College news We are delighted to update you on our growth in various dimensions.

Padmashree College of nursing offers two programs in nursing. The UG program was started in the year 2002 with an intake of 60 students and the INC (enhancement of seats) permission was obtained for 100, Feb. 2011. PG program was started in the year 2006 with an intake of 25 students 5 in each specialty areas. The PG programme for nursing was recognized by INC in the year 2007. Presently there are 300 students. We work towards mining the best that each student has within himself or herself. To encourage the students our Management offers merit scholarships to all students who excel in University examinations and secure distinctions. Apart from this we organize Lamp lighting ceremony, Graduation, Conferences at National level and Alumnus as main events. The 5th batch of MSc (N), Students has secured 12 distinctions with 96% results. The 9th batch of BSc(N), Students had secured 100% result with 9 Distinctions. Ms. Monika Limbu of 4th year was awarded 2 University Gold medals for securing the highest marks in the final year BSc (N) and for the overall BSc(N) programme. She also bagged 12th Florence Nightingale award, organized by Anglo-Indian Unity Centre and Florence Nightingale Nurses Welfare Association. CLINICAL PRACTICE & FIELD EXPERIENCE Efforts were made to improve the quality of clinical experience by establishing tie ups with reputed Hospitals. Our students were exposed to emergency/critical care settings; were posted along with the trained nurses in several camps as pulse polio, medical, eye, gynae and family welfare organized at various rural, urban and hospital settings.

FIRST ALUMNI MEET The first Alumni reunion was held on 19TH Aug 2010. The ceremony was presided by Dr. B.R. Ramakrishna, Principal and Professor, Sushrutha Ayurvedic Medical College. The alumni were felicitated by Dr. Lalitha. K, HOD Nursing Dept. NIMHANS, Dr. Nagarajaiah, Prof. Dept. of psychiatry, NIMHANS. Prof Eben Bhaskaran, Principal, Brigt CON. Prof. Nanjunde Gowda Principal, Dayanand Sagar CON. Prof. Nandeesh principal, Gangothri CON, UG (N) Chairman BOS, RGUHS. Dr B.R. Ramakrishna gave a message to all Alumni and highlighted on current trends in medicine and nursing. Programme concluded with variety entertainment by our students with their spectacular performance. PLACEMENT&CAMPUS INTERVIEW Placement assistance is provided with in the college campus. Our students are recruited through campus interview conducted by the reputed hospitals such as FORTIS and other Specialties hospitals like NU Hospital, APOLLO Hospital, etc..Many students are placed in leading hospitals such as NARAYANA HRIDAYAALAYA Bangalore, INDRAPRASTHA APOLLO Hospital New Delhi and NU, Hospital etc APOLLO hospital Orissa, conducted campus interview on 14th July 2011, and on 27th July 2011, the NU hospital Bangalore, conducted campus interview for the final year students and 35 students were selected after a group discussion. At the end of the course and orientation programme is being organized to assist students in getting placements abroad. FACULTY DEVELOPMENT Our college had conducted many faculty development programmes for our faculty and also encouraged both UG and PG faculty to participate in conferences, in-service education and continuing education programmes with in the campus. In March 2010, a state conference on TIE IN NURSING RESEARCH was organized within the college campus. It was very informative for the participants. On 8th January 2011, a state conference on Application of Theory Based Conceptual Model in Clinical Nursing Research was conducted. Around 260 delegates from 30 colleges in Karnataka & other states from all over South India had attended the conference. On 9th and 10th January 2012Nnational Level Workshop was organized on Innovative Management Techniques, about 200 delegates around the Nation participated.

FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS Our faculty has attended & participated various National & International conferences to upgrade their knowledge in current trends & advancement of Research Dr.Fathima.L, Principal & Ms. Shoba Assoc.Prof presented a scientific paper in an international conference on SINNCON 2011 under NEUROCON organized at NIMHANS Convention Centre from 15t h -18th December 2011. Mrs. Sharmila, vice-principal cum HOD of Psychiatric Nursing Dept has been selected for PhD in Nursing at Savitha University, Tamil Nadu. Ms. Subhashini G, HOD of OBG had been Resource person for National Level Panel Discussion conducted by KLES University, Belgaum on 23rd & 24th Nov 2011. Mrs.Dhanlakshmi, Asst. Prof of OBG Nursing Dept had been selected for PhD in Nursing at Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai. All UG faculty attended and participated in a workshop conducted by NIMHANS on Essential Skills in Psychiatric Nursing at NIMHANS Convention Centre. Ms. Helen, clinical Instructor had given a classical performance, at Ravindra Kalakshetra, Bangalore.

FACULTY WELFARE The PG and UG faculty participated in the three day Faculty Development Programme on Leadership Skills and Creative Teaching by the Academy for Creative Teaching, organized by the Management of PGI Teachers day was celebrated by our institution provided a good recreation & also an opportunity for the entire faculty to exhibit their talent. The PG &UG students also honoured their teachers by conducting a special programme. A faculty picnic was organized in the month of September 2011 & all the staff companied enthusiastically & enjoyed their picnic by preparing their own favorite dishes & distributing to other faculty. STUDENT WELFARE The hostel committee was taken charge by the student representative of final year B.Sc nursing under the supervision of the Principal and the Coordinator. The hostel maintenance and mess activities are also coordinated by the student representatives. Continuous Monitoring and Psychological counseling of the students is organized by the faculty to identify the student problems and suitable measures were adopted to avoid future problems. Freshers party, Christmas party, Farewell party, Thanksgiving party, Onam etc,. were enthusiastically celebrated by our students. Within the college campus Religious retreats, Christmas service and carols were organized for the students. The major student welfare activities are conducted and performed through our SNA Unit, NSS and Youth Red Cross Team. The SNA actively participated in various activities. The SNA conducted film show to raise the fund from all the classes. This year SNA certificate have been prepared and distributed to out gone batch. TNAI Registration We are proud to announce 80 student of 4th year B.Sc nursing of 2010-2011 batch were enrolled from SNA to TNAI as life members. Extra Curricular Activities In Cultural and sports, Students participated and won many prizes in annual sports competition held in PGI on 12th to 17th of Jan 2011. Our faculty also participated and won prizes in sports competition conducted by PGI. Final year students participated in intercollegiate sports competition conducted on 21st may 2011 and III year students participated in SNA sports and cultural competitions on 27th & 28th may 2011 in SJB CON Students participated in cultural programme conducted by Florence Nightingale Intercollegiate competitions. CONGRATULATIONS Marriages: Our PG students, Mrs. Shiny, Mrs. Vidyashree, Mrs. Bisy Varghese, Mrs. Antony suja, Mrs.Shobarani, Mrs.Kriti Sharma, Mrs.Liji James, Mr Hilal & Mr Antony Llyod happily settled in their life Motherhood: Mrs.Asha, Mrs Indumathi, Mrs.Udhyalakshmi Mrs. Lija Mathew & Mrs. Renuka V, expecting for a new arrival. Nursing: Since 2002, 6 batches were promoted from our institution, out of which 407 students were passed out. The brief details of our passed out students are 200 students working Overseas, 87 students doing higher education, 21 students working in government set ups all over the Nation, 84 students working in private reputed Medical college & Hospitals and 15 working at Educational Organizations. M.Sc. Nursing: Since 2006 4 batches were promoted from our institution, out of which 89

were passed out. The brief details of our passed out students are 30 students working Overseas as Nurse Practitioners and Educators,19 students enrolled for Ph.D in various universities, 14 students working in Govt set ups and 6 students at private Medical college hospital set ups as nurse practitioners and Nurse instructors, rest of 20 students working as Nurse Educators at Reputed Institutions. OBITUARY With burdened hearts we would like to inform about the untimely & tragic death of Mrs. Jessie Ponnutai, Prof. HOD of OBG department had passed away, October 2010. We deeply condole the demise of our dear madam. May God grant peace to all her loved ones. FUTURE PLANS Organizing faculty & student development programmes. Provide education through using recent technology and high-tech methods to make learning easier. Introducing Administration training programmes for 4th year B.Sc Nursing students.
