What is the concentration of each solution based on the percent change in mass of the carrots? Hypothesis If the carrots gain mass then the concentration of the water outside the carrot is more. Analysis The colorless solution is the 1M solution because the cell has lost water as a result of the water being too concentrated inside. The purple solution is the 0M solution because it gained mass as a result of water getting in the membrane because water concentration outside the cell was too concentrated. The yellow solution is the 0.4 M of solution. The green Solution is the 0.2 M of solution. The red solution is the 0.8M of solution. And the blue solution is the 0.8M of solution. There will be no change in mass at .18 for the potatoes and there will be no change for the carrots at 0.4. The significance is that the solution will be isotonic at that point. The carrots have more

water than the potatoes. And the potatoes have more sucrose solute than the carrots. That is why water is able to get in the carrots by osmosis. No I would not get the same result for sweet potatoes because different substance have different molarities. Conclusion I learned a lot by doing this lab. But there are some things that I am still confused about, for example my data is telling me something and I am hearing something else from other people. My hypotheses were correct because I determined which solution was which by analysis the one that I knew for example the purple one and the colorless one. I knew that the one that was pure water, the cell would gain mass from it. So I used that to guess for all the others.
