The Holy Spirit Series for Kids Lesson 4: Baptism at Pentecost

Big Idea: Baptism of the Holy Spirit Changes our Lives Scripture Reading: Acts 2:1-12
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: Arent all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,[b] 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabswe hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues! 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, What does this mean? Memory Verse: How much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?" (Luke 11:13b) NLT

Message: After Jesus rose from the grave and before he returned to heaven, he left a promise that God would send the Holy Spirit to be our helper. Pentecost was a time when the Holy Spirit came and filled the hearts of the people with his perfect love. In this childrens bible message there was a crowd of people in a large room praying and seeking for the Holy Spirit. I imagine they were making some things right if they had lied, stole something, talked bad about someone, or cheated anyone. If we are treating others unkind and ugly, the Holy Spirit cannot help us like He wants to. He will not fill a heart with His holy presence if we have sin in our hearts. We must confess our sins first to prepare our hearts. We may need to apologize to our parents if we have been hateful to them. We may need to apologize to our sister or brother if we have treated them mean. We may need to apologize to our teacher if we told him or her a lie. The Holy Spirit will come when our hearts are prepared such as confessing and taking care of any known sin in our lives. When the people here had confessed all their sins and taken care of making wrong things rights with others, the Holy Spirit came and baptized them with the fullness of his holy love. Then we read, that some of them spoke in other tongues. The original translation of tongues is languages. Can you imagine going to school one day and your teacher tells you a guest speaker is coming. She then tells you that the speakers English is very limited and they speak another language, so watch the slides carefully so you will learn something. When the speaker arrives and begins to speak, all of the sudden everyone in your room understands every word

they say. You friend who speaks mostly Spanish, and all the rest of the class understands every word. It is amazing! When these people heard the message spoken in other languages, the Arabs, Jews, Romans, and Medes all understand every word that was said. It was amazing! When the Holy Spirit comes filling us with his love things will happen inside us. We will forgive people who have wronged us. We are willing to help the needy more, we are more willing to share with those who have less, and we love everyone no matter who they are what they have done to us. We are not ashamed to talk about Jesus and share the Good News of Salvation. We have the power of the Holy Spirit within us helping us. The baptism at Pentecost was an amazing event. The Holy Spirit wants to give everyone a baptism of this divine love. First, we must confess any sins in our hearts. Second, we must prayer and seek this filling. Third, we must surrender ourselves to God. And finally we must exercise our faith and trust him that he will do it for us. There is a song in another language that I will teach you this morning. It is Spanish and the words in English go like this: English Yes, Jesus loves me Yes, Jesus love me Yes, Jesus loves me The bible tells me so.

Spanish S, Cristo me ama S, Cristo me ama

S, Cristo me ama La Biblia me lo dice.

Questions for Discussion: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. What is Pentecost? What do we need to do to be filled with the Holy Spirit? Will the Holy Spirit fill anyone with his perfect love? Why should we be filled with the Holy Spirit? What does Pentecost mean for us?
