This book has been split into 11 units to cover the entire overview of Information Technology. Fundamentals of Information Technology

introduces the essential skills needed for students to pursue specialized programs leading to technical and professional careers and certifications in the IT industry. Students have an opportunity to investigate career opportunities in four major IT areas: Information Services and Support, Network Systems, Programming and Software Development, and Interactive Media. The focus of the IT Fundamentals course is on introducing skills related to information technology basics, hardware, software, Internet fundamentals, computer applications, graphics, interactive media, computer hardware structure and operation (processors, memory, input devices, output devices, storage), operating systems and utilities, application software, data representation and number systems and the basic concepts required for programming. Unit 1: History of Information Technology: This unit speaks about introduction, History of computer, Generation of computers, Classification of computers and impact of IT on day-to-day life. Unit 2: Computer Concepts: This unit deals with Computer structure, Input units, Central processing units, Basics of hardware, Computer software and Computer languages. Unit 3: Number System: It covers concepts of Decimal number systems, Binary number system, Negative numbers, Negative numbers using complements and gates. Unit 4: Introduction to operating systems: This unit deals with different types of Operating Systems, Introduction to Windows-XP and Features of Windows XP.

Unit 5: Hardware and Software:

This unit speaks about Computer

hardware, Terms, Computer components, Computer memory, Cache memory, Hard drives, CD-ROMS, Monitors, Keyboards, Introduction to Softwares, Computer programming languages and Translators. Unit 6: MS-Word: This unit deals with Basics of MS-word, Basic units, File menus, Title menus, Formatting techniques and Table. Unit 7: MS Excel-I : This unit deals with parts of MS-Excel, Standard toolbar, Formatting toolbar, Cells, Worksheets, Navigate work sheets, Relative cell addressing, Absolute cell addressing and saving work book. Unit 8: MS Excel-II: This unit deals with Common functions of Excel, Logical functions, Auto SUM, Auto fill, Custom list, Sheet layout, Database, Charts and Sorting functions.
