Volvo 9400 is an inter-city coach designed in Europe and built in India at Volvo Buses body building facility at Hosakote, Bangalore. It incorporates contemporary European bus design with qualities such as solid construction, reliability, economy, comfort, safety and a host of new features. And above all it is designed to meet the high standards, for operators to ensure maximum passenger satisfaction and full capacity business operations. Volvo 9400 is perfectly suitable for long distance intercity operations, ideal for excursions as well as short trips for city tourism.
The distinctive European look, revolutionary styling and typical Volvo design features, makes the Volvo 9400 a coach of timeless elegance that is great to look at and to travel in the lap of luxury. It has a wide range of colour schemes for body and interiors to choose from that adds a personal touch and makes it stand out in the crowd. Integration of Power, Comfort and Safety Volvo 9400 combines maximum driver comfort with economy. The Volvo D7E 290 engine with high performance six-speed manual gear box and precise combustion through common rail direct injection system offers excellent performance and productivity. Noise and vibration-free interiors with ergonomically designed seats and perfect temperature control through roofmounted air-conditioning system and heat insulated windows make sure that the passengers and the driver travel in cool comfort. Safety is the top priority at Volvo. The driver compartment is ergonomically designed for stress-free operation. The incredibly sturdy and rigid vehicle structure ensures a superior body. Electronically-controlled brake system (EBS) further exemplifies the safety of Volvo 9400.

The first impression The Volvo 9400 is a coach that makes an impression. A modern exterior with the characteristic Volvo feel is matched by an elegant interior featuring soft, gentle shapes and well-designed trim. The luggage racks, handles, fittings and ceiling panel are all designed to reinforce the impression of space. You can choose between different colour schemes, where the roof lining, walls, floor, blinds and seat covers all match one another in light or dark shades.

The feeling of comfort Comfort levels are high in a Volvo Bus. Electronically controlled air suspension with independent front suspension and a rigid frame design makes for a reassuring ride on rough terrains and smooth road handling. A low noise level and comfortable seats are other important key factors ensuring a comfortable journey. The seats are available in a choice of three comfort levels, with a range of adjustment, upholstery and equipment such as head rests, footrests and calf supports. Large tinted windows provide good visibility all round. The climate on board is always pleasant with an efficient ventilation system of extremely high capacity, good air distribution and individually adjustable air vents for each seat.

Volvo 9400 is designed to deliver maximum availability with minimum maintenance and ease of repair, low-fuel consumption, economical operations and long service life. Volvo D7E 290 engine specially adapted for the inter-city coach has been a proven performer across the world in diverse operation conditions with good fuel economy, long service intervals and trouble-free service life.

D7E 290 Common Rail Direct Injection Engine The compact design of D7E 290 helps increased payload. Equipped with CRDI type Common Rail Direct Injection pump, the fuel injection at high pressure allows complete combustion which results in fuel efficiency and low emission levels. The 290 hp (1200 Nm), D7E 290 engine conforms to EURO III standards and features Volvo EMS2 (Engine Management System) which provides precise and efficient engine control. The Engine Control modules takes in data from several sensors on the engine and the vehicle, compares current readings with stored parameters and adjusts fuel quantity and injection timing accordingly. The engine is integrated with the bus electronic system, operation and control parameters and permits advanced communication with the driver via information display on the dashboard. This

helps in efficient engine management and scope for diagnosis and fault tracing. High performance gearbox Volvo 9400 has a manual gearbox, the ZF 6S1380BD, with 6 forward and 1 reverse speeds, which are fully synchronized ensuring easy operations. The gear box is lighter due to the aluminium housing. Dual air intake To avoid the suction of road dust and water into the air filter, and to get optimum heating and cooling performance, Volvo 9400 has dual air intake placed above the engine. This also helps in keeping the engine cleaner and reducing operating costs. Fuel tank The fuel tank has a capacity of 600 litres - (300 x1+150 x 2). They are

made of plastic with filling option on both sides, ensuring lighter chassis weights with fuel. Electrical Systems The Volvo 9400 has two alternators with (100A x 2 alt) current capacity to meet the high loads of electricity required for bus operations. EBS and ESP The Volvo 9400 features Volvo disc brakes with EBS (Electronic Brake System), which offers excellent braking performance and rapid, gentle and controlled braking. In addition, there are other safety-enhancing and comfort-boosting solutions, such as Hill Start Aid, which stops the bus from rolling backwards when starting on a hill. Supplementing the wheel brakes is the Volvo Compact Retarder.

Air-suspension system Volvo 9400 is fitted with an air suspension with two air bellows in the front and four air-bellows in the rear. The system efficiently irons out irregularities of the road and offers a high degree of ride comfort. Floor based luggage space Over 10 cum. of floor level luggage space with easy access to load and unload baggage has been provided for storage space in the Volvo 9400.

Less risk with good visibility With first-class ride and road holding, an ergonomically designed drivers environment and excellent all-round visibility, the Volvo 9400 offers good accident-preventive safety. It has large rear-view mirrors with integrated close-quarter mirrors. Powerful headlights and high-set brake lamps further reduce the risk of accidents. Safety-tested bodies If an accident should occur, our aim is to reduce the consequences as much as possible. The Volvo 9400 meets the EUs Bus and Coach Directive, and the Indian Superstructure Strength Directive requirements, which means the vehicle has to withstand a rollover without the roof collapsing. The interior is soft and free from protruding parts or sharp edges. Unique Volvo protection for driver and guide The drivers seat in the Volvo 9400 comes with an integrated three-point seat belt, in order to improve safety for the driver and the guide.
