Due to renovations to the interior of our church, wedding reservations during the months of June, July, and August of 2012 are not being scheduled at St. Cyrils. to reflect upon in our daily prayer. How well am I growing in my faith? How well do I give witness to the story of Christs suffering and resurrection? How might I share my love for Jesus with others today? Caring For Some Precious Children Our parish is making an important appeal this weekend for adults to volunteer in the SPRED program. The SPRED program offers special religious education to those who are developmentally or intellectually challenged, those with autism or with learning problems. Hopefully in the fall of this year we will have enough adults to establish a session for six teens. I have worked with the SPRED program in the past in my other parish assignments. It is truly a rewarding and humbling experience. The children are a beautiful gift. Most of the time, I felt like I was learning more from them, than they were from me. Maybe helping the SPRED program might be your gift to the children and to our parish. Please give it some thought. Contact information for the SPRED program is provided in todays bulletin. An informational meeting for volunteers will take place this Monday, April 23rd at 7:00 PM in the school. Can you help? Let the Children Come To Me This is an exciting week as our children in 2nd grade approach their First Holy Communion on Saturday, April 18th. This is a sacred time for them and for their families as they come to the altar to receive Jesus in the Eucharist. Their innocent, but powerful faith, is an inspiration to us adults. May we allow Jesus to fill our hearts with the same love, peace and joy that he has for these little ones. Something New In Church Today The scaffolding you see this weekend indicates the start of the painting of the interior of our church. A sample section on the west wall is being dedicated to test the colors in relationship with the available lighting. The major portion of the restoration work will start in June right after the graduation ceremony for the students in our Parish School. We encourage those who have not yet made a commitment to our capital campaign, Our Faith, Our Gift, Our Home, to prayerfully consider how they might be able to help our parish care for our historic and sacred building. At this point, we are in need of $331,500 to reach our goal of $1 million. Pledge cards are available in church by the boards that show the rendering; pledge cards are also included in the bulletin every week. We are grateful for the support of our many parishioners who have already made a commitment to our capital campaign as we undertake this huge endeavor.

Dear Parents, Next Saturday, April 28th, our second graders will join with students from the Religious Education Program as they receive Jesus for the first time in Holy Communion! We congratulate them, their parents, and teachers for all of the hard work leading up to this very special moment in their lives. Our second graders recently finished their preparation by joining with their families in a special retreat day. It was a great experience and one the children will remember for a very long time. Their teachers, Miss Paukovitz and Mrs. Tomala, worked hard to arrange all of the activities. Thank you to all of the moms who came out to help put the event together, and to all of the second grade moms and dads who joined in this day of prayer and preparation. The Class of 2012 recently welcomed many Senior Citizens from the area for a morning of Bingo and refreshments. Thank you to the students and their teachers for making this a rewarding experience for everyone involved. We are proud of their efforts! We also celebrated the opening of the baseball season with our kindergarten students as they enjoyed Opening Day. They got to play a game of baseball in our gym and enjoy eating some hot dogs, too! A highlight was the ceremonial first pitch which was thrown out by our Principals for the Day, Paul and Matas Mikuzis. Dont forget, our Board of Specified Jurisdiction (BSJ) is currently seeking new members to join them beginning in August. The BSJ is composed of several different committees who share talents and ideas to help our school continue to be successful. You do not need to be a school parent to be a part of this organization. Please call our schools office for more information! Mrs. Tkachuk, Principal

Today at all Masses we welcome Guadalupe Sanchez and Randy Zezulka. Their witness will enlighten us to consider becoming involved with the SPRED program. SPRED is about friendships with people we may see in the parish but dont really know. Among them are people with developmental and intellectual challenges. SPRED is about Jesus words: Where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am with you. It is a small community of faith and not a teaching model of religious education. SPRED is about sharing a story from our life experiences, eating together a simple meal around a beautiful table, working together with materials we havent used in years. We have a need for volunteers men and women so we can TRULY welcome our friends. We also want to know the families of children, teens, young adults, and adults with mental retardation, down syndrome, autism and its spectrum, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and learning problems no matter their abilities. Please open your hearts and discover SPRED by coming to our Information Night on Monday, April 23rd at 7 PM in our schools teachers lounge. Listen, ask questions and make your own decisions.
Congratulations

Discernment
The Parish Pastoral Council is seeking nominees to fill three positions on our ninemember parish leadership team. The mission of our SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish Pastoral Council includes:
i i
Assisting in the establishment of policies and procedures relevant to the operation of our parish. Creating and maintaining vehicles of communication between our parish and the faith community. Defining needs of our parish and assisting in the implementation of those needs. This is an initial invitation announcing the opening for parishioners from SS. Cyril & Methodius to participate in the Habitat for Humanity program in Lexington, Kentucky. Dates: June 17th-23rd, 2012 Eligibility:
Our council works closely with Father Larry in establishing the vision, mission, goals and direction for our parish. All registered and actively participating members of SS. Cyril & Methodius Parish of at least twenty-one years of age are eligible to seek election to the council. Each nominee must submit a written statement to the council indicating his/her willingness to serve. The written statements can be addressed to the Parish Council Nominating Committee, c/o the Rectory, and must be received by Monday, May 7, 2012. Those submitting a written statement should plan to attend the Parish Council meeting on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the Rectory Meeting Room. It should be noted that candidates are NOT elected to the council through a parish-wide election, but rather through a selection process known as discernment. Discernment allows interested candidates and current Council members to prayerfully reflect on how the skills, talents and personal characteristics of interested candidates meet the current needs of our Parish Council. Specific information on the discernment process will be presented at our May 25th meeting. Interested candidates are encouraged to contact any council member or Father Larry with specific questions or requests for information (630) 257-2776.
