eAdvice Installation Instructions 3
2. Installation\Upgrade Process

The Star eAdvice install set can be obtained from a variety of sources including
CDROM, FTP, email and download from the Internet on
www.starsystemsolutions.com

To install\upgrade eAdvice, both a client and server installation needs to be
performed.

2.1 Client Installation

2.1.1 Overview

This process needs to be performed only on client machines where eAdvice
functionality is required, not necessary on every machine where eBackoffice has
been installed.

The client installation process will:
Install\Update client application components of eAdvice,
Transfer eAdvice SQL Server installation files onto the client machine,
Create a Program Folder and eAdvice Icon on the Start Menu. The default
is `Start\Programs\Star\eAdvice.

The same process is used for both new installations and upgrades. Some
additional steps are required if the eAdvice forms have been customised.

2.1.2 Before you begin

If upgrading, and eAdvice forms have been customised, please contact your
software provider before proceeding with the upgrade.

2.1.3 Installation process

To start the client installation process, run the Setup.exe file which is
included in the install-set. Step through each of the screen prompts.

During the screen prompts, you will be prompted with a `Setup Type selection.
This will display a list of eBackOffice versions to choose from. The `Description
section on the screen provides further details about each option. Select the
version applicable to your eBackoffice installation.

eAdvice requires a separate program to generate the attachment PDF files.
Currently eAdvice can use either:
- Adobe Acrobat PDF Writer version 5 or prior
OR
-Star PDF Writer

eAdvice Installation Instructions 4
If Star PDF Writer has not already been installed on the machine, the
installation program will suggest installing it. Select the check box to install the
Star PDF Writer when prompted.

2.1.4 After Installation

After installing eAdvice apply\re-apply the customised forms if required. To
apply the customised forms you need to replace the default
star_ad_customised.pbd file with the customised star_ad_customised.pbd file.

2.2. Server Installation

2.2.1 Overview

This process only needs to be performed ONCE for each eBackOffice
company database.

During the server installation, a database user called STAR automatically will be
created. Removing this user from the database or changing the password will
prevent eAdvice from running.

For server installation, eAdvice uses a built-in module called Database Update
Utility and a set of the SQL installation files (*.saf files).

2.2.2 Before you begin

Before proceeding with the server installation make sure that all eBackoffice
applications are closed on all client machines. This needs to be done to
avoid `freezing the installation process as some database objects can be locked
by eBackoffice applications.

The process of applying SQL scripts onto the SQL Server depends on whether the
server is a new installation or being upgraded. Only ONE of the following
sections is required to be run:

2.2.3 New eAdvice Installation

Run eAdvice from the Start Menu `Start\Programs\Star\eAdvice and login as the
System Administrator ("sa user). eAdvice will automatically detect if eAdvice
database objects need to be installed and will launch the Database Update
screen defaulting to the Primary application SQL installation file. Ensure the
Control and Company database names are correctly selected on the screen.
Click OK button to install your database.

Additional optional configuration SQL files are listed in Appendix 1 and may also
need to be installed. Please review Appendix 1 to see details.

eAdvice Installation Instructions 5
Once the database installation is complete, the eAdvice Registration window may
be displayed (please refer to the `eAdvice Registration section below).

2.2.4 Upgrading Previous eAdvice Installation

Run eAdvice from the Start Menu `Start\Programs\Star\eAdvice and login as the
System Administrator ("sa user). eAdvice will automatically detect if database
needs to be upgraded and will offer an option to launch the Database Update
Utilities program. It is recommended you upgrade your database at this point. If
you choose to update your database later, you will be able to run the Database
Update Utilities manually from the `File-Database Utilities-Database Update.
menu option at any time.

When the Database Update Utility is opened, it will default to the Primary
Installation file (eAdvice.saf). Ensure the Control and Company database names
are correctly selected on the screen. Click the OK button to continue the
installation.

Additional optional configuration SQL files are listed in Appendix 1 and may need
to also be installed. Please review Appendix 1 to see details.

When upgrading to a new version, you will NOT be given a further 30
day trial period. You could be locked out of eAdvice until you obtain new
registration numbers (please refer to the `eAdvice Registration section below).

3. eAdvice Registration

Star eAdvice has a 30 day trial period from the first installation. To register
eAdvice, follow the Registration window instructions, which will be displayed
automatically on start-up if eAdvice has not been registered. Alternatively the
Registration window can be viewed from the Help menu within eAdvice.

During the 30 day trial period you can click the `Register Later button which will
allow you to open and use the application.

If upgrading after 30 days since the initial installation, you will not be able to
access the application until re-registering.

4. eAdvice Configuration and Security

Please refer to the Star eAdvice user-guide for assistance regarding the setup of
the eAdvice application, configuration and security settings. The user-guide
`eaug.pdf is installed into the `Program Files\Star\eAdvice folder by default, or
can be opened from the Help menu within eAdvice.

5. Uninstalling eAdvice

To uninstall eAdvice the following applications need to be uninstalled from the
client machines:

- eAdvice
- Star PDF Writer

APPENDIX 1
SQL SERVER INSTALLATION FILES

The Database Update Utility within eAdvice is used to apply these files to your
database. The Database Update Utility automatically appears when opening
eAdvice if the server installation has not been performed, or you can manually
open it via the `File-Database Utilities-Database Update. menu option.

When the Database Update Utility is opened, it will always default to the Primary

AP/AR Master setup.

You must repeat this step every time you apply eAdvice.saf or
