement and where to submit questions regarding submission of applications is found in the full FOA posted on the EERE Exchange website. For more information, see the full solicitation. *** Wireless Charging for Electric Vehicles $12,000,000 for new awards; up to $8,000,000 per award Open Date: 04/05/2012 Close Date: 05/31/2012 Funding Organization: DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory on behalf of the DOE EERE Vehicle Technologies Program Funding Number: DE-FOA-0000667 Summary: The objectiv e of this FOA is to research and develop a production-feasib le wireless charging system, integrate the system into a production-intent vehicle, and to demonstrate the technologys readiness to deliv er the benefits of static (and possibly quasi-dynamic) wireless charging to driv ers of light-duty (10,000 lb Gross Vehicle Weight Rating or less) Grid-Connected Electric Driv e Vehicles (GCEDV). While the primary focus of this project is the advancement of static and possib ly quasidynamic charging, the Department of Energy (DOE) recognizes that the research and demonstration results of this FOA may contribute to the future development of dynamic charging capability. This project shall demonstrate wireless charging technology while being cost competitiv e and compliant with safety standards For more information, see the full solicitation.
