1. Participants --- 28 secondary schools; 3 representative per school. Is this correct? Yes.

There are 28 participating schools for the Cebu Mathalino Challenge. Each school has 3 representatives, totaling to 84 participants. And how were they selected by DepED? The participating schools are selected by the DepEd Program for Education Supervisor, Mr. Cipriano Balili, basing it on schools (Private & Public) near the area of Cebu City --- with the purpose of making the contest accessible for both parties (Organizers/Participants) 2. It there two rounds? If yes, why there are two rounds? There are three rounds: EASY Level for 5 points AVERAGE for 10 points + Remaining Time Points (30 seconds) DIFFICULT 20 points + Remaining Time Points (60 seconds)

3. Competition Organizer --- Who are the organizer besides Casio and Business Plus? DepED? or any local math association? The main host of the event is Business Plus Marketing and Ms. Sonia Javier for the over-all Math Competition Plan. DepEd-Cebu City Division for the selection of participants and location of the Teacher Training and of the actual competition. Cebu City National Science High School where the competition was held also assisted us on the contest proper by providing a formal program which gave the competition a smooth flow from Opening Remarks, Intermission Numbers up to the Awarding Ceremony and Closing. 4. Scientific calculator --- Was scientific calculator used in the competition? FX570ES PLUS was the main tool of the competition. It was purely solving and calculating using the said model, banning any piece of paper on students' desks except for their answer sheets. For more info, kindly see attached document for the MECHANICS/RULES of the Competition. 4. Materials --- Who prepared the materials for the competition? Can we get some copy? Ms. Sonia Javier, the quiz master, was the one who prepared all the problems for the competition. Unfortunately, I have no copy of that. COMPETITION RULES
A. TEAM ELIGIBILITY 1. Each participating school shall be allowed to send team with 2 members. The students are supposed to be accompanied by a teacher chaperone. 2. The students should be certified by the principal of the school as a bonafide high school student B. THE COMPETITION AND PROBLEMS 1. The competition shall be 2 hours in duration consisting of 15 problems classified as EASY, AVERAGE and DIFFICULT. 2. All problems are based on mathematical problems aimed at testing the students proficiency in the subject. The focus is on designing the correct and fast solution to the problem 3. Written computations are discouraged. All problems must be solved by using the resources of the calculator 4. Time of execution to the problem is IMPORTANT and shall be part of the scoring system. C. WORKSTATION AND RESOURCES 1. A teams workstation shall consists of: A working table 1 FX570ES PLUS Submission/Answer Sheets Pencil

2. Teams should only use the resources of the workstation. Additional help from the coaches or to anyone is not permitted 3. A marshal shall be assigned to 2 adjacent workstations.

D. CLARIFICATIONS AND CHALLENGES/APPEALS 1. During the competition, teams may ask for clarification of problem descriptions and are encouraged to do so but only from the official judges. Judges responding to questions will not compromise any part of the solution or clarify beyond the written description without providing that same information to all teams as close to simultaneously as possible. F. SCORING AND PLACING A teams score will be the sum of points awarded for their work in the different levels. 1. THE EASY LEVEL 10 points shall be awarded for each solution deemed correct in the easy round. No points are given for incomplete and inaccurate solutions. All answers shall be submitted in a submission sheet within the specified time

2. THE LEVEL The team will play an important role in the scoring system. Bonus points shall be awarded to correct solutions under specified time 10 points shall be awarded for each solution deemed correct in the easy round. No points are given for incomplete and inaccurate solutions. Teams shall be awarded a bonus of 1 point for every minute/second or part of such period remaining when solution is submitted to judges. A problem submitted in the last minute/second judged as correct earns 1 point. The placing of the team is determined by the scores obtained. Should there be any tie in the scores, the placing of the teams is determined by applying each of the criteria in sequence: No. of problems solved The time when the last correct solution was submitted
