Network architecture layers Physical links Channel access on links Hybrid multiple access techniques - Issues in the data link layer - Framing Error correction and detection Link-level Flow Control Objective: The Students are exposed to the basic concepts of Layering and its Boundaries. The Data link layer and its functionality are discussed in detail. The link layer flow control, error detection and correction are dealt in detail.

Objective: In this Unit, Circuit and Packet Switching is explained in detail. Different protocols in the Network Layer (IP, ARP, RARP, DHCP, ICMP) are discussed along with different Routing Protocols, Subnetting and Multicasting. Congestion avoidance in the network layer is also discussed in detail.
